Love an Aveda scent or shampoo, looking for a BPAL that's similar?
eponai replied to Fishwomon's topic in Recommendations
i absolutely adore aveda's shampure. someone bought me their shampure-scented soy wax candle and i can't throw it away, even though i've burnt it all because it smells so good! a note search on the scent produced this: "Shampure: (Aveda Type) This earthy scent captures the aroma of soft rose petals surrounded by jasmine, lavender, ylang ylang, and bergamot on a background of exotic patchouli." which totally baffles me because i cannot stand flowery perfumes or floral scents at all. i like resins and musks. anyone have any bpal suggestions for me? thx! -
Dark myrrh, white sandalwood, amber, hyssop, frankincense, honey, cypress, red musk, cardamom and saffron. i am completely taken aback by this scent, because by the description i was sure i would adore it. but it's not working for me as well as i thought it would for some reason despite the fabulous note list. it's blended very very well, because i can't seem to pick out any individual notes. but where is the cardamom? where is the honey? in the bottle i am like whoa department store cologne! wet on skin i am still like whoa dsc, but maybe there is sandalwood? incense? dry on skin still too perfumey about 2 hours later it has become a lovely sweet musky sandalwood albeit quite faded. so it is much better after its been on my skin for a bit. the length of wear is not too long and the throw is light. i'll be happy with my imp but i probably won't buy a big bottle.

it seems for someone who does tech support, i am an excel idiot. i have pugmom's sheet, and as i was adding my review notes, i did something stupid and now the descriptions don't match up with the scents anymore. al azif now has snake oil's description. what have i done? i could just revert to the saved version, but that would mean losing all the review notes i just made, and i'd liek to avoid that if possible. have i mentioned i hate microsoft? have i mentioned you people are awesome for putting so much work into these? xoxo, ~epona I started with natties, but probably changed it too much to make it easy to update yours (I removed long descriptions and changed column order a little to suit my needs), but you are welcome to take a look to see if it helps. http://ohiopugmom.livejournal.com/ there are some amazing sheets and databases on here!

thanks for the suggestions, cordia, i was thinking along the same lines. she sniffed my first imp pack, which was snake oil, voodoo, velvet, bastet, scherezade, tintagel, and al-azif, and she thought they all smelled the same, kind of like baby powder! i am thinking it was just because her 'bpal nose' is not developed yet and she needed more time than just sniffing them out of the imp. i have a bottle of typhon and i think its heavy and strong enough that she'll like it quite a bit, but i am afraisd if she falls in love with it she won't be able to find any more. she is ok with patchouli as long as its not too "hippie", and from what i have sampled of beth's patchouli notes thus far i don't think she was to worry..... thanks!

i am trying to enable a friend who is into very heavy scents like vetiver, earth, and cardamom. i think she will go nuts over typhon. can anyone recommend anything similar that is currently available? thanks! ~epona

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume
eponai replied to Ina Garten Davita's topic in Recommendations
thanks so much for this! where on earth did you find that note listing? when i did a search most of what i found were pages in russian where you could still purchase the perfume, maybe.... i am very much digging baobhan sith. after reading the notes in all of your descriptions, i think an imp pack is definitley in order. i've had great luck with the arkham oils. i had no idea i liked water lily. ~epona -
Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

ck one = vicomte de valmont if anyone can recommend any bpals that smell like yves sant laurent's limited edition "in love again" that would be grand. i can't find any information on the scent notes on the web (a question the oracle could not answer! egads!) but it smells very citrusy to me, probably grapefruit....maybe some sandalwood in there for the bottom note.... thanks! ~epona -
everybody get down, it's my first ever review! i've been waiting until my nose had a little experience, so my review would have more substance than "i like this!" tiresias the androgyne is definitely a shapeshifting blend. in the bottle - wet and sweet, almost cloying, with a hint of smoke. wet on skin - still sweet with a strong caramel note, but starts to have a bite of darkness in there. sweet tobacco like fruity pipe tobacco comes out, maybe currant flavored pipe tobacco. yum. dry on skin - mellows into a more masculine smokey sandalwood. the patchouli does not stand out too much here, and i think the cinnamon leaf is only adding a spiciness to the sandalwood. i can't speak to the muguet as i do not know what that smells like. i am liking this alot. i definitely feel like i've been hanging out with men drinking brandy and smoking pipes, but the lady of the house is present too, and it wasn't just to bring us tea! ~epona ETA: this is also the longest lasting bpal i have found yet. most fade on me in 2 hours, tiresias was with me still the following morning...
