    Alice's Evidence

ALICE’S EVIDENCE There was a general clapping of hands at this: it was the first really clever thing the King had said that day. ‘That proves his guilt,’ said the Queen. ‘It proves nothing of the sort!’ said Alice. ‘Why, you don’t even know what they’re about!’ ‘Read them,’ said the King. The White Rabbit put on his spectacles. ‘Where shall I begin, please your Majesty?’ he asked. ‘Begin at the beginning,’ the King said gravely, ‘and go on till you come to the end: then stop.’ These were the verses the White Rabbit read:— They told me you had been to her, And mentioned me to him: She gave me a good character, But said I could not swim. He sent them word I had not gone (We know it to be true): If she should push the matter on, What would become of you? I gave her one, they gave him two, You gave us three or more; They all returned from him to you, Though they were mine before. If I or she should chance to be Involved in this affair, He trusts to you to set them free, Exactly as we were. My notion was that you had been (Before she had this fit) An obstacle that came between Him, and ourselves, and it, Don\'t let him know she liked them best, For this must ever be A secret, kept from all the rest, Between yourself and me. ‘That’s the most important piece of evidence we’ve heard yet,’ said the King, rubbing his hands; ‘so now let the jury—’ ‘If any one of them can explain it,’ said Alice, (she had grown so large in the last few minutes that she wasn’t a bit afraid of interrupting him,) ‘I’ll give him sixpence. I don’t believe there’s an atom of meaning in it.’ The jury all wrote down on their slates, ‘She doesn’t believe there’s an atom of meaning in it,’ but none of them attempted to explain the paper. ‘If there’s no meaning in it,’ said the King, ‘that saves a world of trouble, you know, as we needn’t try to find any…’ Containing nary a neutron of meaning: rum-quince-cassis with prune and a bit of black ginger. Mmmmm!! In the bottle, I smell spices and dark purple fruits. Once applied, it\'s ginger and spicy, sugary plums. Not like, gross prunes. These are yummy super sugary ripe plums! On the drydown, the prunes calm down a bit, leaving the spices on top, a bit of sweet ginger in the middle, and yummy purple fruit on the bottom poking around the edges. The overall effect is so lovely! This is simply gorgeous!! I am so glad I was able to pick up a bottle at Convergence!

    Frederic

For some ridiculous reason, to which, however, I’ve no desire to be disloyal, Some person in authority, I don’t know who, very likely the Astronomer Royal, Has decided that, although for such a beastly month as February, twenty-eight days as a rule are plenty, One year in every four his days shall be reckoned as nine and twenty. Through some singular coincidence – I shouldn’t be surprised if it were owing to the agency of an ill-natured fairy – You are the victim of this clumsy arrangement, having been born in leap-year, on the twenty-ninth of February; And so, by a simple arithmetical process, you’ll easily discover, That though you’ve lived twenty-one years, yet, if we go by birthdays, you’re only five and a little bit over! Alas, poor Frederic the Leapling! -- bound to the merry Pirates of Penzance until his twenty-first birthday. As his birthday comes around only every four years, so does his scent! Victorian whimsy and piratical romance: a reluctant seaman’s chypre sloshed with a mix of bay rum, patchouli, amber musk, dark woods, tea rose, and red currant. Beth must lurve me cause I seem to get my bottles before everyone else...or mebbe it's because I'm a hop skip and a jump away from the lab... Anyway.. on to the review!!! Though I usually am "eh" about boozy scents.. this one has me sniffin' away!! I smell like a pirate who wants to fit in but tends to care for himself by bathing, rather than say... the traditional bum pirate who would think himself manly by not bathing!! *Note.. my husband is snoring in my ear because he thinks he's manly. (I am reviewing in bed on my laptop)* Anyway... on we go!! I LOVE THIS!! I get a very slightly woodsy rum, and a bit of creamy amber rounding this baby out, with the soft sweetness of tea rose wafting underneath. Was Frederic a bit of a dandy trying to prove his manlyness?? cause that's what I get. This totally makes sense! An actor!! He's a dandy posing as a pirate... this is great. I can see a clean cut gentleman behind the scenes dusting dirt on himself to become a piratical man's man.. but when up close... he's not quite the pirate. I bet this is what Johnny Depp smells like!! :::droool:::: But it's not too manly mind you.. so a gal can wear this just as well as a hunky pirate.

    The Clod and the Pebble

THE CLOD AND THE PEBBLE William Blake Love seeketh not Itself to please, Nor for itself hath any care; But for another gives its ease, And builds a Heaven in Hells despair. So sang a little Clod of Clay, Trodden with the cattle's feet; But a Pebble of the brook, Warbled out these metres meet. Love seeketh only Self to please, To bind another to Its delight: Joys in anothers loss of ease, And builds a Hell in Heavens despite. Rose otto, clove, patchouli, Indian sandalwood, nutmeg, and cedar. In the bottle I get a mish mosh of many different notes, but the only note that is distinguishable is cedar. Once applied, the cedar is prominent, but I know from other blends that it will eventually take a back seat... and it does! Now it's Rose and sandalwood with a touch of cedar, and the spiciness of nutmeg. I wish that the clove would make its presence known, I mean... its clove!! Cloves usually overpower all! This is a very gender neutral scent. It's nice and I'd give it a 3 out of 5

    Shadow Self

I am This is beautiful in all the right ways. All of the notes meld beautifully together to create a soft, warm, and sweetly fresh scent. Not one note stands out on its own, instead it's created it's own lovely blend. The green tea and lavender play together to create something unique. The resin notes stay put and don't interrupt any other notes at play. Myrrh, green tea and frankincense can usually turn nasty on me, and in this one - I can't pull them apart at all. Hoard worthy, for sure!

    The Witch Queen

Wild plum, red musk, tuberose, calla lily, heliotrope, pimento, ylang ylang and beeswax beneath a dark haze of sinister purple-hued incense smoke. First sniff: Actually it's pretty soft and light, but at the same time deep and full. I smell the florals straight away. I took another sniff and yep, deep down you can get the incensey smokey smell, no wild plum yet Wet: It's still really soft and subtle, but still really deep. There's a lot going on with the scent but I can't tell the scents apart. It's a really dark and warm floral. Cmon plummyness don't be shy come out to me pleaaassseee!! dryin down now: Ok the drama queen floral is taking her bow and leaving the scene.. Good thing too cause I was getting scared for a moment. It's starting to morph and become a sweeter softer floral. It seems very round and full still, but at the same time it isn't super strong. Oh wait the drama floral is back. 15 minutes later: hmmm.. it's has the same fullness of Dark Delicacies but where Dark Delicacies is sweet, Witch Queen is floral. Much later: I like witch queen, but It's a bit on the floral side. I am so dissapointed because i absolutly love plum, but sadly all i could smell was a rosey musky floral with a deep incense undertone. It's very deep and beautiful and I'll give her another chance before I decide to keep or pass. 2 months later : I gave Witch Queen another go - and either my bottle has aged just a dab, or maybe my chemistry likes to adjust to seasons, but i absolutly LOVE Witch Queen now. I can't get enough of her. Super Dark and pretty floral and I totally smell the Plum (which plum can be a bit floral on my skin, which i learned by applying a SN plum. Doy on me )
  7. No scent description available. First of all, thank you lab for your generosity! This was an amazing gift for us all. In the bottle: Light and fruity, almost like plum Once applied: amazing. I can smell spices, red juicy fruits, and underneath those notes lies something just a little earthy. I can't pinpoint the earthy note. It's beautiful though. Could be frankincense or maybe (as somebody else has noted) patchouli, or even just a musk. It's not too apparent though. It's just enough to add an element of warmth and depth. On drydown: I can smell a bit of fir trees popping through now! As it dries down, the resiny note pops out more along with the fir trees. Oh man guys, this is totally sexy... Overall, this is freaking amazing!!! Thank you again Lab!! You guys rock!

    Sugar Moon 2008

SUGAR MOON No way to see him on this moonless night --- I lie awake longing, burning, breasts racing fire, heart in flames. Sugar cane, blue musk, mahogany, black orchid, black currant, violet, blackberry leaf, teak, strawberry, and dusky rose. Smut??? Why do I smell sugar smut? Interesting. In the bottle It really does smell boozy. I came back and re-read the description because I could've sworn that I didn't see any booze notes in here. On my skin, it's a sugar whiskey scent. That must be the fruity strawberry playing with the mahogany teak and florals with sugar sweetening it up. Isn't that the components in makin' booze anyway? It really matches with the swarthy bottle art. Sexy and innocent. The sharp florals play perfectly with the woody tones. Warm and cool. This is a total sex kitten scent.

    Habu

There's something that goes JUST RIGHT in this in which the snake oil masks the dry woody sharpness that I completely expected. I hate woods, but this is magnificent! I won't need a whole bottle, but I will totally cherish and sniff Habu often. Looking at other reviewers, I too got fruit - specifically apples. So to my nose this is snake oil, apple, and a woody undertone that isn't OMGFRESHCUTTREE. Love!

    [Redacted] Dragon

Oh man, vetiver and I hate each other with a passion, but when I opened up this - I smell my arch nemesisis, but I am also reminded of entering a gem shop in the middle of the desert ran by a hippie with dream catchers everywhere. Strannnnnnnnnnnge scent association from this one.

    Potato Salad!

If you knit/crochet, what sizes of needles do you need? Nay I say! nay!! What styles of artwork do you like? I like anything that is odd and pretty in it's own way. My walls do not have anything from major stores on them. Everything is second hand, and internet found. And my walls are BRIMMING with art. I have Golden cats, mid-century modern prints, art deco shadow pictures (super cute), pressed flowers, a shaggy dog made out of teeny tiny glass beads (circa 1969 or so - it's pure class), a pair of original Eugène Delacroix black and white (one has been hand colored) photographs taken in the French Quarter, and in the center stage is my original midcentury oil panting of flowers in a brass water jug painted in the late 60's by Wes Andrews. I got it for $6 at Goodwill! They had NO IDEA what they had!! If you cook, would you be interested in-hand made spice mixes/rubs? heck to the yes! Just a lil bit of relish

Do you have any symbols or totems that are meaningful to you? Bats! They're so neat. When you are having a really rough day, what do you like to do/have to make it a little brighter? Drink a bottle of wine and watch Jane Eyre or Pride and Prejudice. Or Doctor Who, or True Blood, or Buffy, or Star Trek TNG. The list goes on and on and on. Would you like if your witch sent a regional pop/soda? If so, what type (Root beer, creme soda, cola, citrus-flavored, chocolate-flavored, etc...)? Anything sugar free really. I'm not so much of a soda drinker (NOTICE THAT I SAID SODA! I'm sure you Midwesterners are all like "Booo Hisss, it's called pop!" - HAHAHAHHAHA SODA SODA SODA) Also, I'm sure it doesn't fail to notice that I drink sugar free drinks, and whole bottles of sugar riddled wine. Don't careeeeeeeeee.

    Catching up on the mayo

Is there a Quote that resonates with you, or that you particularly like a lot. Would this be something you would like artwork made of for your walls or a shirt/bag/scarf? I've never been a quote-sy type of person, but I do like "Allons-y!" Also, STARBUCKS, Yay or Nay? Anything you particularly like? I usually get a regular cup of coffee and add shots of sugar free vanilla. Is there someone on the forums (within SW or not) who knows you really well and might be able to help with stalking? I'm meh. Sub-par. Not pro, but I can get around. Spoonfudge? Say whaaaaa? I just looked that up...

    10 songs

Question: Put your mp3 player/online music/itunes/etc on random and list the next 10 songs here: 1. Onuinu - Mirror Gazer 2. Big Black Delta - Put the Gun on the Floor 3. Panama - It's not over 4. iamamiwhoami - Sever (GREAT SONG!) 5. Holy Ghost! - Wait and See 6. Big Black Delta - Ifuckingloveyou (what a treat! two BBD songs!) 7. The New Division - Shallow Play 8. Tesla Boy - Electric Lady 9. Tokimonsta - Go With It 10. Telefon Tel Aviv - Lengthening Shadows (This song is AMAZING!) Pretty much my playlist is a bunch of experimental electronic music. I mostly listen while working, and this genre works the best to help me focus and stay on track. I recently lost all of my downloaded music after my (other) laptop committed suicide at 6 months old, so at this time it really is just a bunch of electronic music.

    Mustard!

Do you have any problems with swearing or particularly off-color humor? My personality is made up of these things. Sometimes I think that I go too far. I have to check myself sometimes because I'm pretty sure that if somebody didn't know me, they would consider me offensive. To those who know me, they know that I am very kind and seek justice in this world, and my personality is made up of 1 liners and hyperbole. What would you like from the most recent BPAL update? What are you planning on buying for yourself and what would you like to try? I think that I am safe from this update, nothing stands out as something that I need or must have. I am however stalking the Trading Post for some new atmosphere sprays. I really want a bottle of House Of Unquenchable Fire. I'm trying to sit on my hands, but I dunno if I can make it. Opinions on table top games, from cards and board games, to dice and rpgs. What do you like? I've never really played any table top RPG games. I did play D&D once at a friends house when I was a teenager, and I would watch a couple of my other friends play Magic The Gathering, but I never seemed to want to join in. I did RPG online back in the beginning of the internets days. Good ol' AOL 3.5. I played for YEARS! I was a part of this RPG called Kingdom of Cavalyn. It was pretty rad. The great thing about chat rooms is that you could actually throw dice. The chat room would calculate a specific number based on how many sides your dice had. The queen would grant you your dice number as you grew within the ranks and everybody could see who was who based on their profile. I really miss playing that game. What style is your sense of humour? I'm kind of like a Zooey Deschanel, but not too much of a manic pixie. I swear! Is there anything from Australia you would like? Regional spices/flavoring blends/sauces? YES! And Tim Tams please. Gimme the Tams!! Gift cards/vouchers - yay or nay? If you like them - which stores would you like one for? They're cool! Lets see... gift cards that I'd like...ummmm... where do I shop? I don't know myself. OH! Etsy is a great place! I shop there lots. Or Amazon. Does Etsy even have gift cards? Whatever. Ebay then. How big is too big...for something to hang on your walls? If I'm painting you a pretty picture, are there maximum dimensions that you have/prefer? Paint away sweet witch. Paint away. I have lots of paintings from the mother in law, and the grandmother in law, nothing ginormous though. I have minimal room left on my walls. what is your favourite object, that you own, ignoring sentimental reasons for attachment? So I guess something you find beautiful, or fun, or incredibly useful. First of all, I LOVE how you spell favourite. It's so proper. Second of all I shall now answer your question. I have this old telephone stand in my room. It doesn't fit in at all, and it's hidden in a corner (since there's absolutely no place to put it - plus it's been banged up to all shit). The thing is that it belonged to my dad. I don't have much of anything that once belonged to my father. He passed away 29 years ago when he was 29. When he died, his selfish family took everything, and left us nothing. So I have this old telephone stand that I keep around. It's neat. I get to see it every day and it reminds me that there was once this man in the world that I shared my genes with. I was just a little baby when he passed away, so I don't remember him at all.

    Sqirded ketchup!

Bags: Love them! I'm looking for a holster type of purse now. I have bags like craaaaazy stuffed everywhere. I could use some re-usable shopping bags. I've been trying to convince the husbeast to pick up a couple at TJ's (they have the cutest bags!) and he's all blah blah blah blah money blah blah blah. EYEROLL + 1/2! Comfort Food: Red wine Would you like anything from an European country? Any particular food or goodies, magazines, books, whatever would be available to your witch in his/her country? Chocolate or other candy would be most welcome! Some local favorites too. I love local treaures =) What fandoms do you belong to? Buffy; NMBC; Bollywood Buffy, Firefly, Star Trek, Doctor Who! What cheers you up? Music and wine! Who or where would you most want to haunt? Who would you least want to be haunted by? I'd like to haunt Disneyland. Fun all the time! I wouldn't want to be haunted by Adolf Hitler though. What question do you hate to answer? I hate it when people ask me why I don't have kids. What is the best compliment you have/could receive? When I was younger, I was experimenting on putting makeup on my then boyfriend (for theater), and had been so focused that I didn't realize that he was watching me. He said "God, you are so pretty" and I looked at him and he had this look of awe on his face. It stuck with me forever. What colors/style is your kitchen decor? And do you entertain in your home? Red white and black with a giant Ralph Steadman picture depicting Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas. Are your ears pierced? I have 3 in each ear, though I use only two these days. I can only wear silver or gold though. Do you like stuffies/stuffed animals/art doll type thingies? If so, any particular type you'd love to get? Hmm.. not really. They're cute, but I don't have any where to put them, so I stuff them away or donate them =( Are there wee little ones in your home that will get jealous and are just too young to understand why you won't share the love, who maybe need a touch of Witchee love all their own, to distract them while you hide all your lovelies?!? Nope, no kiddies around here. I Do you like tarot cards, pendulums and rune stones etc? If so, what type? I have a couple decks that I've never used or learned. They were gifts, and they are beautiful. I just never had the time to learn how to read them.
  19. heathercaley

I like ketchup on my ketchup!

How do you feel about traditional picnics (namely the intimate table for two variety)? Old-fashioned basket or something more utilitarian (cooler/insulated bag)? Love picnics. One time, I went on a picnic at Los Alisos park in San Luis Obispo and we were hiking forever trying to find a place to stop and eat. Finally we decided to pop a squat on a bridge and proceeded to eat delicious gourmet sammiches and drink champagne straight from the bottle because we forgot to buy glasses. After we finished, we walked another 100 yards or so, saw some really fresh bear/mountain lion poop (unsure which - could've been hooman for all I know) and we decided to hightail it out of there. That shit was fresh and steaming. Aint nobody got time for that! If you were put in a room with 100 random other people the same age and sex as you, from your country, in what way do you think you would be different from the average? As somebody else has said, I am childless and in my 30's which is rare. I also don't find pleasure in most things that other women seem to enjoy? I can't put my finger on it really, it's just plain obvious when you see me with other ladies. I am definitely different. It's not that hard to be different in Orange County though, especially when you head into Central and South Orange County. It's Stepford country! You can't stop there! The women wear the same clothes and drive the same car. It's enough to give a person the heebs. What would you like from Japan: I'd love a Japanese fan! Or KitKats. I see those KitKats and I wants them too! Nail Polish: OBSESSIVE! I Love nail polish, especially sparkly kind. I have SO many red polishes, but am still on the hunt for the perfect bright red that is not neon. I also am on the hunt for "Ruby Slippers" by Opi *hint hint - nudge nudge* Soap: I don't use bar soaps =( sowwy. Sample size things: I sometimes use samples, but rarely. They're like imps and encourage hoarding. I use it once and stash it away and before I know it, the samples have made little sample babies that puke all over my sample holder bag and then they try to escape and it's a mess, oh the mess. I step on one and it's guts get all over and I break down and cry and ask the sample gods WHY??? WHY?? It had to go before it's full sized brethren could incorporate it into itself like some crazed alien species that eats it's own but has multiple personalities from all of the samples that it's eaten. It's SICK and I will not tolerate this in my bathroom!!! Vidya Games: no, I do have a Wii, but only play Mario games Nighttime routine: get drunk and watch Shows. It's a classy drunk though (wine). Favorite shade of blue: sapphire blue Kitchen gizmos: I have one of them new fangled toaster ovens. Boy can it toast!

    ohhhhh heyyyy there you guys!

Doctor Who? Si! How much do you like lipbalm? Flavored or unflavored? I like the kind that make my lips feel soothed and minty fresh Do you like and wear lipgloss? If yes, what colours? Sort of. I like to layer it on top of my lip stain. I usually go for a rusty red color For those of you whose wishlists contain only BPALs, are there any other perfume companies you like or would like to try out? Other companies? I like Arcana as well. Your feelings on Adagio teas: If you've never had anything from them, would you be open to trying them? If you HAVE had them and like them, name some favorites blends. And if you had them and dislike them, can you name a few *other* tea companies you're into? I'm open to trying them. I have a shit ton of tea's hanging around my tea cabinet (it's stuffed!) so samples are great, but huge bags of loose leaf would sit and sit and sit and sit. What about coffee? I drink coffee all day long... all. day. long. Who is your favourite female of all time? Historical, literary, ANYTHING, and why? I have had a girl crush on Drew Barrymore since I was a wee teen If you were a Disney princess you would be?: I'm definitely Belle-ish - my nose is always in a book. <~ snipe. Me too. Plus I am not all like She-Ra or some stuff like that. I run away from fights. Seashell from Florida? eh? what's that? Craft projects? ANTI-CRAFT!@!!@#! If you could have one rare BPAL, what would you choose? Cabaret Goth. Are you kinky? Why yes I am. I have a Lelo and I know how to use it. > Do you enjoy scented candles? Certain sizes that you like? What kind of scents or brands? I have a ton of candles. I like witches brew anything (most brands have a similar scent and it seems to be spot on). Thoughts about South Africa? Have you been here, would you like to go? Would you like to receive anything South African? A co-worker of mine is from South Africa, and can I say OMG cutest accent in the world. She's super sweet too. I'd love to visit. Sock Dreams? I like socks!! regular length though - nothing fancy. My calves are rather cow like.

    Velvet Nudie

I too only get OMGFLOWERS. It's white musk and flowers and nothing else. Not bad, but not my type.

    Goblin

From an imp that's at least 2 if not 3 years old: Coconut and sweet patchouli - oh my!!! As it dries down, the patchouli starts to really dominate. This is a deep and rooty patchouli. Though aged, there's still a little bit of fang in it's bite. Once dry, I'm left picturing a goblin on vacation in Goblin Paradise. Sipping vanilla coconut smoothies and watching the sun set over a simmering sea of black oil while his little demon offspring fight over a raging octopus plucked from his oily rock cave.

    Yerevan

I found this old imp hiding out in one of my boxes, all forgotten about. Wet, I get a pale fruity orchid, but almost immediately it turns to rose. I amp rose like nothing else, but that's ok as I like it. I just wish that sometimes the rose notes would lay off and let me smell the other pretty notes that are hiding. A few minutes later and I can almost smell some fruit - but the rose still dominates. It seems to morph between rose and fruity rose over and over again. 10 minutes later and the rose has hidden itself allowing a bit of plum (or something fruity) and orchid to come out and play. Very springtime and quite lovely but fades fast.
  24. heathercaley

    Witchblade

If I hadn't read the notes on this, I would have known right off - yep. Red musk. My imp is aged about 3 years, so the red musk is beautiful and all red muskyish. The amber is very quiet, but lending a grounding effect, keeping the red musk from becoming too manly. Once it starts to dry down, the red musk quiets down even more and the amber and frankincense start to emerge, but just barely. This is still nearly a single note red musk. The metal may be acting as a red musk amplifier as the sharpness of the red musk seems to come and go, other than that, I am not "feeling" any metal. Overall, very lovely.

    The Velvets

I have sniffed a lot of sniffs, and for the first time ever, I understand what pencil shavings smell like. It's nice pencil shavings though. Top of the sniff - pencil shavings, underneath - very pretty smokey flowers. I blame the sandalwood. ::shakes fist at the sandalwood:: Edit 3 hours later: Pencil shavings are gone, now I smell just the beautiful smokey/incensy floral that sticks close to my skin. I will test with a bit more juice to see if once I bypass the pencil shaving phase if there could be more throw.
