This has patchouli in it, which is one of my dreaded notes, but it doesn't come off too much like "Hello, I'm a head shop", so that's good. It has a strange resiny quality to it on my skin, and an odd musky sweetness. It's like if I were to sweat cinnamon. It smells very much of body heat. I don't mean either of those in a bad way. Also, I got that same maraschino cherry thing that others have mentioned, which makes me think of "Blood" (appropriately enough...) but I hated Blood, and I'm ok with this. Just ok. It doesn't really grab me right now. I'll try wearing it some day this week and see how it goes for a full day (the real test of any scent!) but for now, I don't think it's going to be one of my keepers.

This oil is very resiny and somber on me. I assume the resin is from the labdanum. There's a hint of sweetness-- I think from the tonka. There's also a touch of flowers that smell like a funeral bouquet to me. I like it, but it doesn't suit my mood just now. I'll keep my imp for the time being, but probably won't be buying a big bottle.

OH MY GOD, I LOVE THIS! When I first smelled it in the imp, I had a strange reaction: I instantly thought "Champagne!" I think it reminds me of the time I made rose syrup and we used it so make champagne cocktails (delicious thing to do with your roses, by the way). I put it on and spent all day smelling my wrists. It's bright, playful, and I find it very flirty. It's sweet but fresh and alive. By the end of the day, the violet became the more dominant note, and it gave it a very rich tone. After a long day, it had richened to an almost chocolate-y smell. Amazing! I got this in a big surprise imp pack from TarotbyDiana, and I loved this one so much that I almost don't want to test out any of the others. Marie is what I want to smell like all the time! Needless to say, this is slated to be one of my first big bottles.

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume
PersephonesChild replied to Ina Garten Davita's topic in Recommendations
I'm pretty new myself, but I think you might like Belle Epoque (I love it!) It's got that creamy sandalwood thing AND lilies. -
The earth and moss scents are dead on. It reminds me of playing the woods when I was little. I like the slight sweetness of the roses. In general, there's a feel of something decaying-- the moss, the earth, the flowers themselves are spent and dried. Definitely suitably for an Ars Moriendi mix. My boyfriend has a moderate obsession with zombies. I'm looking forward to seeing how he likes this perfume!

My immediate thought upon opening this imp was, "Oh my god, I'm in a bakery!" The scent of cake is amazing... crispy flaky sweetness. On my skin it became the incredibly delicious scent of pie, which amazingly enough makes me feel not hungry but satiated! I love it! Mmm! Also, I've been reading a lot about the elusive and exclusive Crumpet Rebellion. I imagine it smells a whole lot like this.

Ok, so I'm very very new to BPAL. In my first order, I had an imp of Baobhan Sith and one of Cheshire Cat, both of which thrilled me in the bottle and wet on my skin... and then vanished. I loved the grapefruit scent, but it seems to be the problem. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there something I can used to approximate this scent that maybe won't vanish so quickly?

BPAL Fruit Blends - the many variations

No one's said Frumious Bandersnatch? It's pure spiced plum on me. Very spicy-- the fruit backs down a little on the drydown, but it's still very present. -
Chaos Theory II : The Butterfly Effect
PersephonesChild replied to harlequin's topic in Limited Editions
Ok, I have Chaos Theory CXXVII (127) In the bottle, I was struck by citrus, and then by my color-association for the scent-- definitely green, a dark, wet green, like a wet tropical forest. I think there's a hint of mint, and something else cool and green. On me, I think the citrus is definitely lemon, and I'm sensing some eucalyptus, as well as something a little bit spicy. I'm thinking sage, it reminds me of western sage brush. And a very light and delicate scent at the bottom... Mm. I love citrus, I love sage, this is lovely. It's such an interesting scent, and a very strong one! It makes my mouth water, but I'm not sure what for. I'm very new to BPAL, so I don't have a lot to compare it to. Of the other scents I've tried, it's most like Tenochtitlan, but much lusher, much damper. I think the common thread is the sage. It reminds me of a few places I know in Utah where the sage brush mixes in with wild mint, an interesting and evocative scent combination, but usually those two scents smell very disparate. I think the citrus kind of fills in the gaps, and the eucalyptus is part of the sense of wetness it has. I consider this a good gamble. I'll be happy to have this scent, although I'm not sure if it's the perfect one for me. ETA: What was I thinking? I smell this now, and all I can think of is aloe! Aloe, and maybe some lily... When I wear it, I get the sense of a light, waxy flower blooming on me. It starts out green and sappy, and becomes warmer as the flower opens, with a slightly spicy hint of pollen. It continues to bloom until it becomes something very unappealing on me after about two hours. I still smell the aloe, but it begins to have a very medicinal tone to it, which I don't like. But Citrus? Sage? I don't know what I was thinking. -
The greatest of all Aztec cities, and capital of their empire. Amber, hyssop, coriander, epazote, Mexican sage, prickly pear and Mexican tulip poppy. This imp was a freebie from Beth. In the vial, I sensed a sort of fruitiness that I couldn't quite place. In fact, a whole lot of scents I couldn't place, but very lush... After a few minutes on, I start to smell the sage-- sage brush! Of course! I live half my life in Utah, so it smells like home! The amber adds a little richness, and a vague bitterness from the hyssop. Now, maybe a little bit floral from the Mexican tulip poppy. Ooh, it's turning kind of musky on me now... But with a fresh scent behind it that I can pull into my nostrils... Hmm, for something I'd barely glanced at when I saw the description, I quite like it.

As soon as I opened the vial, I remembered why I'd picked this scent, although the name had meant nothing to me. The grapefruit scent was perfect, a full and wonderful citrus. I smelled nothing but grapefruit in the vial, and maybe a little extra sweetness. Wet on my skin, the grapefruit still held court, with the apple blossom creating a creamy floral smell underneath. Now that I've had it on for ten minutes or so, the apple blossom is most prominent, the grapefruit has blended into the other scents. A slight spiciness hints at the white tea and ginger. Oh, but this is wonderful! This may be my perfect scent! Grrr, but it faded so quickly! Maybe an hour and a half later, I smelled nothing at all. Sad.

I got this by accident instead of Blood Countess. At first I tried to be optimistic, but... Well, in the vial it screams CHERRY like nobody's business, and I mean thick, syrupy, fake cherry. On me, the cherry backs down a little bit and I can actually smell the clove, as well as, at this point, something a little musky, that reminds me of the more pleasant side of sweat and body odor, maybe the way one's hair smells at the end of a hot day. That said, the fake cherry is still driving me crazy. The longer it dries, the more I like it, but that might as well be phrased, "The longer it dries, the less I hate it." All the scents just seem kind of disconnected to me-- like a musky scent with a whole bunch of cherry dropped in by accident. Not at all for me.

This is the first BPAL item I've tried. Mmm... In the vial, I smell sandalwood, which is wonderful. I had a girlfriend once who used to put a sandalwood spray in her hair-- it smelled lovely. I immediately thought of her. Wet on me, the sandalwood is strengthened and sweetened by the vanilla, which comes out very prominently. I think the opium also adds to it... It dries down very lightly. I'm so happy to not have been over-whelmed by floral! Dry, I smell a lot of vanilla- very sweet, with a thicker, more syrupy and sensual note, which I attribute to the sandalwood/opium. Overall, I find it smells very white/gold and innocent-- it reminds me of lacy, maybe tulle. I'd like to wear lace gloves while I have it on! On a side note... I've never been much of a perfume person, but the BPAL descriptions enchanted me, and on a whim, I ordered a bunch. Then, before they arrived, an aunt of mine gave me some kind of standard perfume which I absolutely hated. It made me so nervous that I just didn't like perfume in general, and that I wouldn't like my BPAL orders either. This is the first scent I've tried, and I'm so relieved! Even though it's one of the more conventional scents that I ordered, I like it so much better than practically any other kind of perfume I've come in contact with before. This appears to have been a good gamble!
