    Obatala

In the vial this smells like a very milky coconut. On my skin this is a sweet coconut milk (heavy on the milk part)...it's almost cakey to me with a sun tan lotion feel. As this dries I'm getting more of a blamy feel to this...I think that may be the shea butter. It's creamy feeling. This sort of reminds me of Milk Moon sitting on a beach watching the waves crash against the shore. This dries into a warm, sun-kissed cocnut scent on my skin. I think Obatala will be good for layering to bring out the coconut notes in other blends. I like this a lot. It's fun, not serious and just makes me feel sun-kissed. A perfect summer perfume!

    Red Rose

In the bottle: Clllloooovvveeeee! A smoky sweet clove, not as dry as the clove in Clemence but not like a baking pie clove either. It's somewhere in the middle. Just perfect. Wet: Rose and clove. Spicy rose! I already like this a lot more than White Rose. I'm not detecting any of the other notes, this is just sweet clove and rose. Dry: This softens up quite a bit as it dries. The clove mellows out as the rose blossoms even further, taking center stage...but it's still not screaming ROSE on my skin. Underneath it all there's a nice, spicy, musky base. It's just beautiful. Overall: This is a spicy, incense rose. The rose note is a lot stronger in this one than White Rose (which is softer, prettier and more femenine scent). I just love this. The Unity set sounds like it would be a floral lovers set but, in fact this was made for resin, spice and incense lovers. I am SO glad I snagged these. Love love love Another fine example of Beths superior perfuming talents.

    White Rose

I was very lucky to snag the Unity set from a lovely forum member. In the bottle: Very similar to Antique Lace...just not as musky (much nicer actually). Wet: Orris at first and very quickly after I smell beautiful vanilla mixed with just the faintest bit of rose and coconut. Maybe my nose is playing tricks on me but I think I may smell amber in this. Wow, gorgeous. I can't stop sniffing my hand. This is like a smoky, vanilla rose incense. Dry: This hasn't changed much, all of the notes sort of just settle into my skin and meld together creating a beautiful, resinous vanilla with just a hint of rose. There's the slightest bit of powderyness which makes me think amber MIGHT be in this but...that could also be the orris. Overall: LOVE! This isn't white rose, but more of an interpretation...and a beautiful one. Something about this reminds me of MB: Underpants and Antique Lace with just a drop of rose. I will cherish my bottle.

    Cathouse Atmosphere Spray

I received this from a wonderful forumite in a recent swap. Cathouse is honeyed, vanilla drenched magnolia and jasmine blooms to me. This is a VERY sweet floral. Jasmine is that ONE note that violently disagrees with my skin (no worries, I didn't put this on my skin) but I am LOVING the way this smells in my apartment. It was like a light bulb moment when I started spritzing this about "Jasmine...stinky old lady diaper panties jasmine...smells nice...in the air...?! Woah!" I took a nap earlier on a pillow that was sprayed with a bit of Cathouse and just dozed off happily sniffing the air around me. I am pleasantly surprised by this. I'm going to have to buy a larger bottle, I already killed the sample I just love love love the BPTP atmosphere sprays. They're worth the price tag.

How do you apply your BPAL oils?

I had no idea about this, and I've been on here for about two years! Anyway, I usually just press it against my wrist or thumb, then flip over. I just found out recently as well Those glass wand caps sure are handy little things.

How do you apply your BPAL oils?

The Lab sells caps with glass wand applicators on them if you find applying from the bottle to be a bit difficult and messy. You can purchase them here, http://blackphoenixalchemylab.com/sample.html (scroll all the way to the bottom) White Rabbit is one of my favorites! Great choice!

    Job Interview Recommendations

Thank you for posting that link! That's actually really helpful for me. I'm currently looking for a new job. I think White Rabbit will work well for me. As for non-BPAL, I might wear Laila

    Samhainophobia

2007 version The vetiver in this is anything but menacing...it is pure love one of the prettiest vetiver scents I have ever sniffed. As this dries I'm smelling more balsam and a sharp, bright oakmoss. The vetiver paired with the balsam is creating that old book sort of smell on my skin (which vetiver and khus often do for me). Samhainophobia vaugely reminds me of Incantation (just without the lemon notes). I haven't sniffed this in over a year now and it has aged beautifully. I think this just may be a new favorite for me. I'm sad I never picked up the 2006 version of this...but that was back when I was still at odds with what has become my favorite note, vetiver. <3 My husband will also want to wear this but I'm not sharing!

    Fearful Pleasure

Fearful Pleasure is spiced apple cider with just a touch of smoke. This reminds me a lot of L'Autunno (but without fresh leafy notes). The more it dries into my skin, the spicier (and better!) it gets. Fearful Pleasure would probably make a better room scent than a perfume, but I'm not going to have any problem dabbing some of this into my Monas locket this fall. I can see this as becoming one of those Holy Grail scents if it doesn't make a second visit this autumn (which I really hope it does). BPTP should also make a room spray out of this! It's just so delicious and conforting..I want everything I own to smell like Fearful Pleasure.

    Bonfire Night

Woodsmoke and caramel! The beer note scared me at first but this is actually really yummy smelling...not boozy or bitter at all. When this dries it's almost like a single caramel note on my skin. I'm glad I took a risk and purchased a bottle of this, it sure is great for layering!

    Gunpowder

In the bottle this smells like fresh carrots and molasses! Truly unique! On my skin this is warm, comforting maple and brown sugar oatmeal with carrots. There's a dry, woody note in there that I'm assuming is the hay. I'm not getting much apple out of this. Gunpowder is predominantly carrots and molasses on me...I can't stop sniffing my hand. Another fine example of Beths talent and creativity. What perfumer would think to use carrot...and make it WORK?! Only Beth. This one is lovely. I will cherish my bottle

    The Goblin Rider

I'm reviewing a bottle that is nearly empty. Needless to say, this is a household favorite The Goblin Rider is a wonderfuly masculine smelling cedar incense on me. When I first apply this to my skin I get a huge, fresh burst of pine needles. As it settles in, the pine softens up and is replaced by a wondefully woody cedar note. Dancing thrugh all of this is the Labs perfect incense note (the one from All Souls and Midnight Mass). Note only does this smell fantastic, but the art on the bottle is abolutely gorgeous. I really hope the Sleepy Hollow scents make it for 'round 2 this year. There are back-ups I need to purchase!

    Amber Bottles vs Other Colors

I have to say, I really miss the cobalt blue bottles. I know amber is supposed to protect the oils from light but, the cobalt blue was just so pretty

Scents that give the "Black" color vibe

I agree with Dymphna, Schwarzer Mond is a good choice Some others would be Aeronwen, Clemence, All Night Long, or Carceri d'Invenzione (which has always seemed like an expensive, dress-up for an evening event type of scent to me)

    Pumpkin V (2007)

Pumpkin Queens twin! This is a warm, buttery pumpkin with just a teeny bit of ginger and mulling spices. Pumpkin V is the only one of the 2007 Patches I was able to purchase (and yes I'm just reviewing it now! ). I'm really glad I decided to pick up a bottle Dry on my skin I think I actually like this better than Pumpkin Queen. PQ has more ginger while this one has more buttery pumpkin. I REALLY want to eat my arm right now. This is such a glorious autumn scent. Yummy! The Labs pumpkin note was something I didn't initally like too much but after digging out some of my older pumpkin scents I've fallen in love with their wonderful pumpkiny goodness.

    Enraged Groundhog Musk

Enraged Groundhog Musk isn't a musk at all! It's deeeelicious! This is an almost spicy chocolate cherry scent (due to the cardamon?)...I swear can almost smell cassia or cinnamon in here. I never sniff any caramel in this blend at all, just a delicious, spicy chocolate cherry. This is how I wish the box of chocolates from last Valentines Day turned out. Usually chocolate goes sour on my skin and smells like baby vomit but for some reason, Enraged Groundhig Musk really works for me. Nom nom nommmm!

    Luperci

... This scent is for the Luperci, the Chosen of Faunus, the Brothers of the Wolf: raw, down and dirty patchouli, Gurjam balsam, and essence of Sampson Root sweetened with the heightened sexuality of beeswax, virile juniper, oakmoss, ambrette seed over honey and East African musk. I'm reviewing the 2008 version of Luperci. In the bottle: juniper and balsam (this doesn't smell like a Christmas tree.) Wet: Really soft balsam fir/pine mixed with musk. This sort of reminds me of Smoky Moon...just deeper into the forest. I'm not detecting any beeswax, and the honey is simply showing up as sweetness on my skin, preventing the balsam and juniper notes from smelling like potpourri. This is really beautiful. Dry: As Luperci dries I can smell more of the patchouli which is acting more of a glue that holds eveything together. I wouldn't call this a ptchouli-smelling blend at all, it's more focused on the green notes. I'm also picking up more musk at this stage. The final dry down sort of reminds me of Fred Solls incense (which are rolled with pine sap to hold the resins down). Overall: I would describe this as a sweet smelling pine musk, unisex, bordering on the more masculine side but definitely something I will be wearing Gorgeous.

    Frederic

I love Frederic This is actually a masculine scent I can't wear, but my husband pulls it off oh so nicely. Frederic reminds me of my honeymoon in Orlando...it was the only scent my husband wore the whole time. Sniffing this now is bringing up some wonderful memories of running through Disney World wearing sparkly Minnie Mouse ears Ok...on with my review! In the bottle this smells like bay rum and musk. On my husbands skin this is a smoky, musky incense with just a hint of sweetness from the red current. This actually smells EXACTLY like the incense a friend of mine always bring back from New Orleans every year. I'll have to figure out the name of them. Frederic is definitely a masculine scent but I think the right girl could also pull this off. I tend to like more masculine scents but I think there's just a bit too much bay rum in this for it to work on my skin. Dry, this is all powdery incense. Frederic is dark, mysterious and drop dead gorgeous!

    Ephemera

In the vial this smells like soft and pretty violets. On my skin this is a big BURST of dark and somber floral notes. This is slightly sweet on my skin and the dominant floral note is still the violet (which is lovely). This dries into a really REALLY pretty, soft floral blend. This isn't loud and screetchy like so many floral notes are on me, this is gentle and very polite. There's a clean, talcum powder feel to this (not powdery though, if that makes sense). Ephemera is a pleasure to smell! A keeper!

    Crossroads

Right out of the vial I can tell there are bouquets of white flowers and jasmine in this. I'm only gonna put the teeniest drop on my skin.... On my skin now I smell a lot of jasmine mixed with herbal notes and sharp moss. I'm not sniffing any incense or earth (which usually stands out if it's ever in a BPAL perfume. In this case, it's very subdued.) This dries into a very "perfumey" smelling concoction on my hand. Very floral and unfortuantely not for me :/

    Advice on Gaiman scents please

I couldn't have put it better! Also I'd like to add that the honey in Lady Una isn't a beeswaxy honey. It's just rich, golden and sweet. Wax-free!

    November

When I first purchased this I smeared it all over my husband and went off to visit my parents. My scent-loving father fell in love with this and snagged the bottle from me. I had to buy another, loved it so much and then purchased a THIRD November...and it's a good thing because I've already been through one bottle. November is the perfect marriage of Beths aquatic, slushy snow note and her dead leaves note. I think BPAL is the only perfume company whos perfume you can trust to ACTUALLY smell like the description. These are so real and true to life, it's magical. This smells like the end of autumn, dead leaves all around, an almost frozen ground covered by snow. This even has a chilly cooling effect on my skin. This scent just makes me really HAPPY whenever I wear it. It's the sort of thing I love to slather all over my neck, put on a turtleneck sweater and when I'm feeling stressed at work...pull my sweater up to my eyes and just huff in the beautiful scent of November. This is a total work of art

    October

I've had two bottles of this floating around my home. My husband and I are both guilty of slathering this during the cooler months The Labs Autumn scents are to DIE for. Really. They do vetiver and smoke better than anyone else. This is the scent of decaying leaves, but not DEAD leaves. These leaves have changed color, fallen from the trees, are sitting on chilly dead grass and are waiting to decay. The cold autumn wind note shows up as the gentlest breath of ozone, JUST enough though (fear not ozone haters!), this doesn't smell soapy of like dryer sheets at all. October pretty much smells exactly like the description. Leaves, slight decay, air, smoke. All of it in perfect harmony. October in a bottle.

    Mictecacihuatl

This one just never seemed to work out on me. This is all copal (which I usually love) but the other notes create a sort of "old people" odor. It ends up as a warm, powdery...eldery smelling scent with a sweet note that makes me wanna hurl. I know that's harsh but that's how I feel! >< I REALLY don't like this one. It just violently disagrees with my skin. I remember showing this to my husband when it first arrived, he liked it and I was appalled.

    Huesos De Santo

Orange cake. Very sweet. My skin eats up the orange within moments of application. This ends up as a sweet cake scent as it dries. Final dry down is just the memory of something fainty sweet. This one doesn't stick around at ALL
