Oh my, this is a lovely surprise! I initially got it blind just for the novelty of the concept, but I actually love it and may need a backup (sigh). I've never had a BPAL that was less than two stars, but this one is a sleeper five and a half stars! A very gentle, almost sweet patchouli, with a hint of, yes indeed, French Fries and a touch of dirt. On, wet: The vetiver and chypre step up a bit, but in a very gentlemany-tuber fashion and the initial French Fry note dies down, while the salt picks up just a bit. Drydown: The patch and earth notes blend gorgeously with the vetiver, and I'm left with a somewhat spicy/green patchouli, but a cool spicy, with earth and raw potato overtones. It's a real morpher and stays pretty; I just wish it lasted in its intermediate stage a bit longer (although the end result is lovely also). This is a great one if you're a little bit afraid of patchouli and/or earth notes and want to give it a sophisticated go.

Oh, this is so so nice. Reminds me a bit of Snow Blind. It's also a dead ringer for those almost spherical peppermint puff candies--not the hard Starlite candies but the Peppermint Puffs candy if Google is giving me the right name. Not too overbearing so it would make a great body spritz or layering spray.

OK, I am a total SO fan...and this may be one of my favorite variations yet. In the bottle: A strong, almost boozy blast of caramel/burnt sugar with a blob of vanilla. On, wet: The vanilla angle of the SO really takes off, along with sort of a fresh brown sugar cookie-ish kind of thing. Dries down to a really sexy, sweet-musk kind of thing that straddles the line of being a gourmand but not quite. Not getting any yeasty/oily notes but there is a slight cream note (but very different from the cream that I get from St. Brigid or other "cream" blends). Need backups for sure on this one, especially since I blorped some out on my workstation by mistake whilst sniffing the bottle during a boring (off camera) Zoom meeting today....

Been wearing this for two days in a row, and it is a MORPHER. In the bottle: Old bronze, reminds me of an antique bronze mortar and pestle that I have. On, wet: The incense notes pick up; getting a sort of sweet incense smoke. Drydown: Cold incense smoke with that metallic note - vaguely antique store vibe. Needs a few applications to build up but then it stays good for hours.

Been wearing this for 2 days now, and definitely starts very strong with the champagne note but over time you get this great sort of "champagne and pumpkin cheesecake truffle" thing going on. Definitely matches the description perfectly.

Another morpher on me that vaguely reminds me of an amped up version of Snake Oil almost! In the bottle: Almost but not quite gourmand toasted vanilla and pumpkin. On, wet: The patch and a bit of the resinous wood notes start to come out. Drydown: I'm mostly getting a toasty pumpkin with whiffs of woody resins and a good hit of vanilla, and just a hint of something cool like the leather note.

Finally broke open this one because it's Friday and I'm wearing one of my favorite T-shirts while working from home and I was in the mood to handle something powerful today! In the bottle: A slice of fresh apple followed immediately by a BIG rush of apple pie spice. On, wet: The Snake Oil starts to come to the front and the initial blast of pie spice calms down a bit. Drydown: This is surprisingly tame upon drydown. I'm getting a 3-way split between the SO, pie spice, and fresh apple. It's actually much more "fresh" than I expected it to be. It's like I'm walking outside at one of those Pick Your Own Apple places, which also inevitably have a pie counter and locally-made scented holiday candles. Autumnal for sure, but light enough to wear year-round. After a few hours I also get an incredibly clean "after-whiff" which is almost like plain white soap. Not sure what it is but the whole thing ties together nicely.

Been wearing this one for two days now, and at the end of the day, the tonka, vanilla, and beeswax are the main notes that come out -- getting almost no vetiver, but there is a little bit of a background "darkness/herbiness" that keeps the vanilla from becoming a gourmand on me. I kind of wish the sandalwood and vetiver were more forthcoming, but they are definitely playing a role in keeping this from becoming a tonka candy bar on me! This would be a fun one to layer with a harder-hitting patchouli or leather scent, I think.

Another lovely holiday morpher on me! In the bottle: Sweet pom juice and fresh-cut fir. Already, it smells like a super high-end Christmas boutique. On, wet: As it warms up on the skin, an almost green patchouli slowly starts to develop -- very woodsy/fresh evergreen forest with damp soil and a bit of snow. Still, the patch on me is more woodsy, hence my "green" comment -- this is not a dry nor a classically funky patch on me. The whole thing smells like a very posh Xmas potpourri of some sort. Drydown - slow and gradual. Eventually, the fir resin loses its edge, and I'm left with a sort of dry fir bark thing with wisps of patch. Starts out with high throw, eventually gets closer to the skin. Actually a really elegant holiday scent.

Red Musk, Sugared Amber, and Red Berries
Threemoons replied to Silvertree's topic in Duets & Menage A Trois
I let mine sit for a while before trying, based on what people wrote here. It's wonderful on me. In the bottle: Berries, I want to say black currants, with a hint of amber. On, wet: More berries start to come out--blackberry? Raspberry? Hints of something non-berry and darker starts to bubble up, along with a few bright sparks of almost candy-like berries. Drydown: After several hours, the red musk and amber start to show up; after a day of wear it settles into a very soft amber and almost pink-red musk. A morpher on me! Low throw and medium wear length.- 11 replies

OK, like many of the other reviewers on this one, was expecting a punch-you-in-the-face gourmand. Instead....In the bottle: Salty popcorn and a hint of warm bread, with something vaguely soft cottony on the very edges of the background. On, wet: Holy clean cotton, Batman! The vibe changed instantly the second this hit the skin. Still some of the popcorn-y note but with a BIG white aquatic/soft cotton note -- like eating fresh popcorn on the beach while sitting on a very clean, bleached, white cotton towel as the ocean breeze rolls in. Gradually, the "popcorn salt" becomes "sea salt." Very heavy "going to the beaches of NJ near my grandparents growing up/getting snacks on the boardwalk" memories happening right now. Dries down to a very close-to-the-skin warm clean cotton and slightly salty blue-floral aquatic with an occasional "popcorn/bread" spark popping up. So yes to everyone else who noted that this one is a "stealth aquatic" because it is. Also, I normally amp the heck out of butter and salt notes but this one is behaving itself, so go ahead and try this if you're concerned RE amping. It's like having a bottle of Summer Near the Beach handy for when it's -200 below "F this it's too cold" and it's sleeting/freezing rain outside.

Okay, this is absolutely, 100%, NYC half-storefont shoe-shine and repair shop. Leather old and new, resin, and even that sort of odd dry-cleaner chemical smell. I absolutely love it. Has a long development on the skin but that is what I wind up with. No vanilla, nothing sweet, just this insanely wonderful 100% replica of shoeshine/repair places. No other way to describe it. Getting a backup.

2021 version: First time cracking this open for the first night of Chanukkah in 2022! In the bottle: Cocoa with a hint of something almost like orange flower water--I'm thinking the Droste orange chocolates--and toasted hazelnuts. On, wet: Opens up almost immediately into a true sweet cocoa powder, but not TOO sweet -- there's still that floral element, a nut note, and almost something a teeny bit boozy like chocolate liqueur on me. Drydown: This becomes a soft, luscious cocoa perfume on my skin; stays close to the skin; notes of nuts and a teeny bit of florality linger on. Really glad I got this one and held on to it.

This one really is very much almost exactly like the description. Very freshly washed poly-fleece and I really AM getting hits of makeup -- not just my standard Urban Decay/Sephora blend eyeliner but some classic lipstick notes as well--hard to describe but it's definitely an "opening up my makeup bag at the club" kind of thing. Very glad that I snagged this one finally!

In the bottle: Cherry Manischewitz! On, wet: A bit of a mulled wine thing going on; must be the clove. Also, getting a bit of an almost sweet woodsy musk compounded with a hint of chestnut. Drydown: Getting a kind of woody musk with a hint of sweetness. Actually a really nice holiday scent!

Does what it says on the tin! Getting a very boozy, cakey sweet thing!

This one is a total morpher on me. In the bottle: A very sharp blast of the Lab's Dead Leaves note. On, wet: A nose-tickly wool scent shows up behind the dead leaves, along with a hint of amber. Drydown: After several hours I kept smelling something sweet, and I realized it was the cream note mixed with the amber on my skin. Interesting one! Starts out almost harsh but dries down to a very mellow thing.

I had to get this one based on the description. In the bottle: LOTS of apples with a bit of honey and an undertone of leather. On, wet: Apples. Lots and lots of apples, with a thin layer of amber and honey floating on top. Drydown: The leather FINALLY shows up, but it's a very light, dry black leather and not my favorite pervy new black leather jacket leather, and of course, it's also blended with....apples. This starts out a very "wet juicy" scent but dries down to a powdery veil on the skin. May need to layer this one with BRD or similar.

Continuing on with the Ginormous Yard Skeleton...in the bottle: Violets and the salty "tear" note. On, wet: The florals open up more and I get a tiny peek of sandalwood, along with a hint of pumpkin pulp. Drydown: An ALMOST marine salty dry sandalwood with a bit of lavender and the occasional poof of violet.. Low throw, medium wear length.

This one is a morpher I got all 4 of the components for the Ginormous Lawn Skeleton, trying them top to bottom. In the bottle: Uh, oh, sour plastic note with a burnt note. Might just be bottle tight (note--wore this 2 days in a row and yes, it loosened up a bit on the second day in the bottle). On, wet: The caraway really opens up nicely -- it's a note that I don't see a lot of in the Lab's work and I think it's really underrated. I love the bitter, resinous, almost licorice caraway in this and in IRL -- reminds me of caraway seed rye bread from my childhood. There's also a bit of charred wood in the background -- not quite sandalwood but generic charred wood left from a campfire -- blackened but cold, not hot. The cardamom is hardly there; I'm getting it more not as crushed cardamom seeds or pods but the papery green covering on the pods. Drydown: After a few hours, this settles into a really light, dry veil on the skin. The caraway note stays the star player the whole time on me, even after sleeping in it overnight. It mellows down though from its initial resinous pungent self to a dry almost dusty herbal thing. Really nice; can't wait to layer this with some other things and try the rest of the Skeleton....

This sounded intriguing so I had to get it. In the bottle: Tingly and spicy, almost like ginger ale, with a hint of frankincense. On, wet: More spice, herbs, and maybe dry and damp straw. Still really reads as a spice blend on me--not entirely sure what red sage is but I guess this is it! Also still the uncanny read of....ginger ale. Drydown: After a few hours and re-application after an overnight wear, get a touch of dankness that is almost like wet feathers or wet clean dog fur, but...yeah...warm spices and ginger ale. Low throw, long wear. This could be a Yules given the spiciness. Really not getting any of the advertised clay and wet stone, to the point where I double checked the bottle art (name is very hard to read on the bottle -- tiny white letters on a pale background = not great). But yes, I am reviewing the correct scent! I like it, but it is A) not what I expected and B ) really reads completely different on me than in the description! EDIT: After hours of wear, FINALLY getting some wet stone notes along with straw, fur, and feathers. Took a VERY long time to develop though!

Green Cardamom, Irish Fern, and Hinoki
Threemoons replied to Silvertree's topic in Duets & Menage A Trois
Wanted a bit of a break from Weenie Heaviness, but wanted something green but not too light, so reached for this. In the bottle: A total blast of all 3 notes, green and fresh and mashed up. On, wet: The cardamom opens up immediately on the skin, followed by gorgeous crushed fern with a bit of wood in the background. Drydown: Alas, this dries down and fades quickly on me, which is too bad because I love it. After a few hours it's lovely crushed cardamom pods mostly with a hit of green hinoki in the background. Glad I got this one.- 7 replies

I was a little nervous about this one because I am not the hugest fan of the Dead Leaves note. However, since it had Snake Oil listed, I tried it. VERY good call. In the bottle: Sharp Dead Leaves dominates, with a hint of Dorian. On, wet: The Snake Oil and amber notes jump ahead, along with a wisp of lavender smoke. Drydown: The dead leaf note settles way into the background, leaving a really gorgeous mix of Snake Oil, amber, and a touch of lavender.

This is a gorgeous woodsy oudh, that is more on the "foresty" side than the "oudh" side. Amazing on its own or for layering with pretty much any Weenie. Glad I got this one. EDIT revisited this as an all over body spritz today after a shower; very nice!
-
I always get worried RE oud, as it goes either total sexytime or cat box on me, no in-between. Luckily this one is behaving itself and is actually quite lovely! In the bottle: Juicy pom with a woody, oudhy thing in the background. On, wet: Pom bursts forward in all its fresh juicy sweetness Gradually dries down to a really soft, fruity, woodsy oud without even the slightest bit of funk or skunk. It loses some of the pom/sweet note as it dries down but the final item is dry pom rind and wood. Really liking it.
