This one really is like what it says on the label! In the bottle: A blast of sweet orange hard candies with honey notes. On, wet: Dark, sticky honey notes--almost like darker honeycomb--with notes of fresh sweet orange flesh and rind, and a hint of juiciness. Drydown: I'm getting a deep, assertive honey-toffee thing with little hits of orange peel oil. Simple, sweet, and All the Orange....

I love this, but it doesn't last long on me. In the bottle: Bracing lemon peel and bitter herbs. On, wet: More bitter lemon and fresh bitter herbs. Getting a hint of juniper also. Drydown: Alas, fades very fast, but while it's there I get a really clean soapy spa smell, like something you would want in a wet sauna. Needs a few re-applications during the day.

I absolutely adore both Smut HG and Smut Perfume. The HG from 2019 (? time flies) is a bit sweeter than the perfume on me, and also reads a bit more on the vanilla side. I don't find the HG heavy on my hair at all, and I have ultra fine stick straight, oily, boring Nordic hair. If anything, it's great for flyaways. Anyway, love the latest issue of this HG.

A Karasu Tengu Copulating with the Knot-Hole of a Pine Tree
Threemoons replied to zankoku_zen's topic in Lupercalia
Another True Morpher on me. In the bottle: True pine bark. As a very little girl, I would go to a park in the Pine Barrens with my folks all the time, and I remember the sticky pine sap coming out of the bark in the Spring; the folks telling me not to touch it, and me doing it anyway and having the smell on my hands and clothes all the way home. On, wet: Whut, WHUT roses WHUT? How can roses be so nice with pine? But here we are...a really pure rose attar just jumps up out of the pine out of nowhere. Tiny peeps of orris root start to bubble up also. Drydown: The oakmoss stays well in the background, while tiny little dry wisps of woodiness also float up. The dryer it gets, the more the sandalwood floats over everything. At the end of the day I get a combo of dry sandalwood, resiny rose, and the ghost of pine bark and sap. Really nice, oddly androgynous. -
This is a nice one, especially for the vetiver fans out there. In the bottle: Woody, damp, almost musty vetiver. On, wet: Starts to lighten up and "dry out" quickly; musty aspect dispels and fresh black tea steps in instead, which freshens and sharpens things up a bit. Drydown: Takes about an hour to fully dry down; that's when I start to get little puffs of gentle licorice and the "cashmere" note. After a few hours the cashmere and dry wood really is the dominant note, with a veil of vetiver in the background. The listed lemon note is totally AWOL on me.

Super lovely, fruity, and peachy. Goes amazingly well with Peach Vulva perfume.

This is the freshest, fruitiest peach and apricot bomb! Lasts a really long time on the skin, with good throw.

I am getting a really odd read on this. In the bottle: Believe it or not, I am getting a blast of banana taffy with a bit of ginger-ale effervescence! On, wet: This is like a fresh tin of expensive fruit hard candies--getting mixed fruit notes, with pear gradually floating to the top and a few waves of very sweet pink grapefruit candy. Still, the throw stays VERY low and VERY close to the skin. Drydown: I am left with a bit of dry, incense-y, powdery, sweet note, almost like a sweet skin musk. As others have reported alas, this scent is here for a good time and not a long time--it fades out fairly quickly and stays super close to the skin. I could see wearing this with loose clothing on a really REALLY hot gross day when you don't have to worry about sweating off/over-amping whatever perfume you're wearing. Would also love to see this one as a HG in future years, or even an atmo.

Holy cannoli, this is truly a depraved rose scent. Glad I scored a bottle on Etsy. Anyway....in the bottle: Roses and.....something else. Tonic water? Something vaguely chemical but not offputting. On, wet: Sugary rose and some kind of aldehyde/quinine? Drydown: Tea rose and a hint of something chemical....latex? Anyway this is a super kinky, decadent rose.

I got CT 84. On me it's straight, lovely, dirty-hippie funky skunky patchouli with a teeny bit of hemp.....

This one I almost didn't get and it was on my "second pass" list because of the cinnamon, which I tend to amp like a fiend and once in a blue moon get a rash from. Thankfully, it's quite delightful and morphs into a "split level" scent; ie a few hours after applying you can smell some notes close to your skin while others are almost somewhere else in the room, but still there. In the bottle: Really bottle-tight, I get a sort of dirty cinnamon with a hint of vanilla. On, wet: The cinnamon really does settle down almost immediately to the scent of dried bulk Mexican cinnamon bark (canella), and the tonka bean steps up to the plate. Then, the magic starts to happen. After about half an hour, the yam note comes up and at this point it reminds me of Sweet Potato Musk but less sweet. Then, a few hours later, I start smelling this green, clean, dry note in the background and I assume it's the trees outside because I have my window open. Nope, it's the oakmoss! So, close to the skin, you have this Sweet Potato Musk/Amber thing going on, with a veil of oakmoss livening things up just above the surface. Really fun! In keeping with the "group fun" theme of the scent, I bet this would layer fabulously with Sweet Potato Musk or any vanilla or oakmoss scent that you want to try it with.

So hard to describe this one....starts as sort of a marine sandalwood incense and then dries down to the most gorgeous, delicate marine salty floral. Endgame is a sort of very expensive, clean, fresh soap smell. Loving it.

This was one of those that I thought would smell totally different than what it actually does. In the bottle: Oh, no, my nemesis POUDH, with honey. On, wet: Honey recedes a bit, along with the oudh, but I'm also getting a strong dark resiny scent. Drydown: Oudh, resin, honey dust, and the tiniest bit only of a dry leather note. May need some more bottle time. At least the oudh calms down and behaves itself after a while. I suspect this would be lovely layered with any other leather or resin scent.

This is absolutely gorgeous. The word "plush" comes to mind. Imagine Snake Oil with red musk and all manners of red fruits, red plush dark velvet roses, and all of the Sexy Dark Red Things. This one is a real morpher and gradually smolders down to this deep, sexy, musky, rosey...thing.. Love it. Need a backup.

I love this scent as a perfume, but it works even better as a hair gloss for layering. It's especially wonderful with any honey, tobacco, or Snake Oil variants! Or even with plain ol' Snake's Kiss perfume!

Was looking forward to this, but also with some trepidation as honey can totally amp on me an be overpowering, but I LOVE marzipan. So.....onward. In the bottle: Almost overpowering wave upon wave of dry, powdery honey--almost like the edible honey dusting body powder that some adult stores sell (not that I would ever know anything about that, honest! ) along with a blast of almond extract. On, wet: More honeybomb--opens up like the smell of hard honey candies. Gradually, the almond starts to pipe up and settle down to a bit of marzipan on top of giant rolling waves of honey. Takes a LONG time to dry down and settle down. Once it does, it's a manageable dry honey/sweet almond thing with an afterwhiff of marzipan on the "backsniff." I like it, but I would def consider layering it with something to cut the sweetness, and/or only apply a LITTLE--this is super duper strong on me. Would also be a great winter scent as opposed to a summer scent where if I sweat it off outside it would probably be waaaay too strong. Kind of wish that this one had more marzipan in it but it may just need a rest; it IS very tight in the bottle now.

This is so gorgeous, and such a great companion to so many of the Shunga perfumes. I am getting a delicious floral blend of fresh peach and cherry blossoms, offset by the orris root and the faintest hint of sweet vanilla. I would pair with any other cherry blossom or peach blossom scent!

Oh, my, this is as nice as I thought it would be. I don't have a whole lot of the "vulva" line, and I didn't even realize that it was A Thing, like Laces. Anyway, starting to get with the program. Today I showered and went out to my greenmarket in the rain and wanted a fresh Spring scent. This did not disappoint. In the bottle: True, fresh-flower cherry blossoms with the gardenia and a hint of honeysuckle. On, wet: The cream note and the plum blossom start to come forward, but it's still all part of a gorgeous, creamy fresh floral blend. I'm almost getting the lightest skin musk from the cream note. Drydown: This retains its floral freshness, with the cream note coming forward as the cherry and plum blossom notes settle down and dry out a teeny bit. Really gorgeous and super femme!

Got two bottles of this just for the tomato leaf note, which is one of my faves. Did not disappoint. In the bottle: A very green balsam; it's a bit tight in the bottle still. On, wet: Tomato leaf note, benzoin, and wood notes quickly float to the top. The sweet benzoin is like a breeze on top of the main scent, which has the tomato leaf as its standout note. Drydown: This has a long, lovely drydown; end result is a greenish woody mélange with the mahogany as its base, with only slight hits of the patch. Oddly enough, the cardamom is not really showing itself that much if at all; it's kind of blended in with the rest of the green/spice element. The tomato leaf lasts into the drydown where it is still present, just more muted; think crushed dry tomato stems when you twist one tomato off of a bunch from the supermarket. REALLY nice. Definitely a unisex scent also, and as many have observed, it really is like a very high end men's cologne.

Normally this is a scent that would be out of my instabuy zone, but got it on recommendations. In the bottle: BIG blast of honey and dried fig. On, wet: Total sweet honey bomb, almost overwhelming, which is odd because I usually don't amp honey. LONG drydown, ultrasweet. Took a very long time to calm down. Finally, the resin note kicked in after about 6+ hours and became more balanced. It's still a very sweet scent with a very long throw and last time.

Was lucky enough to score a partial bottle of this awhile ago, and I so hope that they bring it back! This really is the perfect sweet, deep, sexy patchouli HG that you are looking for, for all of your layering needs and by itself. I also recently colored my hair and I have to say that BPAL HGs in general have been great for controlling flyaways, adding control, and giving a nice shine. And they seem to be color safe! All around win.
-
This one was a no-brainer for me as it has SO MANY of my fave BPAL notes--Snake Oil, Smut, cardamom, aged patch, and leather are normally my instabuy notes, and of COURSE I had to have them all in the same bottle. Add me to the long list of people who are betting that this will age phenomenally, if I can keep out of my backup bottles long enough because I want to bathe in this. I so, so, SO hope that this becomes part of Lupers rotation every year! Anyway, on to the review! In the bottle! A warm blast of spicy sweet patch; almost getting Silkybat vibes on this! Then, two seconds after the first sniff, a nice dark wave of leather creeps up in the back of my nose. OOOOOOH this is gonna be FUN! On, wet: Oh yeah, that's the stuff. Some of the booziness of Smut starts to come forward, and some of the leather note gets pushed to the front more on a wave of that glorious musky smuttiness. The cardamom packs little sparkles of itself on top of the wave also. Drydown: I have this gorgeous, slightly boozy sweet patchouli thing with an almost dusty brown leather undertone on it. The elements blend completely together on drydown, which is amazing. My only gripe is that I wish this lasted longer on me! It may be because I put it on fresh out of the shower--so almost no skin oil to absorb it; will keep re-applying later in the day. EDIT OK second application seems to be lasting longer, YAY! Edit to edit: OK, second application lasting MUCH longer, really nice!!

I had so expected this to be a heavy blue musk, and it's not--it is such a light, fresh scent on me, both in my hair and on my skin. On me, I get this amazing light floral blue musk shot through with bright streaks of eucalyptus and evergreen. Layers really well with my herby/citrus perfumes.
-
I love this, I just wish it lasted longer on me! In the bottle: Strong, sharp lemon zest. On, wet: The mellow bitterness of iced green tea starts to cut the sharpness of the lemon. Drydown: Develops very quickly into this gorgeous spa-like, very VERY clean-smelling scent. If they made dryer sheets or fabric softener that smelled like this I would totally wash my sheets every 72 hours. This would also make an amazing atmo!

Not what I expected at all, but I like it! In the bottle: Salty GINGERBREAD and popcorn. Really. On, wet: Salt stays and sweetness intensifies a bit. Gingerbread note stays but then gradually the plum and a sweet tarry note show up. Also getting a tiny teeny bit of a deep marine note, but not a high, men's cologne marine note. Drydown: Salty sweet resins with a hint of really dark plum with sweet dark resins and yes, still some popcorn!
