  1. Shadwell smells delightfully sweet in the decant - almost a touch of caramel.

On, I get a big whiff of cologne, and light tobacco, but the combination isn't overpowering. It's got a warm, gentle feel that makes me smile. This is comforting.

As he dries, the condensed milk and tea come through - the former never getting cloying. This is so beautifully blended. It's warm and dry and completely delightful on me!

Another big win for the Good Omens group! Love it! :P

  2. Uh... :D :D

Hoooo boy. This is a masculine version of Smut on me. Ergo - this is sex. If this is civet, count me among the few, the proud, the dedicated musk-fanatics who love it. Because Satyr smells like a good time.

If there's amber in here, it's behaving, and unless it turns after time on my skin, this is a winner. Patchouli and filthy musk - how can I NOT adore this one.

If the boy was home, I'd be jumping him immediately. Instead I'll just entertain grown-up thoughts and add this delectable, filthy blend to my bottle list NOW. :P

  3. Whoa honey!

Wow. The honey completely dominates this when it hits my skin. Overpoweringly so. It smelled much more subdued in the imp.

As it dries, the honey mercifully pulls back for the carnation and rose, and when dry, the bergamot takes the edge off the sweetness.

It is, however, too sweet and a bit soapy for me. Far too girly. Glad I tried it, but once again, a MTP blend doesn't do it for me.

Off to the swaps with you, Alice.

EDIT: Hold the fort! I spoke far too quickly and have to now yoink Alice from the swap-box. She's turned into the most wonderful, spicy carnation without a trace of sweetness. Wow - morpher! I'll age the imp to see if the honey settles down, because the longer she's on my skin, the better she gets.

  4. I had expected to love this far more than I do. It has so much I love in it.

But the lemon in this really amps up to cleaning-product proportions on my skin. This does fade on the dry-down though, and I'm left with lemony musk with a touch of aloe. The dry stage is beautiful, albeit very very light.

I'll use the imp, definitely, but I think I have other blends (like F5) that are in this family that I like more than embalming fluid. I'll re-test it and see if I'm just having an off day.

  5. Wow - this is a floral I LIKE! It's absolutely yellow. None of the white floral ick here.

Wet, it's all about the skin musk and honeysuckle. Skin musk is a very naughty smelling musk, to my nose. When wet, this blend is making lewd suggestions. Always a good thing.

As it dries, this is just heavenly. I'm guessing it's due to the honeysuckle, but it's reminding me of Cancer 07 without the dreaded sweetpea - and with the added sexuality of amber and musk. This is floral without being cloying, and girly without being flippant. The warm depth to this is languid and womanly, surrounded by yellow blooms and warm air.

I've found my floral for when I feel like getting my girly on. This is yummy, and if the amber continues to behave, I am definitely getting a bottle. :P

  6. Damn iiiiiiiiiitttt! I am having absolutely NO luck with Mad Tea Party blends.

This SO should have been a winner on me. It starts out brilliantly - big tea love. Gorgeous, fresh and citrusy.

"Ah, this is a must-have tea blend!" I thought.

Drying down, the tea started to step back and the peony (previously absent) rises up. It's nice enough, but SOMETHING in here isn't liking my skin. I'm getting that odd icky sunscreen smell of something not going right on me. What that is I have no idea - I can only guess that there's some herb that my skin doesn't like, or certain florals will do this on me.

Said icky sunscreen smell backs off again and I get a whiff of tea and peony once more - but it's still there underneath, and it just ruins this blend for me.

:P I wanted to like you, Dormouse!

  7. Oh, this is lovely from the imp! Yummy plum!

The carnation is spicy and wonderful, the plum keeping it from getting too floral. The musk is delightful.

As it dries, the carnation gets stronger, staying peppery with the plum adding its sweetness. I was ready to add this one to my bottle list - but unfortunately after this has been on for a while, the carnation has gotten powdery. The plum's lost it juicy edge, the musk has gone and it's all turned to potpourri. :P

    Dang. This was almost awesome.

  8. I have this because Blondiekins is a goddamn winner! :D

    Ahhh! :D

Oh, this is sooooo good! Bright lemon (and aloe?) - the wet phase reminds me of La Fee Verte without the tea. It's bright, fresh lemon with that touch of vanilla. Dry, it's like Enraged Bunny Musk (which I also love!) without the clover. It's light vanilla lemon with pale musk.

SO much love for this. It's luscious! :P

  9. What about Dee?

Dee is one sexy bastard - but he's not necessarily in a library for me (or trousers, for that matter :P ).

He is awesome though, and on my next bottle order.

Haven't tried it, but I wonder if this might be Pulcinella & Teresina? The description is "labdanum, cedar, teak and red rose". I was just reading reviews and it seems to be more about the woods and resins than the rose...

I have been eyeing that one now for a while. I'll see if I can nab a decant from somewhere next time I see one go up on a sale. The Labdanum is the one thing that's iffy for me in those notes.

  10. With huge thanks to the awesome Blondiekins for this: :D

Just smelling this from the bottle is heavenly! Dear god, that is the most beautiful amber.

It's so gentle and warm and delicious. There's an orange touch to it that's just divine. The saffron lends a lovely compliment. I do see where folk are getting the "fizzy pop" from, but the sweetness is luscious and not overly foody. There's a warm vanilla feel to it, and the amber is well behaved, which makes me SO happy.

This is just magnificent! I utterly adore it, and am SO thrilled to have a bottle! Complete and utter :P for Leo.

  11. These all sound good. Let me know if you find the librarian one! I was hoping Miskatonic University would be the ultimate librarian scent but it's a bit too foody.

Penny Dreadful's a pretty good library scent, even though it has florals - the wood in it makes me think of libraries. Still not a strict "library" scent, though it's one I love.

Myself, I'm looking for the ultimate cowboy/Wild West scent. My boyfriend introduced me to the love of spaghetti westerns and currently we're speeding through Season 1 of Deadwood (best thing ever, no spoilers plz). I love Roadhouse and Bordello, Tombstone is at the top of my wishlist and I'm open to trying everything with dry grass, whisky, wood and leather. I'd love more suggestions for Wild West BPALs. (I know about Dead Man's Hand but I don't think I really need to try it if it's pure leather, and hard to find.)

We need a Calamity Jane scent.

I'm also on the lookout for the perfect deep, churchy incense blend. It needs to be all serious, without a hint of hippie incense. I think it might be Midnight Mass, hope it comes back this Christmas.

Oh, we DO need a Calamity Jane scent. I'd also love a three-scent set of "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly". I'd love to know what "The Ugly" would smell like. :P

Tombstone is divine. And I'll also second Western Diamondback. Yummy snake oil with dry woods - it's my favourite snake so far.

  12. Whoa that is some brutal mint. :P It's super-medicinal. Not a smell I like unless I'm using it for that purpose, and even then it's out of necessity.

It takes a while for the lavender to get a look-in, and when it finally does, it's still dominated by the mint. This is a great interpretation, but not something I want to smell like.

    Definitely not for me.

  13. Absolutely Mint Julep.

Love the way this starts off! Boozy mint!

Unfortunately my skin seems to dislike this one, as the bourbon vanishes and the mint goes wrong. I'm not left with a particularly nice smell at all - it's like mint gone floral powder. :P

Dang. I wanted to like this one.

  14. Apple blossom, with a touch of rose and a lot of ylang ylang.

I'm not a fan of spring florals like this one, but wet, it's certainly pretty. I don't get any honey - not that I really got a chance, as this very promptly turned into the smell of Nivea Cream on my skin. Something in this doesn't like me, but there's no love lost, as it's not my thing to begin with.

    Off it comes.

  15. First Illyria blend I've liked!

This is just lovely! Sweet and innocent and fresh. Gorgeous tart berries over sweet grasses, with just a hint of wild flowers in the distance. It's light, summery and joyful.

As it dries, there's a citrus tang to it. For me, this blend lies somewhere between my beloved Glasgow and Baobhan Sith. It's sweeter than Glasgow, and softer and more floral than Baobhan Sith. It's completely delightful and I'll absolutely be using the imp.

    Love it! :P

  16. Rose and :P Jasmine. I was foolish to put this on before checking the notes.

Mercifully the Jasmine backs off a bit when this dries down, and there's a touch of the musk underneath. On a jasmine lover, no doubt this would be a beautiful blend.

But I'm no jasmine fan, and it's even managed to kill off the rose which normally amps on me.

    Not for me at all.

  17. Just enough in this sniffie to test (and to my eternal shame, I didn't write down who frimped me this. Thank you, whoever you are!)

I'm yet to meet a pumpkin I don't like. This is magnificent. :D

That familiar, rich, deep pumpkin dominates, but then backs off as the wonderful amber and cardamon push through. The orange compliments beautifully. This is definitely a sexy pumpkin blend. It's warm, deep, and makes sly promises.

I can't wait for the pumpkin blends for the next halloween update. Beth does such stellar work with them, and this one is another glorious win. Completely adore it, and wish I'd been around when it was available.

    :P

  18. Ultimate soft rose: Have you tried Lucy's Kiss or London? Neither is as in-your-face as Rose Red; they're both tea roses. Moon Rose, too, though the nighttime flowers killed that one for me.

Yeah, not a fan of tea rose, after trying both those blends. My favourite rose blend is Whip, because it's a real, wet, just-picked red rose. The leather is sadly swamped, but that rose note is gorgeous.

I liked Moon Rose, as I like the night-time flowers - but it's too pretty for me to want to wear it much.

I want the ultimate honey scent that doesn't turn wonky on me. I want it to smell like mead or supersweet clover honey, not beeswax. Honey Moon was close. Honey SN was closer. Neither was my perfect honey scent.

I am so with you on wanting a mead or clover honey blend. That would be a glorious thing.

  19. I'll take one of each of those. :P

Have you tried The Black Tower? I haven't but it sounds like it might fit one of your wants (not sure which one), and I don't see any notes that won't work for you.

I amp rose too. I love rose, but I am trying to find a rose that doesn't end up a single note on me, it's the reason Zombi had no earth on me. :D

Yeah, Zombie did exactly the same with me too. Just enough of a whiff of the soil just to torment me before the rose took over. I love rose, but with my amping skin, I only need one - otherwise it's just going to be a series of blends that smell the same on me.

Have you tried Nocnitsa? That had an honest-to-god wet dirt note at the start. It faded (I liked what it faded into - I like moss), but it was absolutely dirt at the beginning.

Yep, I've tried The Black Tower, and it's very close to my perfect castle scent. But the red wine in that one gives it a meaty-fruity note that's not my perfect idea of a castle scent. Also, I need to be in the mood for Black Tower, or it starts making me think of Bonox - it's why I ended up not getting a bottle. I think the imp might be enough.

  20. I know how you like a good list funkmoppet, and I'm curious, what kinds of scents are you craving?

    :P *cracks list writing knuckles*

The big one for me is the ultimate castle scent. One without pine, and without dragon's blood, and without food notes. I want stone and wood and tapestries. Problem is myrrh is such a good note for that, but my stupid skin won't play very nicely with myrrh.

    Then there's:

Ultimate animalistic musk scent. (Some kind of Buck Moon, Coyote, Smut hybrid)

Ultimate librarian scent. (Aziraphale's the closest, and I adore it - but I'd just love one LIKE that, but with extra musk, and a touch of pipe smoke. Just a touch.)

Ultimate woodlands scent. (one without pine, with more dirt, mushrooms, mulch and light wild-flowers)

Ultimate beach scent (without sunscreen. Sand, salt and wild grasses)

Ultimate rose scent (a big ask with rose's amping tendencies on me - but I'd love a rose with wood, leather and musk that doesn't just turn into rose on me.)

Ultimate worsted wool scent. (with heather. Heavy wool laundered with a breath of heather or lavender.)

Ultimate warrior scent. (with no dragon's blood. I want salt, leather, steel and sweaty musk.)

And I'm with you on the ultimate vanilla and berry scent. Tart wild berries.

    I don't ask for much. :D

  21. Ultimate grapefruit for me is Baobhan Sith. Can't wait for my bottle to arrive.

Ultimate pipe tobacco for me is Hearth 04. Cherry tobacco, like my old parish priest used to smoke - spot on. Herr Drosselmeyer is also a close second.

Ultimate citrus and vanilla for me is Theodosius. Also musky. Seriously divine. Knocks Dorian out of the park for me as far as tea blends go.

  22. Bengal without the honey.

There's cinnamon, and to my unsure nose, possibly sassafras, patchouli and amber. There's something that warms it close to the skin on the dry down, mellowing the spiciness of the wet phase. It's very calm when dry. A gentle woodiness. I'm not really getting any floral from this.

This is lovely. A nice substitute for days when I want the spice of Bengal, but without the sweetness.

  23. Ah, it's one of those florals I don't like. Yup, gardenia. My initial reaction to this when wet is a definite "no".

However the other notes in this one emerge when it dries down, and turn it from "another white floral" into something I'm finding surprisingly nice! Who'd a thunk it? The pretty, sweet gardenia is reigned in by emerging amber and, I think, musk and incense. It's managing a sexy transformation. Still very floral, but with a depth that makes it interesting.

I'm reminded a little of The Witch Queen - this is a bit like the light, white version. There's something mysterious and womanly here, but it doesn't have the dark, purple edge TWQ has.

All in all, I'm really amazed to find a white floral I actually like. How often I'd wear it is another thing entirely, but I think I'll hang onto the imp.

Edit: Scratch my final thoughts - this has turned a bit unpleasantly toilet-cleaner on me after some time on my wrist. No white floral for me.

  24. I was sure I wouldn't like this one, as I smell strong hazelnut in the imp, and that's a note I don't like on my skin.

But it goes right to the background when it hits my skin, and that delicious, spicy pumpkin works its magic! The cocoa is subdued, and partners the rich pumpkin beautifully. As it dries, the cocoa gets a little more dominant, and the pumpkin fades.

Not my favourite of the pumpkins I've tried, but it's still delicious! :P

  25. With huge thanks to filligree_shadow, who generously frimped me this to try. :D :P

I'd actually been avoiding even wanting to try this one, because I didn't want to fall in love with something this rare and prized.

But oh - the legend is true! This is SO gorgeous it's hard to find words. It's in the family with Misk U, but it's so much gentler. None of the really overpowering caramel or coffee note here. It's gorgeous straight from the imp and onto the skin. Foody without being too sweet, woody without overpowering everything else. It's subdued and gentlemanly.

Utterly divine. :D Everything I feared it would be, because now I get to lament that I'll never have a bottle, and guard my precious imp like Gollum.
