I love this. It's a blast of strong creamy coffee - almost tiramisu-like - upon application. As it dries and fades, the vanilla ice cream notes become more pronounced and ultimately I end up with a tasty mix of both on my skin. So good.

Everything z_z says is on point. As both a honey and tobacco lover, this was an instant buy for me when it hit Etsy. It's very boozy when you first open the bottle. I let mine sit for a few days before trying it because the booze note was so strong. It settled well after a few days. Upon application there's a very strong blast of boozy honey, almost like a honey throat lozenge. The booze note wears off quickly and a rich tobacco honey is left behind. It also pairs perfectly with the Honey, Balsam, Leather, and Bourbon Tobacco HG that was out recently.

FORMULA SGHAN3: Birthday Cake
frizzlechicken replied to Ina Garten Davita's topic in Unreleased Scents
This delivers on its promise. It’s sugary buttercream frosted cake. It’s elegant though, as I’d expect with BPAL. Good wear time and medium- to low-throw on me. Doesn’t morph much once on, just fades. I love it. -
Wildflower Honey and Patchouli
frizzlechicken replied to Ina Garten Davita's topic in Duets & Menage A Trois
This is gorgeous! When it first arrived I tried it fresh from the mail, and the honey dominated. After a week to rest, it's the most lovely sweet honey but with the patchouli blending underneath. Doesn't morph on my skin, just remains a beautiful light honey patchouli with good lasting power. It's reminiscent of a light version of Zoe and the Goat, if that makes sense. -
This is really lovely when it first goes on...strong notes of Apricot and Roses. No vetiver (and I love vetiver). As it dries down the plum shows up, and ultimately it fades to an airy plum note. I enjoyed it tons but wish the wet notes lasted longer, so it would be more of a scent locket one for me.

Whoever said Funfetti Cake is spot on. This is strong, rich, buttery cookies and funfetti. I hadn’t thought about the coconut but now that I see the other reviews I do concur that there’s a slightly coconutty note mixed in. It’s not strong, though, at least not to my nose. It’s mostly Funfetti cookie to me. Wear length on this one is long; I can still smell it in my hair even after showering.

Candy Canes, Powdered Sugar, Snickerdoodles, and Vanilla Cream
frizzlechicken replied to mizliz2176's topic in Hair
Mmmmm this is so good! It’s a blast of peppermint up front, and then very quickly settles into a baked goods scent. A faint whiff of mint wafts throughout wear, but it’s pleasant and mild. Mostly this is warm cookies. I’ve worn it a few times now and every time someone says “Man you smell good!” -
Liked this so much more than I anticipated, since many Strawberry scents can turn too sweet for me. This is however a really pure strawberry scent, tempered nicely by whatever the "rain splash" is. It doesn't morph much and wears nicely; just a clean, crisp Strawberry on me.

The Palace of Versailles
frizzlechicken replied to VioletChaos's topic in Black Phoenix Trading Post
The initial application is a minute or so of that almost barnyard-y oudh, but not strong like in some other blends. Then the jasmine blooms - literally - and it does indeed smell very classy and expensive. It wears well and I'm left with a beautiful deep jasmine for hours. Really interesting blend, and if you like jasmines this is a must to try. -
This is really nice. The coffee blast on application is strong, but it mellows almost immediately on me to a gorgeous honey note with some slight sweetness that I assume is the cookies. The coffee also remains throughout. Thumbs-up. Editing to add: I'm trying this again a few weeks after my initial review and I like it even more. The blend has mellowed and there's a note of pipe tobacco that I didn't pick up on the first time around. It's like if coffee liquer was a very high-end perfume being worn while in a tobacco shop. I love it and this will officially be a full bottle purchase.

Heart-Shaped Beanie on the Metro
frizzlechicken replied to TheIceMaiden's topic in Black Phoenix Trading Post
I did not expect to love this as much as I do. It is gorgeous. The blend of orange blossom, rose, and sugar is just incredible. I love it. It's very rosy on application but then dries down with a definitely sugary orange blossom note. I couldn't stop sniffing my wrist. This will be a full size bottle buy for sure. -
This one was odd for me. Upon application and for about two hours after, it smelled exactly like a little rosin bag that you'd use when bowling. I don't mind that. But then after the 2-hour mark it morphed into some sort of minty acrid clove. That's the best description I can think of. It skewed almost a little "cat pee". Might be my skin chemistry, but this one's a miss for me (thankfully it was a decant).
-
Mmmm. The first blast is like the woodsmoke in Midnight Bonfire. Then it settles into whiffs of clove and pine. There's something else I can't put my finger on but it might be the Frankincense. It's lovely.

I got a decant of this and when I first popped it open I actually didn't like it. The ginger was so overpowering that it almost smelled rancid. I let it sit for a few days and last night it had mellowed, so I tried it. Dammit, I love it. It's the familiar Gingerbread note with the added baking spice effect of the Ginger. It smells like Ginger Snaps. It faded fairly quickly on me but while it was on, it was heavenly.
-
I got a decant of this to try, because some fruity notes don't sit well with my body chemistry (they can go too sweet or plastic-y) but this is awesome. It's a burst of strong blueberry but has baked good note mixed in which must be the fried dough. Wear was long and strong and it mellowed into a really nice cloud of baked blueberries. Will definitely buy a bottle.

Loooooove. On application it's a blast of dusty rose, in some ways reminiscent of the recent Encampment of Shepherds. After the initial rose blast, it settles into a delicious vanilla lace rose. Teeny tiny bit of musk for me, but not much. It's mostly Sugared Rose Lace. I don't really detect the tobacco, but I can tell there's something spicy mixed in that keeps it from being cloying. I absolutely love it and am so glad I blind-bottled it.

I’m really surprised by how much I liked this! It’s one of the least Gingerbread-y of these, and the balance with the vetiver and black currant is wonderful. On me the black currant dominates, but the underlying combination of the Gingerbread and vetiver give it a darker note so it’s never too sweet. It smells like a high-end perfume you might buy in a department store. This was one I bought as a decant on a whim but may actually buy a full size!

I can't believe I didn't review this yet. It's one of my favorites of the 2018 Yules so far. I don't get a ton of coffee to be honest, but I do get a gorgeous warm vanilla layered over an orange-y Gingerbread. It's so delicious from start to finish.
-
This is lovely. Upon application it’s sugary lavender, but as it dries down the Gingerbread (which I concur is lemony) adds a spicy, smoky note to this so it isn’t too sweet. It’s also light, so it never overwhelms. I bought a decant but this will be a full bottle purchase for sure. ETA: I fell hard for this one and after this initial review wound up ordering not one, but two backup bottles. I love it that much.

Love love love. It's Gingerbread + the French Tobacco SN, to my nose. And I love both those things, so this is win/win.

I wore this in my (new to me!) Clocket, plus on my skin. It's a really lovely, warm, very close-to-the-skin scent. On my arms it lasted all day, but very faintly. In the locket it was stronger, but not much. The actual scent is like sitting in a sun-warmed library (a nice old one) while a sun-warmed kitty sits in your lap or nearby on a windowsill while you read a well-loved book. It's that evocative. To try and describe...there's a light charred fire smokiness and something almost like paper, plus a faint perfume that brings the cat fur to mind, and then a subtle spice that I assume is the chai. I actually love that it's such a gentle scent since some days I'm just not in the mood to rock out with a strong scent. This one is lovely and comforting.

Pumpkin Spice Sanguinem Menstruum
frizzlechicken replied to RedPersimmon's topic in Gifts with Donation or Purchase
I love this. Like, a lot. I also have no idea how to properly describe it. It's definitely Pumpkin, and definitely musk, and then there's some notes of...honeysuckle? That's what I'm getting. And also a slight metallic note which must be the "blood musk". It all blends together beautifully. The spice aspect is light. Also, if you liked this season's Pumpkin Musk and Black Oudh (I love it), then you definitely need to track down a decant or bottle of this, because it almost feels like a companion scent. -
I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. Definitely a backup bottle scent. When I first received it from the Lab, I was actually really unsure because it smelled like pure cigarette smoke to my nose. I let it sit for a week and upon re-sniff it had settled some and I could detect the patchouli. And then I tested it and OMG. It's incredible. It goes on with a sweet honey/tobacco/patchouli blast, and that combo is just heavenly on me. As it dries down, the honey and patchouli stay at the forefront in a really beautiful way. It also has solid lasting power. I just love it. It's one of those "I keep sniffing where I put it" scents because I love it so much. I will say this to help give an impression of the scent as well: it reminds me a little of a non-allergy-causing, non-headache-inducing, way-more-elegant-version of the original Mugler Angel perfume. (I loved that stuff back in the day, but as with all commercial perfumes, I eventually over sensitize to them and they trigger allergies. Which is why I love BPAL...they do not!) As a bonus, much later in the day as Zoe and the Goat had faded I put a little SN French Tobacco over it. SO GOOD.

On me this goes on as a very soft Raspberry note. I'm not getting a ton of goats' milk, and the whole scent's starting to fade after only a few hours. I'll probably let this age a bit to see if it changes at all. It's nice and gentle and totally inoffensive.

OMG. Not much else to say other than it's incredible. It's literally a King Cake in a bottle. It smells just like that on application, and fades as the hour pass, leaving a lovely pancake-y scent behind. Love love love. This is a new favorite.
