2023 restocked version. I like this even more than I thought I would. It's quite similar to Dorian IMO, but it smells much more green at first. I think the jasmine leaf and white musk make it a bit sharper, though the jasmine note never goes into super floral territory. It opens with stronger bergamot and some mossiness, but the dry down is a similar sugary vanilla tea. To me, it's a "colder" Dorian. For some reason the dry down also reminds me of my beloved Grey Columns, and even though I'm not sure why it does, that makes me happy.

I've been enjoying this ever since it arrived. It's of course similar to Like a Girl, but more bright and sugared. To me, it smells like creamy soft vanilla with a hefty dose of sugar and pine-y frankincense. Very unisex/genderfluid, IMO. It makes me feel confident and pretty, and it lasts a long time.

When I first got this from the Lab a couple years ago, I found it kind of sharp and discordant. But dayuum, aging has done it wonders. It's still a bold scent, with the blood musk and vetiver, but the dry down is so sexy. Animalic, fuzzy, but with a gorgeous syrupy vanilla'd red musk. I don't find the Snake Oil super recognizable in this unless I look for it, but I think it's what gives this a lot of its sweet slinkiness. After 12 hours or so I can still smell it on my skin, and in this stage it reminds me a bit of the light, sweet red musk of Random Brothel (which is a very good thing).

To me, this is kind of like the lovechild of Abalone Vulva and Dragon's Milk. I love this sugared cream note (though be aware I am a huge cream/milk note fan), which reminds me of whipped cream. The pink lotus is a sweet, watery floral that gives me an aquatic feeling without really being aquatic. Very pretty.

This is one of my favorite TALs and I'm surprised I'm the only reviewer so far (I should have reviewed sooner, but when I love something a lot, can be difficult to find what to say . . . so I'm keeping it simple). Scent-wise it's light, pretty, and unobtrusive; the florals don't overwhelm. Ethereal and silvery like its namesake. I love willow as a note and the vanilla makes everything harmonize really well. I feel calmer and more grounded when I wear this, more able to go with the flow and manage stressful situations.

I love the Lab's amber-focused scents and this is no exception. I definitely detect labdanum at first. There's also a sweet, vanillic amber note that isn't as high-pitched as white amber, and a hint of almost-spice? IMO this is similar to The Lion but softer, less spicy, and more "golden brown" than pure gold. There's also a cashmere quality to this, like a soft scarf or blanket you'd wrap up in on a chilly day (with a warm spiced chai beside). Very cozy; very purring cat.

Osmanthus, Benzoin, and Bourbon Vanilla
feyofthefellwood replied to Seajewel's topic in Duets & Menage A Trois
The gorgeous osmanthus/vanilla combo reminds me of Like the Very Gods, though this is simpler. The osmanthus is so pretty and cheerful, with an almost peachy smell at times. I think the benzoin is adding a nice sweet resin to the base, but it's not that strong. The only downside to this scent is that it doesn't have a lot of throw or longevity, though I'm hopeful that the vanilla and benzoin will gain a little oomph with age.- 7 replies

I'm sure I'll be reaching for this a lot. It's smooth, creamy, and lightly sweet, with just a hint of golden musk (one of my favorite musks!), mallow, and amber. Pretty and inoffensive, so I think it will be a great work scent. (Also, I unintentionally layered this with Cat at the Table, and it's a great combination).

A gorgeous white tea scent backed by woods and a hint of fuzzy grey amber and vanilla. I'm picky about oud, but this one is lovely and will likely get better and better as it ages.

Reposting this from the testing thread. Enagismata is really smooth and pretty, light and creamy. The goat milk and wine give it a little tang, the myrrh is elegant, and the honey is mild and sweet. It's almost in a similar scent family to Dragon's Milk and Cockaigne IMO, but far less sugared than both, less foody than Cockaigne, less incensey than Dragon's Milk. And at least fresh from the mail, it has less throw than those scents. Be aware I have a fondness for goat milk notes and if that isn't your thing, this blend will probably *not* change your mind! Now I wish I could afford all the Greek funerary scents.

anything that reminds you of an antique or bjd doll

I think Fleece Skeleton Onesie is a great choice for this! Although Zorya P (Pale amber and ambergris, gossamer vanilla, moonflower, and white tobacco petals) doesn't have a porcelain note, it was very close to Pediophobia when I compared the two. It's a nice dreamy, perfumey vanilla. I'm not sure if it's in stock at the moment, but it usually isn't too hard to find on the market if it isn't. I might also recommend Snow White (A chilly , bright perfume: flurries of virgin snow, crisp winter wind and the faintest breath of night-blooming flowers) or one of its variations; it's a lovely "cold" scent that isn't minty. -
I think this is the most spicy BPAL I've tried yet! I can almost feel the heat in my throat on a deep sniff. Sweet, dry, spicy goodness. It really smells like an olfactory conflagration; very fire element coded. The patchouli is, to my nose, the same sweet patch as in Silky Bat. I wouldn't recommend to those sensitive to cinnamon, but this is really lovely if you like spice! Edit: the dry-down almost gives me a gorgeous dry tobacco note association; not sure if that's because of something in the blend or my brain associating the clove with Clove Cigarette? Either way, yum.

Coffee Bean, Jasmin Sambac, and Vanilla
feyofthefellwood replied to Seajewel's topic in Duets & Menage A Trois
It's funny how we all pick up on different parts of scents! I get a sweet, heady but non-indolic jasmine sambac with airy vanilla. The coffee is kind of present at the beginning but quickly fades on me. Jasmine dominates overall, as it is wont to do. I really like jasmine + vanilla, so this is a win for me. -
I meant to review this a while ago, oops. This is one of those blends that's just really *pretty;* sparkly and glowing and elegant. Perfumey, but understated. It makes me think of glittering motes dancing in rays of sunlight. The pear blossoms combined with the other notes makes this smell like cream soda on the dry down, to me.

Sampling my sister's bottle. This is creamy, soft, and pretty. Definitely in the same family as Vision of the Courtesan (though this doesn't have the dazzling tobacco flower and is instead more down to earth) and Hymn to St Brigid.

Chaos Theory V: Recursive Self-Similarity v2
feyofthefellwood replied to dawndie's topic in Limited Editions
I purchased my bottle from Etsy as well. The label is hard to make out; the number might be CDXXX? but it's pretty faded. To me, this smells like O + frankincense and maybe a little mint or absinthe? Definitely a nice strong, almost piney frankincense though, which I like. It smooths down to amber/vanilla/honey after a while on the skin, though it isn't as sweet as regular O. I'm really happy that I got this combination. -
Purslane, Dandelions, and Petrichor
feyofthefellwood replied to Seajewel's topic in Duets & Menage A Trois
So far, this scent, to me, is green and bitter. I get a hint of a nice petrichor-ish note now and then, but overall this is too bitter for me (maybe the purslane note?). I'm going to let it age a bit and see if it smooths out. I adore Summer Rain and the "Lightning Strikes" rainy scents, and Death Cap for an earthy petrichor, so maybe I just prefer a hint of sweetness with my rain.- 5 replies

I was able to snag a 2008 bottle off Etsy, even though I told myself "you have so much vanilla mint already!" But ahhh, this is all about the vanilla to me. It's a rich, dark, aged, bakery type vanilla, with maybe a hint of cake or coconut? There is mint, just adding a bit of cold freshness, but it doesn't take over. It smells like it should be edible <insert disclaimers about not tasting perfume here>.

This reminds me of Tombeur, not necessarily because they share a lot of notes, but just in the general feel. They are both musk-heavy, with an underlying sweetness and texture that invites you to nuzzle and huff. This is a heady, sensual musk, with a velvety vetiver undertone. The black amber adds just the right amount of alluring sweetness. The charred sandalwood is complemented by the rosemary; together, they add a pleasant woody backdrop.

Gorgeous, soft, herbal, almost amber-ish lavender. As others have noted, it does fade quickly into a light skin scent. It would be nice if aging gives it a bit more oomph, but I still love it regardless.

If you think you'd love this, you probably will. As starbrow noted, this is definitely a morpher, but each stage is lovely. Wet, the scent opens with the licorice root, which is more herbal than gourmand, but that fades into the gorgeous black amber (one of my favorite notes). The black amber is sweet and melds with the patchouli and incense in a way that makes me think of crushed black velvet. The incense takes the stage next; I can't tell if it's a soft frankincense or myrrh or a blend of both, but it's smooth and elegant. On me, the patchouli emerges last (though I'm sure it's actually there the whole time, just blending with the other notes!). It gives the overall scent depth and a pleasant earthiness. I put this one last night, and this morning I still smell hints of amber-sweetened incense and patchouli. The overall scent doesn't have a ton of throw on me (at least at this point), but its staying power is impressive. This is a perfect olfactory equivalent of a corvid feather, all liquid darkness and iridescent sheen.

I decided to snag a last minute bottle of this, after neglecting to get a decant because I thought it would be too similar to other hazelnutty scents I already have. And . . . dang, I really like this. This is a wonderful blend of contrasting creaminess, woods, sugar, soft incense, and ink. The hazelnut is there but it doesn't overwhelm. I've been really enjoying the Lab's ink notes lately and this is another good one. This one reminds me a little of ballpoint ink, but fruitier (though I don't think there's a fruit note per se, it's just sweetened by the bourbon cream).
-
This is really nice! All the notes are quite well blended. I get some citrus from the grapefruit and honeysuckle, some earthiness from the sandalwood, coconut milk, and lavender. This is fresh from the mail, but so far I do not find this very floral or rose-y. It's smooth and sheer (more of a skin scent) and seems like it will be wonderful for summer. I'll try to update if/when this changes after some rest, but so far, I'm really pleased with it and don't have anything quite like it in my collection.
-
This is so weirdly addictive to me! The pine ink note is almost petrichor ish to my nose at first (I LOVE this stage), but as the scent dries down the green tea dominates. I find this scent soothing and meditative and can see myself reaching for it a lot before bed or just when I need a calming scent. Glad I went for a bottle. Edit: I really hope this pine/ink note shows up in more things, I love it so much! I'm going to have to get a backup of this. 💚

White Chocolate, Mysore Sandalwood, and Lemon Peel
feyofthefellwood replied to Seajewel's topic in Lupercalia
Really lovely Mysore sandalwood here! The scent starts off with a lot of sweet white chocolate, on me, but the sandalwood becomes the dominant note as it dries down. The lemon just adds a bit of citrusy brightness to tone down the chocolate. It reminds me a bit of Like a Girl, but sweeter and creamier.- 9 replies
