    Flickering Lights, Fluttering Curtains

When I first applied this, I worried I was anosmic to it, but the vanilla blossomed as it warmed on the skin. This is a cool, ethereal vanilla for sure, and somehow there really is a sense of a breeze in it. I detect the linen, chamomile, and cognac, but mostly this is about that floaty vanilla once it warms up. I haven't actually tried many of the Laces, but this does remind me of Antique Lace and, to an extent, The Girl, though The Girl is more ambery. Overall, this is an elegant, understated vanilla perfume that manages to be airy and chilly.

ISO suggestions for a LARP Character

I second Whip (black leather and damp red rose) and Streets of Detroit (Black musk accord, Ethiopian myrrh, and motor oil). There's also Rogue (Soft, well-worn black leather, hemp, and rosin) and Liz (A light, feminine vanilla floral perfume and a swirl of smoke and leather), although that one is pretty smoky to me rather than sweet. Of those, Whip and Rogue are impable (and both are lovely!). From the new Liliths, there's also Baby's First Chainsaw (Chainsaw grease and chocolate chip cookies), although I'm not sure if that's the vibe you're going for. I really like the Lab's motor oil/chainsaw grease type notes.

    Sour Lemon Smut

Sampled my sister's bottle. This smells like sour lemon with a bunch of sugar sprinkled all over it. The musk gives it a playful twist and some interesting depth beyond the lemon sugar vibe. So, overall, very sexy lemon candy. I smelled this when it first arrived in the mail and again today, and the scent has definitely gotten even better with rest, so I'm sure this, like all the Smut scents, will age beautifully.

    Sentence First, Verdict Afterwards

When I first tried this I wasn't that keen on it, but it has really grown on me. The rose and clove are pretty equal and not super strong on me, at least compared to scents featuring those notes like The Rose or Clove Cigarette. I think what I like about it is there's a dark undercurrent to my nose, maybe from the tobacco flower or blood notes? It makes me think of the hundred-year-old wall of thorns from Sleeping Beauty or something; pretty roses on the surface, thorns underneath. It's a subtle scent, at least on my skin, but has decent longevity.

    The Choirs of Angels

I'm seconding that this one is totally gorgeous. I love frankincense and the three franks in this make it so resonant and golden . . . it's like if sunlight had a smell. The other notes give it depth but don't overwhelm the frankincense.

    Falling Leaves Moon 2020

Spicy dead leaves + fuzzy ambergris. This reminds me of Autumn Overlooked My Knitting, but with more going on, and the green-ness and spices stick around longer than the leaves in Autumn Overlooked. It's interesting, but I think my decant will be more than enough for me.

    You Are Not Alone

I really love this and will need a bottle. It opens with a sweet, perfumey lavender and dries down to the scent of old paperback pages. The paper scent reminds me a little of a very dry sandalwood or even oud, but so light. It brings me back to being around the age Lilith is now, reading paperback fantasy novels that my parents probably wouldn't have approved of. So nostalgic and cozy.

    Life, the Sculptor, Moulds Unceasingly

This is clarifying and soothing. I wasn't sure if if was digging the tulsi at first, but the scent as a whole has really grown on me. This smells green and herbal when wet, but it dries down to this sort of dusty earth smell that I really like. It makes me miss the desert. I'll have to try more things with mitti attar in the future.

    Harvest moon 2020

I don't think Harvest Moon is released every year, unfortunately (but someone correct me if I'm wrong!), and it doesn't always have the same notes (I think there was a version a while ago that had roses or something?). Edit: I just checked (googled BPAL Harvest Moon btw, if that helps!) and yeah, most of the Harvest Moons are similar to the one this year, but 2013 had roses.

    Harvest moon 2020

I really love Harvest Moon 2020 too! Other scents that I find similar, although not quite the same, are Samhain (Truly the scent of autumn itself — damp woods, fir needle, and black patchouli with the gentlest touches of warm pumpkin, clove, nutmeg, allspice, green cardamom, sweet red apple and mullein), which is available with the recently released Halloween collection, as it returns every year; and Gluwein (Warm red wine spiced with cinnamon sticks, cardamom, vanilla beans, clove, lemon and orange rind, bay leaf, and honey), which often shows up in the Yule (winter) collection (though I'm not sure if it returns every year). Samhain is definitely more woodsy, while Gluwein is like mulled wine.

Winter and Yule in the GC

Ranger and Elf both have that lovely evergreen thing going on. I know Elf has florals and more spring/summer notes, but to me the aspen leaves give it a coolness that makes it fit in with winter scents for me, too. Dana O'Shee also has a cool, creamy marzipan vibe.

    2020 Aesthetic

Sampled my sister's decant. Unfortunately, raspberry notes from any house I've tried always turn artificial on my skin, and this is no exception. I don't really get any of the other notes, just this sugar-free raspberry kind of smell. At least my sister's skin chemistry treats raspberry better than mine!

    Honey Taffy Smut

This is soooo delicious! A dark, sugary honey musk that smells tantalizingly edible. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a lot of throw or staying power on my skin at the moment. However, given that the decant of Smut I got with the latest Lupers has strengthened a lot in the last half year or so, I fully expect that this will gain more power and beauty with age.

    Honeyed Apple

2020 version. I can see why this one is so beloved. I love honey in perfume, and I like apple, and together they are gorgeous. To me, the apple smells tart and green, which makes the sweetness of the honey complement it wonderfully. This isn't a complex scent, but the notes sort of . . . dance around each other, if that makes sense; sometimes my nose gets more honey, sometimes more apple. It has a shimmering quality. I might have to get a back up bottle.

A Cozy Sweater and an Apple Cider

This was faint at first, but the scent is stronger after a day or so of rest, so I'm sure it will only get better! It's that same cozy, fuzzy fabric note as in Cozy Pumpkin Sweater and Cafe Au Lait and a Wool Blanket, but paired with golden, delicately spiced apple cider. Low-ish throw, smells elegant, and probably wouldn't offend people in a work setting. If anyone asked, you could just pretend you have really fabulous detergent.

    Dark Chocolate Pumpkin Pie

This is super delicious and very much in line with the Beaver Moons. The chocolate crust is strongest at first, then I get the creamy pumpkin cheesecake, and then some spices come out as it dries down further. Quite realistic smelling.

A Night In the French Quarter

Rainy florals. Like if you were standing in a flower garden in the rain, and all the petals are soaked. This definitely doesn't have the dryer sheet/white floral/citrus tendency that some rain scents have to me; it's very gentle and subdued. There's a hint of petrichor but it's not an earthy smell. The plum isn't too fruity, the frankincense and benzoin blend into the other notes. This is more comforting than I expected and very atmospheric.

    Waiting

On me, I'm mostly getting pumpkin waffles, but I'm not complaining. There isn't much spice or coffee, to my nose, just a fluffy golden waffle smell. I can smell the coffee in the background if I look for it. This brings back good memories, so I'll definitely hold onto my decant. ❤️

    Loaf

This is just as unique and cozy as I'd hoped. Initially, it smells like sourdough bread to me, but then the delicious herbs start coming through. I definitely smell the caraway and rye, which seem to hide the rosemary. Maybe that will come through more as it ages. There's a little salt and butter if I look for it, but on my skin, it's mostly about the herbs and dough. I probably only need my decant, but I'm happy to have this for the novelty and comfort.

    Perfectly Normal Childhood

This is sugared cardamom and vanilla marshmallows; would definitely recommend to anyone who likes these notes! I love this combination, but it might be too close to Pink Lovebird, which I have a bottle of, to upgrade my decant. I'll have to compare them directly at some point. The floofy marshmallow is a really nice addition to this type of scent composition, though.

    Baby’s First Chainsaw

I kind of love this? This opens with a sharp grease note, which quickly blends into a slightly-burnt chocolate chip cookie smell. It smells like when I put cookies in the oven and later the scent of them wafts through the house and I think, "oh, that smells good . . . I forgot about my cookies! They're going to be crispy!" It softens as it wears until it's kind of like a chocolate chip cookie skin scent. Cookie musk. I'm actually tempted to get a bottle, sigh.

    Lan Yueliang

I echo that this is beautiful, wow! I, uh, considered buying this for someone as a gift . . . but I'm keeping this bottle, sorry. ? White tea can be hit or miss for me, but the blueberry and citrus notes complement it perfectly here. The blueberry does its top-note thing, starting off juicy before fading, but I can still smell a hint of it a couple hours later. Maybe the citrus helps anchor that fruit aspect. So, white tea with blueberries and lemon, but perfumified. It's cool, elegant, and feels sophisticated but grounded. I look forward to wearing it on days when I need a little serenity.

    Thorns Clove Cigarette

When I first got this, it smelled mostly like clove (albeit a very nice clove, smooth and dark rather than potpourri-like). But I'm noticing the tobacco emerging more as it ages, and I'm really liking the tobacco note (which is pipe-tobacco-ish IMO) with the clove. I've never smelled a clove cigarette, so I don't have the nostalgia factor, but I like this scent for what it is: a warm, autumnal clove with tobacco. This would be lovely layered with a leather note . . .

    Snow Scents!

I love Snow White so much. Anything with that snow note is wonderful too, like Frostbitten TKO. I like some of the piney snow scents too. I recently got a frottle of Snow Bunny from the lab and am enjoying it. It's kind of like a more citrusy, less piney Skadi.

    Étienne De Boray Oak

This smells just like an ancient oak tree heavy with hanging moss: the rough bark, green leaves, and gnarled roots intertwined with little pale mushrooms. It's a very green, mossy, and oak-y scent. The honey has a bit of a funk to it in the state between wet and dry, but it dries to a lightly sweet sheen overlying the mossiness. If you want to smell like an oak dryad, this is the scent for that. I don't know if I will reach for it enough to use up my entire bottle, but I've been enjoying it for those times when I want to feel like I'm relaxing in a primordial forest.
