Full disclosure I bought this to use as hair gloss/oil because the notes were too good to pass up. this stuff smells AMAZING. Right off the bat it’s very cherry/cardamom/clove forward. After a couple hours it transitions to a more well rounded scent. Medium throw, I tend to apply it twice in a day Like with my hair gloss I apply it to my palms and then run it through the ends of my hair while it’s still wet (as my hair can get very weighed down by the gloss if I spray it on directly.)

I’ve had this imp for ages and am only now just trying it. in imp: super strong black leather with a touch of nag champa right at the end. wet: straight nag champa which I’m absolutely loving. dry (20 mins): same as above, let’s see if it morphs throughout the day

Café Mille et une Nuits
lipstickonmyteeth92 replied to boomtownrat's topic in Only Lovers Left Alive
I smell like I'm hanging out in a super cool café. It's this enveloping dark coffee with cinnamon and this dark caramel/cardamom/spice. And underneath it all there's a very sweet, rich shisha/tobacco undertone. It's *so* fantastic -
In bottle: Really hard to pick out individual notes here, it smells very astringent, much like an over steeped cup of black tea with honey. I think there's some leather? Wet on skin: Black tea with a hint of cocoa, it has a soft chocolate edge to it at this point. Dry, after about twenty minutes: Hard to describe. It's very soft and warm, barely there and I can't pick up the individual notes it's like it's disappeared After an hour: Alas it's gone! I'll try it again once it's settled for a few weeks. A few months later... Trying this again! A very strong cup of black tea backed by dark brown leather and a sort of cocoa powder chocolate note. It's nice, very cozy! I wish it were a touch sweeter, I'd wear it more if it were.

Straight out of the mailbox because I was so excited: In bottle: Mmm toasty! A toasted chocolately note and I can detect some resins swirling around in there Wet on skin: I can get a slight green/spicy note from the cardamom and there's a gorgeous sugared/vanilla rooty patch in the background Dry: I mostly get cocoa overtop of a vanilla/patchouli toasty scent with hints of the cardamom and brown sugar in the background. It's so beautiful and warm but, spicy and dark at the same time. Exactly what I was hoping for!

In bottle: Pomegranate juice, very sweet On skin: Juicy pom with a veil of incense, a light smokiness to it.

So excited to finally have another lace in my collection, I was bit worried about this one since pine is a note that doesn't always work on me. In bottle: It smells hot and sweet, I kind of get a bloody vanilla vibe from it with a hint of pine Wet on skin: Mmmm...this is delicious. Soil stained vanilla/tobacco and rose with a stunning pine/red musk underneath, this is fucking gorgeous. Dry on skin (after about an hour): Oh this is absolutely stunning! Rose/tobacco rounded out with a dark incense musk/blood sugar-spun lace undertone. I wanted a perfume reminiscent of The Company of Wolves, the movie and short story both, and damn, I got it. All the better to eat you with. The girl burst out laughing, she knew she was nobody's meat.

As sweet as death, as deep as the grave: pomegranate, raspberry, gardenia, plum, and rose with patchouli, black pepper, rose musk, and a hint of blood accord. I managed to snag a half bottle of this a few years ago and I finally have it! I've been very excited to try this one out. In bottle: Pomegranate and red fruit, sweet. There's also the darkness of the plum and I get the iron blood note and pepper Wet on skin: Musty, I think I'm amping the gardenia/rose. It's like opening a grave and there being some dried flowers still entwined in the corpses' hands. But it's not a powdery musty smell, it's darkened by the fruit and patchouli in a really lovely way. Similar to Mme. Moriarty but less intense. More refined? Dry on skin (after about two hours): It's practically gone at this point, there's a faint whiff of this dark fruity floral-ness. I think I'll have to let this sit in the dark a while as at this point I'm not sure about it even though these are all notes that I should amp.

Mournful and Never-ending Remembrance: shining, moonlit ebony musk with benzoin, myrrh, smoky vanilla, patchouli, nutmeg, and dried red chili. Straight out of the mailbox because I couldn't resist finally having the last five bottles of my collection with me at last! In bottle: Dark and spicy, can't pick out any individual notes Wet on skin: Ohh this is gorgeous! The red chili is quite prominent and then I get the patch/smoky vanilla/ and nutmeg underneath. It's really lovely, quite spicy and soft at the same time Dry after about an hour: Red chili is super prominent still (which is exactly what I was hoping for) and it's rounded out with this sweet smoky musk scent that doesn't enable me to pick out many individual notes but it's amazing! I love this so much more than I thought I would, it kind of reminds me of the smokiness of Dalliance with an Amorous Bat Demon but far less sweet and sharp.

Dried Strawberries, Red Musk & Bourbon Vanilla
lipstickonmyteeth92 replied to zankoku_zen's topic in Duets & Menage A Trois
Okay so this is straight out of the mailbox because I was excited. In bottle: It sort of reminds me of my strawberry shortcake ragdoll that I had when I was a kid but a bit jucier. A strawberry/vanilla scent. Wet on skin: Strawberry candy. But, that disappears quickly and is replaced by a fresh strawberry scent (like you've just chopped up a bunch of strawberries and the juice is running down your hands so you lick it off) Dry on skin (after about an hour and a half): Helloo teenage goth strawberry shortcake! This is super vampy, I agree with starbrow's review 100%. Slutty, spicy/sweet vanilla musk with an amazing summery super juicy strawberry note. This is my new summer perfume, it's playful and heady, exactly what I was hoping for. -
*Straight out of the mailbox because I couldn't wait, I was so excited to try this one! In bottle: Toasty and smokey, can't really pick out any notes Wet, on skin: I can a hint of the scorched milkiness and it fades pretty quickly into what I assume the OG snake oil is (though I've never tried it) it's got a lovely vegetal musk bite to it at this stage Dry, on skin (about five minutes): Light snake oil a with a faint caramel-esque scorched sugar-ness about it that will be great. Hopefully this comes out more as the day goes on. Of course, the bottle will have to settle for a while. Dry (after a few hours): Oh there we go, the scorched milk note is out in full force now, the comparison to crème brûlée is spot on with the snake oil musk/patch in the background. This is really fantastic! Methinks this will age beautifully

Red musk and cacao with clove, caramelized tobacco, aged patchouli, red currant, black leather, and vanilla-infused amber. I lucked out in adding this to my ISO's and immediately found a bottle! Very excited to try this one: In bottle: Chocolate and tobacco, chewy. It smells delicious, I think this is the most I've liked a scent in bottle. (can we petition for more cocoa/tobacco scents because oh my godddssss.) Wet on skin: Cocoa and a light tobacco scent, the currant comes out adding a red fruitiness to it, it's very sweet at this stage Dry on skin: I tend to amp currant like crazy and it and the tobacco are the most prominent at first, the patchouli and clove are just behind. As the day goes on the currant takes a background and other notes come out a bit more and blend very nicely so it ends up being this dark, sweet (but not sugary or foodie), cozy scent that's also incredibly sexy. It settles into a tobacco/cocoa-vanilla/patch-leather blend. (*the clove is there but it's very much a background note)

Dalliance with an Amorous Bat Demon
lipstickonmyteeth92 replied to zankoku_zen's topic in Lupercalia
In bottle: A super gnarly patch Wet on skin: Oh wow I am amping the benzoin and sandalwood. I really hope this calms down as it's very sharp and resinous right now, the patchouli is pretty gnarly in the background. It's pretty powdery too which I'm really not loving. Dry (after about two hours): It's settled into a really lovely earthy, smokey, patchouli encompassed by a soft resin sweetness. It's like a dusky sweet scent. Very happy with it now! It's a lot lighter than I had thought it would be. -
Dragon-Smooched Snake Oil
lipstickonmyteeth92 replied to Deceitfuldescender's topic in Retail Exclusive Oils
*Fresh out of the mailbox In bottle: I can't pick out any notes. It smells sweet and earthy Wet on skin: A very earthy/rooty patchouli and snake oil, I can get a slight whiff of honey and resin. Dry (after about two hours): Ohh. see THIS is why I knew I'd be fine to blind swap this, it's exactly what I was hoping for! It's super earthy and has a gorgeous honeyed sweetness to it and the dragon's blood just envelops the whole thing. This has shot up to one of my favourite bottles in my collection, I can't wait to see how it ages because I bet it will be sublime -
Ghostly, glowing, sweet and dark: black cherry, patchouli, cassis, cardamom and verbena. This was my first BPAL bottle ever and as my collection has grown this one has kind of gotten lost. I haven't worn in it about a year, I can't believe I've never reviewed it. In bottle: Cherry and spice, very dark and sweet Wet on skin: Blast of cherry and cardamom, the cherry fades into the background and the patchouli and cardamom take centre stage, so it's spiciest here Dry on skin: Cherry rounded out with patchouli and cardamom I really should wear this one more often, it's one of my favourite scents

Pumpkin cream, honey, vanilla sugar, and smoked vanilla bean. A very smooth scent, on me it's mostly honey and smokey vanilla cream with a really subtle pumpkin in the background. It's really lovely, I like that it's not super foodie and it has an incredibly long throw, it's been twelve hours and still going strong.

2015 version So excited to finally try this! In bottle: Dark musk, and oh dear. A very sugary cough syrup. (I'm sure this will morph a bit though) Wet on skin: Sugary musk with a very boozy undertone Dry on skin: Burnt sugar and booze. On the whole it's lighter than anticipated, I expected a much darker overall feel *Dry after a few hours: A very lovely burnt/caramelized sugar musk with boozy undertone scent. It's very pleasant and not as "in your face" as I was expecting, very happy to have snagged a bottle!

Smooth inky musk, cathedral incense, ylang ylang, violet leaf, rose-infused amber, red sandalwood, and iris. In bottle: Musk and floral, with some slight incense in the background Wet on skin: Rose, violet and I think what is the ylang ylang? And there's a shifting, the amber and incense come through a bit more Dry: Sharp and floral one moment, ambery/incense/ a very delicate violet the next I'm not sold on this yet, I may have to let it sit for a bit, but it's very interesting! I had expected something darker, hoping the musk and incense comes through a bit more as the day wears on.

In bottle: Hazelnut and patchouli (Not overpowering in bottle) Wet on skin: Hazelnut, patchouli, and a bit of leather. It already smells cozy Dry: Vanilla, patchouli, a soft leather and red musk. There's a touch of woodiness which adds to the cozy feeling, this is going to be a great winter scent!

(I wasn't sure about this one based on the notes) But oh my gods am I thrilled I got my hands on a bottle. In bottle: Rose, honey, incense. Wet on skin: Rose and spices and woah I just walked into a forest because that moss and yarrow have sprung up out of nowhere. I imagine this will shift quite a bit as the day wears on Dry: This is so complex! It's so well blended, it's rose, milk and honey, with warm spices and the plants. I keep catching flickers of the different notes, I can't wait to see how long it lasts It smells eternal? I can picture Eve in her gold dressing gown laying on her piles of books, this scent feels so evocative of the character and the spaces she inhabits. It's absolutely beautiful.

Arrived yesterday and I was very excited to try it, waited a day so it could sit. In bottle: Rose and hairspray. Eep. Wet on skin: A very soft rose with a sweetness and juiciness. Wilted pink roses are a very accurate description, it's very delicate. I also get a very slight smoke/black lace note. It feels very funereal. (Hoping the frankincense and opoponax come through a bit more) Dry on skin: Sweet, I definitely get the black lace/taffeta note more; it's like a sweet vanilla resin with a light wilted rose. A very pretty scent, much lighter than anything else in my collection. It's quite lovely!

I amp black currant/blackberry like crazy so I had to let this one sit for a bit as it was all black currant cough syrup the first few weeks (barf.) In bottle: Black currant with spices Wet on skin: Black currant and a dark burnt sugar note (the caramel kind of comes through at this stage but it's really drowning in the currant) Dry on skin: Thankfully, the above stage doesn't last very long and it transforms into a beautiful burnt caramel/patchouli woods/cinnamon scent
-
Oh this is as beautiful as I'd hoped it would be! A very fae scent. In Bottle: Tea/honey/vanilla with a touch of blackberry Wet on skin: Bursting blackberries with a hint of leaves (I tend to amp blackberries/blackcurrant for some reason so I expect this will stay fairly prominent) a touch of the spices and musk beneath that Dry on skin: Honey musk (oh this is an amazing note), vanilla, tea. It's very faint but absolutely lovely! This will be a great summer scent but will be wearing it it year round when I want something lighter.

Lydia, oohhh Lydia! She's sweet and DARK. "My whole life is one big dark room" dark. But the dark room is the Countesses' bedchamber in "The Lady of the House of Love" heady with incense and glittering with the pearl tears stitched to the black velvet draped on the walls.

Mme. Moriarty, Misfortune Teller (2015)
lipstickonmyteeth92 replied to Ina Garten Davita's topic in Carnaval Diabolique
I bought this from a seller over four months ago and we assumed it was lost! So happy it showed up unexpectedly. In bottle: The musk and patchouli are strongest, it smells very dark. I hope the fruit note comes out a bit later. Wet on skin: Musk and a general fruitiness, I got a slight whiff of pomegranate and the currant (I tend to amp currant for some reason) and suggestion of plum are hanging out in the background. Dry on skin: Musk/patchouli which is rounded out by a vanilla and dark, juicy, red fruit scent (I'm getting a lot of pomegranate which is a note I adore). It's really beautiful and much less intense than I would have expected, I was thinking it would be more like blood kiss but it's not as heady. This one feels more subtle but it still has a ton of presence. I can't wait to see how this one ages!
