Dead Leaves, Marshmallow, and Pistachio Cream

When I first got this and let it sit for a few days before testing, it was HARSH from the bottle. A little less harsh when wet on skin and wear down, and it was not a great first go at a Dead Leaves blend. I didn't expect this to be so perfumey, it was weird. Perfumey leaves, and it stays that way for a little while before I could get any marshmallow or pistachio or cream. There was a super subtle creaminess but barely there. Fast-forward to now, months and months later, about nine months: Still perfumey leaves but it's mellowed out! It's much less in your face and the marshmallow and cream have come out. A nutty sweetness with the leaves for a gourmand crunchy leaf experience. I'm glad I reluctantly kept this bottle, but I don't know if it'll get all the love it deserves. Decent throw and wear time.

    Black Coffee

This is a delicious black coffee, strong, from the bottle and wet. I want to love this so so much but my skin chemistry betrays me in turning this suuuuuuuuper woody. Like it makes me think of balsa wood. The coffee note becomes so faint that I don't know if I should keep this bottle but I love a good coffee??? I think this may be better off for layering so we'll see if I remember to come back and provide an update on that.

    Ehon Warai Jogo Bath Oil

Oh my GODS, this is delicious and beautiful. I don't use these in the bath, rather after bath or shower... And it's like a fresh peach that then is like a peach drizzled in light honey. The cream keeps it from being too sweet, and at least on me is more of a background note. Very peach forward. I would hoard this if I could. It lasts without being headache-inducing or entering a room before me, so bonus points! Next is to compare this to Egoyomi which I already love at first sniff.
  4. Original comment thread for record-keeping. Action figures? I'm a little picky but I'm game to be surprised! DVDs? Meh, but if it'll meet my criteria, it's fair game. Buffy, Farscape? Pass on both. Eyeshadow palettes that have been properly sanitized? I'm game! I'd end up sanitizing it again once received to be sure. Fruity scents? yay as long as they're not paired with strong florals. My clarifying question: when it comes to bath and body products, do your favorite scents apply or are you more flexible here? I personally LOVE to smell like a snack, i.e. my absolute favorite body butter is from Shea Shea Bakery called Midnight Snack. But, I also like to slather myself in a eucalyptus spearmint blend on super stressful days. I'm a little picky when it comes to florals, but if they're paired with fruits, that's fine for me. I just don't like heady florals. ooooh my profile: I'm medium with neutral to warm undertones which depends on the season. Brown eyes, black brown hair but I do have some front sections that are color treated (orange and blurple). Hair is straight as a pin. My skin is stupid dry and sometimes sensitive because I have eczema - it makes my life difficult at times. Extra things I forgot to add to my questionnaire: Uhm, I can't think of anything in particular but if it helps, I'm kind of like a crow in how I collect and acquire things...lol. Oh, I love cyberpunk things. And Gritty - the NHL Flyers mascot! Do you garden? Any interest in seeds? Ugh, I wish I could! I have to pass on seeds. I'm also just not great with houseplants.... I couldn't keep succulents alive for a full year and I honestly don't know how I managed that. Do you have any aversion to insect/spider themed clothing or other items? ahhh I love bugs! i.e. I have a beetle print dress! How do you feel about cute/novelty adult onesies? I don't hate them but I don't have strong feelings about them either. I mean, I have a footie onesie I got as a Christmas gift one year, but it's only good for really cold winters... I do have a lightweight hooded onesie that I don't wear often if at all... If it fits, I'll try it! Forgotten fandoms? Did you miss any minor ones? Specifically, how do you feel about Crimson Peak? I do not know enough about Crimson Peak to have an opinion on it, but I do dig the aesthetic. Have we talked about art styles? Wall space? I somehow missed this question...but I'll answer it now! I'm a little picky but open to new things, especially for this swap, and sort of short on wall space, but I do rotate my wall art if it fits the space. Chocolate preference? My second question that I answered when I posed it - I love dark chocolate but not opposed to some good milk chocolate. Good with add-ins, I enjoy fruits and almonds. Any interest in hair accoutrements? Barrettes, headbands, etc? Open to cute hair things though not so much scrunchies since I have a bob currently. Any interest in holiday items, like Santa tea towels and the like? Not terribly, only because I don't keep up with the holidays or seasons that well...considering how I just took down my winter themed shower curtain to wash and put away for the season? How about bath and body products samples? Definitely don't mind these though I have a stash myself lol. My Little Pony, yes or no? Eh, no thanks! Anime? Any favorites? Yes! I've enjoyed Attack on Titan, Trigun, just finishing Baki, does Aggretsuko count? lol I was a long time Naruto fan before I couldn't keep up but still enjoy it here and there. Are you into wine? Would you be interested in a book about wine basics or stoppers or other wine related items? I don't mind wine; stoppers would be nice as I do drink on occasion.

    Antique Lace

I snagged a bottle right from the Etsy page out of sheer curiosity of the hype (I have no reference for the OG blend though). It is amazing that you get that antique, old linens smells right from the bottle. Just dusty enough for the feeling, otherwise that vanilla comes through beautifully. It's sweeter than I expected (despite skimming reviews beforehand). I don't quite get florals but there is a touch of powder in the wear down. Not bad. I can see why people find this cozy and comforting. Too strong on the vanilla for me though.

    Blood Squib

I originally knew of this from the SO variation, and was so sad that the rich syrupy cherry note was so short lived. Wet and in the bottle, this is THE deep, rich cherry I LOVE and WANT so bad. Sure, syrupy and kind of candy-like, but my gods I love sniffing it. Sadly, it doesn't last on me. The cherry was short lived but that touch of spice lingers and becomes really the only thing I smell.

    Beaver Moon 2010

I don't mind cheesecake and I love strawberry and peach, so I figured this would be up my alley. Almost. I think it being aged contributed to the sharp plasticky glaze I get at first sniff and in the wet on skin stage...sharp plasticky strawberry heavy "glaze." Super artificial strawberry candy. It's beautiful a few hours later though, blooming into that mostly strawberry, hint of peach, hint of creamy cheesecake, and some of that graham cracker crust. I don't love it for that harsh opener but gods it's delicious once it mellows out, which makes it hard to decide if it's truly a keeper.

    Spirit Fingers

It's very clovey candy, almost like cinnamon hots but sweeter, in the bottle. Wet, it softens a bit on the clove and then reads more bubblegummy to me than cotton candy, with clove. I don't really get the spiciness of the pepper like others (maybe it was all there in the beginning), but I still love this. I only get a few hours of wear from this but I have no problem slathering more on as I need to.
  9. Oh that is so weird! I hope that it will work out far better with the new imp! Body chemistry is like black magic. I'm glad that I replied here because now I've discovered some new-to-me scents that I want to try (though my wallet says no at the moment).

    The Best Lies

I love honey and don't mind rose, so I had to try this. This starts out like powdery rose perfume on me, which makes me a little sad...but like an hour in the honey and sugar start peeking through. Now it's like a lovely rose honey cotton candy. It's low on throw but that's fine - I'm wearing this absolutely for myself all day and straight to bed. This honey note is muskier than I was expecting, which is fine. Overall sweet but not too sweet with soft roses.
  11. I also LOVE Miskatonic Uni! I think your hubby and mom need to get their noses check, lol. So I can't tell if you want scents with all three of those scent notes or a combination of 2 of those or what, but I'll offer what I can based on what I've tried so far. I'd say that Irish Coffee Buttercream is the sweeter cousin of Miskatonic U, minus the wood/paper notes. If you like something a little spicier, Spiced Rum Buttercream Coffee is nice, though I wish the coffee stuck around a little longer. I struggle with getting the coffee note to stay true on me (skin chemistry turns it into something suuuuuuper woody - i.e. I have the Black Coffee from Winter 2020 but it dries down to something that reminds me of balsa wood), but if it's coffee + booze, it's so good. My favorite paperback scent is You Are Not Alone (if you don't mind lavender) since it's like the one book scent that doesn't run leathery in my opinion. Fair warning though if that interests you, it's a very sought after Lilith blend so it may cost a pretty penny if you're able to find someone willing to sell. Polished wood... I haven't dabbled enough in this note, but I do enjoy Antikythera Mechanism and Baby's First Ballista. AM is a little harsh at first (I think thanks to the teakwood), and Ballista is the sweeter cousin to AM. Hopefully someone else may be able to offer more and better recommendations in this one.

    Honey Taffy Smut

Sexy, boozy honey taffy - this and candy apple are my favorite two smut variations. I love a good honey note and this has it, and the muskiness just makes it fantastic. There is a subtle butter note in the dry down that reminds me of the taffy candy. I hate that I didn't realize how much I love it until well after the collection has gone down (didn't quite get my attention when I first sniffed it a few months ago when it arrived) so I'm guessing that it's only going to get better with age.

    Metal Twins

In bottle and wet, it's heavy on the vanilla cake batter with a hint of flan. On wear down through the day, it eases up on the vanilla cake and the custard peeks through every now and again. It eventually is a very vanilla custard, which I found unexpectedly cozy and comforting. Good throw and wear. Happy to have blind bought this!

    Cat Chasing Butterflies

This started off heavy on the floral and amber right behind it on me, which was almost too much and veering into headache territory. It's like a floral blast, but once that dries down, it's so much more tolerable (and likeable). About an hour in the cream starts to come through, and it's just a soft almond for me. I do love the sweet musk once everything settled down. I wonder how this was when it first was made, because I'm reviewing it after it's aged for some time. I like it and am glad to have a bottle.

    Lurid

This is so weird and strange to me, but I love it. It comes off really fruity at first (makes me think of crisp apples) and mellows out on dry down. I thought ozone would be a little more aquatic but I'm not getting that at all here. Lurid is much nicer than what the description leads you to believe. The lavender is there but this reads mostly black currant on me. Does lean a smidge soapy after a while, close to headache inducing territory which makes me sad and think this has good enough throw, lol. I don't think I would have picked this out on my own, so I'm thankful for a friendly gift from a forumite

    Champagne & Maraschino Cherries

This is just delicious in the bottle and when wet: boozy maraschino cherries. I don't get the almond note though, or at least I never noticed it when I wore this out. As it dries down, the champagne becomes the star but it's not as fizzy as I had hoped (my gods do I love it in Bon Vivant). It's really pretty overall. I only wish there was a better balance between the two scent notes.

    Worm Moon 2021

I got a slink of this on a whim because I was curious about the fruits in this one, and I'm really loving it! It's a lot of grapefruit and the pink fruits in the bottle and when wet, the coconut in the background. It dries down to be a tropical earthy scent on me with good throw and wear time. Wondering how this will age...

    Rice Milk & Mango

This is a very fragrant rice milk with hint of mango. In the bottle and wet on skin, the mango is so juicy and I wish it'd stick around a little longer. The rice milk stays creamy and mild. Good throw and wear.

    Honey, Bordeaux, and Red Roses

I'm learning that honey has so many facets to it... Here it's light and has some additional sweetness from the wine note. The red roses are subtle. Overall, I wasn't sure that I was going to like it and I'm coming around to it after wearing it all day. It just doesn't last all day. I have to go sniffing for it after a few hours in, but it's still there. March 2023 update because I had briefly forgot that I have it: This has aged beautifully but I don't know if it's a bottle that I can finish on my own. It's now sweeter than I remember when I first tested it, and now the roses and bordeaux are very intermingled. I feel like bougie bish wearing this, like I need hubby to take me out to a fancy wine bar.

It’s All I Have to Bring Today

The reviews for this one had me a little concerned at first while I was waiting for my decant to arrive...but oh my where do I begin. It's a light sweet floral that somehow does feel breezy! I feel so much joy as the wildflowers don't go soapy on me, the honey is just right (not too sweet or floral), and the amber just brings it together, I think. It does wear closer to the skin, but can go farther when I slather it on. It lasts through most of my day, so I'm going to go ahead and grab a bottle while I can.

    Banana Cream Pie

This still one of my favorite TP blind buys when I didn't know what works and doesn't work on me, and thankfully this one stays pretty well on me. In bottle and wet, it's a delicious banana cream, some buttery pie crust. Maybe it's a little like banana candy, but it definitely reminds me of the box banana pudding mix. Dry and wear down was a little disappointing since the banana fades fast, so it becomes predominantly buttery pie crust on me. Hint of sweetness. The creaminess only lasts through half of my day, but I'm happy to have a bottle of this. Might just need a banana SN to layer it with.

    Cacao and Sugared Roses

This is gorgeous and I'm just thrilled that the sugared roses stayed true instead of becoming soapy or powdery on me! Sweet and very feminine, this is such a lovely fresh rose. I'd agree with the previous reviews that this would be a pink rose. Good throw, lasts through most of a day for me. This will be a delightful addition to my collection!

    Juke Joint

I never really bothered with this one because after some...times with bourbon shortly after I graduated college, the smell alone usually made my stomach churn. However I was generously gifted a large box of imps, and this was one of them. I am pleasantly surprised! I love this mint julep! The bourbon doesn't have that twinge that makes me sick, and the mint is SO refreshing, sugar isn't too sweet. It does wear down to be a little powdery, which usually isn't my thing but I'm really digging this. Not drink-like at this point but still nice.

    Gingerbread Mummy

I blind bought three of these gingerbread monsters and this one is probably the most gingerbread one of the three...and looks like the most gingerbread of them all for this round. It's delicious but is more like vanilla and marshmallow over warm gingerbread with a buttery undertone. It's smooth, creamy, spicy, and the white sandalwood? I don't detect it but it might be what rounds out this scent. Compared to the other two I have, Wolfman and Zombie, this one doesn't wear down to something super woody despite having white sandalwood listed (maybe it's just my skin chemistry). It's unfortunate that this one has so little staying power (approx. 3 hours at best on me) because it's so good. Update after retesting again in Sept 2023: what in the fuck, man. I get some spicy ginger but then there's something musty to it????? HOW. WHY. I DON'T UNDERSTAND. It still has that buttery opening from the bottle, and eventually dries down to that vanilla cream/marshmallow, but musty in between. I've never felt so betrayed.

    Croquet

I had mixed feelings just reading the notes of this one because I was intrigued by the hedgehog musk and skeptical of the woody patchouli (my nose is rarely a fan of it). This opens up as a very citrus forward blend, the nectarine hanging out in the back. Very bright, lovely. It then fades into a rosy sage blend, and becomes soapy on me. Very bergamot and rose soapy. I really like it during the wet stage more than anything, so I don't think this is a blend for me. Happy to have tried this but gonna rehome this imp.
