    Bright Red Dildo

Didn’t touch this one much when I first bought it because it seemed like it would take some time to settle into its full complexity. After about 8 months of resting my 2021 bottle, I decided to make this my V-day scent this year and wow! The leather has now fully come out to play. Pure, sexy, musky leathery honey, and lasts all freaking day. When I huff my wrist the red musk/leather combo almost reminds me of my beloved Funnel of Love when I first got it. ❤️ Wear it when you need a dose of powerful domme energy ❤️

    Sugar Cookie Cathedral

Mmm. In the bottle I was afraid this would be too foodie/sweet for my taste, but almost as soon as it’s applied the sugar cookie is subtly balanced by incensey goodness. This blend is cozy, sultry, and sweet. Exactly what I was hoping for!

    Gingerbread Campfire

Definitely pick this up if you missed out on Dead Leaves on Fire! It’s that same intense smokiness, with some added spice from the gingerbread. The gingerbread comes out gently over time, but definitely never announces itself loudly. We’ll see how this ages!

On Wednesday, I Will Promise You a Phantom

My goodness this is so gorgeous. Happy to have added this to my lavender collection. Though to be fair, the lavender slinks off to the background really quickly, leaving a waft of musky, warm, vanillic myrrh. When I smell it up close to the skin, I get all the lovely florals. I took a chance on this one and so glad I did! I try to wear a different scent every day, but I can’t stop thinking about this one and dying to put it on.

Dead Leaves, Leather, and Pink Pepper

All familiar dead leaves for me right now, the kind that some find cologne-y. Not unpleasant, just not different from others I have. Will try it again after a month or two more.

Through the Night Strange Music Went

This has become a favorite of the Weenies I ordered this year. I expected a much more discordant scent based on the description, but it really settles into something gorgeously incense-y and dark that reminds me a lot of Snaky Hair’d Moirai. Like A LOT. Apple and lemon peel sweetly peek through for a short while but quickly fall away for me, snuffed out by the indigo musk, myrrh and tobacco. I find this very sexy and mysterious, yet comforting.

    Dead Leaves, Moss, and Mushrooms

It’s been several months since I’ve worn this one, and I forgot how interesting it is! It is earthy and green, dirty and fresh, natural and perfumey, all at the same time. I find it to be so pleasantly creepy, solemn, dignified. (Was getting ready while watching Ask a Mortician videos this morning and this was the scent I chose, if that says anything.) It’s somewhat masculine, but not overwhelmingly so. It’s like what a woodland elf king would smell like.

    The Queen of May

Very brightly floral, like cracked flower stems, on first application. On the the skin it really blooms and I believe the white musk adds depth and sweetness. It’s very pretty, although reminiscent of funeral flowers when sniffed in the bottle. I bought this one last minute after originally opting for two others from the Spiritus collab (Osculum Infame and Hexentanz). I’m glad I picked it up, as I believe this one is, surprisingly, my favorite. This is exactly the kind of floral scent I love.

    The Jersey Devil

Not getting much pine here. Very sweet and earthy at the same time, and strangely, seems perfect both for summer and for Christmas time! Probably won’t upgrade to a bottle just because it faded so quickly on me, and now when I sniff my arm the fruit notes have gone vaguely plasticky. It is very nice, though.

    Sed Non Satiata

My initial thought was that this is a soft, whispery scent like a cool breath. Vaguely pleasant, but didn’t leave much of an impression. Now, this has gone straight soapy baby powder on me, as geranium is wont to do. Was hopeful about all the other notes, but it took two minutes flat to go wrong on me. Don’t smell any musk or honey or patchouli, unfortunately. Edit: An hour later, much muskier and alas, a hint of honey!

    Pumpkin Smut

Quite yummy, spicy, and straightforward. For me, it starts out overtly pumpkin spice, then dries down into boozy, Smutty musk, close to the skin with not much pumpkin left. Hoping it will last longer on my skin after a bit more aging!

    A-Rovin'

Wow! This is one sexy scent, perfect for summer. I definitely get more honey in the bottle than on the skin, where a lusty, heady jasmine dominates. If I sniff close to the skin I get carnation and smoky leather, and I smell the musk if I think hard. Much closer to the skin than I anticipated, but not without a nice throw. I feel like there’s a gorgeous, delicious, incensey, floral haze around me—one that would make others want to get closer for a more intimate whiff.

Honey, Black Lilies, and Gardenia Petals

The honey in this one is much stickier than the honey in Honey, Mahogany and Incense Smoke, at least to my nose. It’s thick and syrupy and hazy. Agree that it is almost spicy. I wish I smelled the florals a *touch* more strongly, and I wish it stuck around as long for me as it seems to for others, but it is lovely.

    Honey, Mahogany, and Incense Smoke

Oh....my. I still have to finish testing all my Lupers, but I already know this one is a favorite, and I didn’t expect it to be such a stand-out! Honey works well on my skin, and this one is the perfect amount of not-too-sweet. It’s not overbearing at all, and simply functions to sweeten up the wood and smoke in a very well-balanced combination. Just what I like. Seriously, it’s a dream.

    Amoretti LXXV

This is ambery-appley goodness with touches of vanilla and musk. Possibly the fig is making the apple smell extra pulpy and deeper than I’d normally expect apple to be. Gorgeous and juicy and can’t wait for it to age!

    Samhain

2020 Version: For reference, I’ve never had another year of Samhain. When I first got this in the mail, for the first week or two, this was ALL APPLES. But not like crisp fresh apples, more like spicy sweet apple cider. It was nice, but almost astringent, and I wanted more of the other notes to peek out more so I’ve been letting it sit for about three months and gave it another test drive today. AND WOW IS THIS GOOD. It is THE smell of autumn. It’s still spicy and I can smell the apples still, but it’s so much more complex after just a few months. I can smell the leaves and crisp autumn air and the dirt and the clove and the nutmeg. I can only imagine how delicious this will be by actual Samhain this year, and in the years to come.

    Quintessence of Dust

I get mostly sweet, sweet beeswax. It smells old, somehow reminds me of studying in the basement of my university library. It’s a good beeswax blend if you like the Lab’s beeswax/honey, but I will have to keep testing it to see if the complexities come out for me.

    Adam

Adam...... mmmmm mm mmm.... what can I say about Adam that hasn’t been said? It is certainly...unique. Chemically and dusty in the bottle, It’s evocative of an old living room, the furniture still covered in plastic. Smell it a little longer and you might be reminded of drying off after spending a day in the pool, chlorine on skin. At first, I was not brave enough to approach Adam directly. It wasn’t unpleasant, but something about it gave me a slight headache and a vague feeling of nostalgic unease. But on my skin, it completely blooms. The fougere and sandalwood come out to mingle with a warm, worn, SEXY leather, and I can’t stop smelling myself. It lasts at least a day on me. This is an addictive scent that you are forced to get to know in order to love, like a hot but emotionally unavailable guy. I can’t get enough of Adam now, and apparently, he can’t get enough of me either!

    Café Mille et une Nuits

Chewy and syrupy, a little bit spicy, and almost chocolate-y to my nose? The coffee is VERY sweet, not bitter at all. The sweetness, I’m guessing, is coming from the shisha. I love it, and my partner really likes this one in particular, too. Maybe it reminds us of the coffee/hookah shop he used to work at. This is truly a comfort scent—more of a scent experience than a perfume, really. It feels like being snuggled up with a book and coffee in my cozy dream apartment. Guessing this will age very nicely!

    So Below

I wish I were as enthusiastic about this one as so many others seem to be! I think something about the way the amber and coconut mix is not sitting completely right with my nose. It’s not horrible and not unwearable, and the cloying sweetness seems to blend into the background after a while, but I keep trying to understand this one and I think my nose is not cooperating. I definitely don’t get smoky or sexy from this, which is what I was hoping for. It’s growing on me, but not a favorite.

    As Above

To me, this is definitely “daytime Haute Macabre.” The leathery, almondy, vanilla-y oakiness is a winner in both IMO. The differences between the two are not huge (not sure I can tell the difference between black and white patchouli, for example), but this one is a touch lighter/more wearable which I imagine is partially the jasmine’s doing. I actually wish I got more jasmine out of this! And I pretty much always wish I got more patchouli out of everything, so no surprise that that’s true here, too. Still a beautiful scent.

    Belonging to the Darkness

So this might be one of my top 2 or 3 favorites of all the bottles I own. I love patchouli and I like white florals, but the mixture of these is achingly gorgeous. It’s airy and earthy at the same time, with the lightest touch of cologne. It still feels feminine to me, though. This is one of those that makes my eyes roll to the back of my head every time I sniff from the bottle. I can’t really find the right words for how good it is, but I let a friend sniff a bunch of my BPALs recently, and after smelling this one, she immediately whipped out her phone to take a picture of the label. So there you go!

    Haute Macabre

When this one first arrived, it was a headache in a bottle. I don’t like overly sweet, and the almond plus the vanilla was all cherry syrup to my nose. I swore I would hate almond forever and ever and ever, until I let the bottle rest and I changed my mind. I don’t think almond will ever be my *favorite* note, but something about the way this has settled together is just so sexy and gorgeous. I was hoping for patchouli and leather to stand out more, but alas. I find it very femme fatale, and save it for date nights when I want to feel particularly dangerous and desirable. I do find that wearing this with the HM hair gloss makes the woody and leathery aspects stand out more. The hair gloss is certainly a totally different scent experience (I almost like it better), but they mix well together.

    Diadem of Myriad Rays

I find this to be such an orange, uplifting scent, and I’m surprised by how much I like it. I put it on one morning I was having a whole lot of trouble getting out of bed to take on the day, and I do want to credit it for helping me through with brightness and warmth. The scent itself starts out mostly as orange and spices, with the cinnamon being prominent but not overpowering. It reminds me of orange slices mulled in spices and cider, or of this Orange & Spice tea I used to drink in college. The way it fades is what really makes it stand out to me—it becomes this beautiful, warm incense, the perfect mix of frankincense and dragon’s blood. The frankincense is not screechy and astringent the way it sometimes can be on me. Even this incense-y dry down manages to stay bright. The wonderful thing I’ve found about some of these Sphere + Sundry oils is how decadent and beautiful they SMELL while also being so perfect for their stated use. I normally wouldn’t prioritize scent over purpose in a ritual oil, but Diadem of Myriad Rays and others just seem to have the best of both worlds: delicious and powerful.

    Shelley, Byron, and Keats

I took a huge chance on this one because I love how caustic and “suicidally romantic” it sounded. I’m also an English teacher who happened to teach Frankenstein last year and Byron/Keats this year, so it seemed appropriate. On-the-nose, even. “I can pull off a creepy chemically floral,” I told myself. I was wrong, unfortunately. It’s all roses and chemicals to my nose, which is exactly the description, so really, what was I expecting?! I’m discovering that red rose simply does not work on me AT ALL. Beyond that, though there is something so unsettling about this scent in the bottle that I can’t put my finger on, but reminds me of younger years. I’ve convinced myself that it is the exact smell of the formaldehyde or whatever they use to preserve frog and worm specimens for dissection at school. Maybe it smells more like a funeral parlor. I keep promising to give it one or two more tries, but I can’t bring myself to put it on my skin. Not for me, sadly.
