    Implacable Beautiful Tyrant

I feel a bit shocked reading the reviews above, it's like I've got a whole different perfume that's pretty much exactly what the description says. I got a year old decant from a friend and I've never tried the original hair gloss. I get mostly bright, zingy ginger and oudh, and these two are dominating notes from wet phase to the complete drydown. Ginger is very loud. Amber is softening and rounding the ginger and the frank, sweetening the scent only a bit. On my skin this isn't faint at all and I can clearly detect it hours and hours after applying. I like this very much and I hope I could find a full bottle.

    Mary Shelley

Mary Shelley got me at "laudanum". I'm a huge fan of BPAL's deceased Laudanum perfume and I've treated my bottle like a treasure knowing I can never find a new bottle of it. I'm so happy I found Mary Shelley. Compared to Laudanum (nutmeg, sassafras, black poppy and myrrh) Mary Shelley is quite similar but more powdery, slightly sweeter and a little bit more feminine leaning. They are truly siblings, they both are medicinal, mysterious and licorice-like. In MS I get anis, ozone and definitely a hint of Victorian oriental perfume. I'm going to need a full bottle.

    Ded Moroz

2024 version. In the bottle and wet on skin this is like smelling chilly, wintery forest. Green, piney, woody and a bit cool minty. Dry this softens and sweetens a lot as ambers are taking space, turning the scent to the most beautiful evergreen winter wonderland. Ambers are definitely the dominating notes but they come along wonderfully with the piney woods and sage. Overall this is sweet amber and chilly woods with sage. Very beautiful.

    The Kiss of the Sphinx

Joining the choir: this really feels like old BPAL GC perfume. What a joyful feeling. I blind bought The Kiss of the Sphinx mainly because I ADORE the painting, but the notes seemed intriguing as well. In the bottle and wet on skin I get strong whiff of black cherry but it fades literally in seconds, giving space to labdanum, smoked plum resins, musk and myrrh. Dry this reminds me a lot of The Wish (an incense of candied smoked fruits, Oman frankincense, red oud, labdanum absolute, sheer vanilla, patchouli, red musk seed, osmanthus, and datura accord), as they share resinous smoked fruits (I'm sure there's plum in The Wish), labdanum, pathouli and musk. I was a bit worried about the florals but I'm not actually getting any of the tuberose and only a hint of the iris. This is soft, resinous, musky and plummy scent, a bit dark and absolutely beautiful with quite a massive throw.

    Sugar Plum Snake Oil

Absolutely beautiful perfume. I've never tried Bordello but I've been willing to try it for a long long time, but it's nowhere to be found. I'm happy reading that Sugar Plum Snake reminds of it. In my opinion Sugar Plum Snake is a sister scent of Serpent in the Berries. Snake Oil is definitely noticeable with vanilla, musk and spices, a bit medicinal too. I love the medicinal twist, but need to mention that SPS is only a little bit medicinal. Patchouli is more prominent in plum snake than in berry snake. Plum is juicy and fruity, absolutely lovely. I love this.

    Death Adder

Ahhhh this is so good I want to bathe in it. I got my Death Adder last week so it's rested only a brief time but this is exactly what I hoped it to be. Snake Oil, roughed up with some dirty coconut and vetiver. Dry, a bit woody, musky, dark vanilla blend, addictively seducing. It reminds me of very well aged Snake Oil so I'm thrilled to wait how my fresh, baby Death Adder will age.

    Millarca

At first I was going to pass this one, rose isn't my favorite notes but I do like it combined with vanilla. Then I read reviewers comparing this to Pink Snowballs, which is one of my most beloved rose scents, if not the best, so I decided to give Millarca a chance. Millarca does remind me of Pink Snowballs a lot but it's still different enough to allow myself to keep this. Especially as I don't have backup for PS. I get lovely chilly vanilla forward rose and I can find the jammy blackcurrant lurking in the background. This is beautiful, soft scent, definitely romantic but also secretly cool. Absolutely lovely.

    The Wish

I've tested The Wish for a couple of times now but I still struggle to describe it. I can say for sure that I really do like it, it's very beautiful, but it's surprisingly difficult to catch specific notes. It's pretty skin scent on me, there's not much throw. I was also expecting it to be darker and giving gothy/ witchy vibes, but The Wish is light and ethereal. Definitely agree with @Cali about the middle eastern vibes. It's subtly sweet, softly resinous and incense-y. If I try really hard I can detect labdanum, vanilla, oud and frank, but it's more than that. Red musk is noticeable but not dominating - actually it's very soft and balanced. The Wish is elegant and there's something mysterious in it.

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

I got an imp of Solstice Scent's Conjure perfume oil (vanilla, amber, cedar, spices & cauldron smoke) and I think it's very much alike BPAL's Sin (amber, sandalwood, black patchouli and cinnamon). Looking the notes that's not a surprise.

If your top 5 scents are... Then try these!

Hi @omnistraight! It seems we have quite similar taste, I too love Antikythera, Perversion and Sin, and I'm not into aquatics. Actually my taste of perfume has gotten my husband to fell in love with BPAL too I gave him Antikythera Mechanism and after that his collection has evolved quite a lot. I wonder if you would like Port Royal (Spiced rum and ship’s wood mixed with the body-warmed trace of a prostitute’s perfume and a hint of salty sea air on the dry-down). Even there's "salty sea air" mentioned I don't find it aquatic at all. It's a bit spicy, woody and rum is noticeable if not very loud. This is one of my husband's favorites and I really like it on him. Another one I'm thinking is Ian (shaggy leather, sweet rum absolute, and patchouli). Leather isn't too strong in my opinion (I too have mixed feelings with leather). I was going to suggest Troll but sadly it didn't work for you! But maybe Golden Priapus (vanilla and amber with juniper, rosewood and white pine) would work..? I know there's pine but I've found it quite subtle in this one. Amber and rosewood are more on top. Oh and Wilde (A sophisticated traditional gentleman’s cologne, with just the slightest taint of patchouli’s passion, tonka bean’s decadence, the philanthropy of bergamot, moss’ cynicism, the sharp wit of lavender, and the hopeless romantic longing of jasmine and thyme)!
  11. Thank you all! Right now I'm feeling I NEED ALL of them
  12. Okay great, this thread is full of lovely suggestions but let's necrobump it a little. Please recommend clove scents that are available now, could you? The thing is, I have mixed feelings to clove. There's many clove-y perfumes I love but there's always the risk clove taking over drowning everything else behind. I like Kobold Barista, The Night Priestess (long gone LE) and Blood. Jack is good but I really can't find any clove in it. This year's Halloweenies includes many many clove scents that I'm intrigued, like Sinister Restlessness, but have not (yet) tried. Any suggestions?

Swapping to Wand Caps or Reducer Caps

I put the old caps in my wardrobe so every time I open it there comes a light whiff of beautiful perfumes. The scent is so slight that it does not stick to clothes. Though if I put ALL of the old caps in the wardrobe maybe it would be stronger, but I like to keep it in moderation

    Laudanum

Reading the reviews it seems, either you hate Laudanum or you love it. There's a lot of reviewers who didn't like it, and I kinda understand them - this is unique, a bit weird and strongly medicinal. And I love it for that. Laudanum is very well blended and it's hard to pick out any specific notes, but let's be honest too: I'm not very familiar with the given notes. It reminds me of liquorice, but it's not only that. It's herbal, mysterious and unisex, if not masculine. It's like dry, medicinal chai spice, with nutmeg and opium, there's also something smoky in it. Myrrh gets stronger when dry and sweetens the scent a bit, but this is not a sweet scent at all. This smells exactly as you would expect something named Laudanum to smell like.

    The Serpent in the Berries

I knew I was going to love this serpent and oh my, I really do. The Serpent in the Berries reminds me of strawberry-flavored antibiotic medicine that I got when I was a child with an ear infection I get all the listed notes. Strawberry, or actually berries in general in this, are synthetic and a bit medicinal. Marshmallow and sugar sweetens the berries and musky Snake Oil is noticeable but subtle, earthy and lightly dark. I bet this is going to age wonderfully.

    O

Is O discontinued and how long it's been out of stock? I've bought my bottle somewhere around 2019 or 2020 and I remember I instantly fell in love with it. Somehow I forgot it for a couple of years and found it now and decided to wear it today. In my opinion O hasn't changed a lot during time. It's still as sweet and soft as earlier, all the notes are balanced and lovely. Sensual amber, honey and vanilla. Only difference is that I think it's somehow a bit dustier now when it's aged a bit. Lovely scent.

    Tomie

I do get the comparisons to Ava, but on my skin Tomie reminds me more of Eve than Ava. I was so sad when Eve didn't work on me and it would be just too unfair if that happened to Tomie, too. But I think we might get along well. Rose is very tricky on me (that was the problem with Eve) and rose tend to amp on my skin, so the rose-tinted sandalwood reads ROSE on me. Wet phase isn't very pleasant with all that rose, almond blossom might be noticeable too. But completely dry this is so much better. Rose softens, sandalwood and vanilla shows up with a hint of white amber. Is there any jasmine? I'm not sure. Dry this isn't so very complex at all. Tomie is white floral and amber, pretty and somewhat mainstream. ETA. Now as Tomie's been resting a bit more I really need to add that she's only getting better and better with time. Rose has mellowed significantly, sandalwood is more clear than before, vanilla is getting stronger and white amber is just lovely. I'm hooked.

    Obergefell V. Hodges

Wet on my skin this reminds me a lot of Delightful Gargantuan Vagina, because mimosa is always loud on me. So, at first this is sweet floral mimosa with a hint of fruitiness. Later the notes balances a bit and I'm getting fig, honey and almond that seems more like almond milk than cream, mimosa is still strong with this one. Jasmine is very, very subtle and in the background. I really can't detect bourbon vanilla at this point. I hope it will get stronger with aging. Definitely a summer/ spring scent. This is sweet, bright, floral and fruity, just what the description says.

    Strawberry Moon 2024

At first, when straight from the mail I was a bit disappointed in this because I was expecting something very dark, strong and sinister based on earlier reviews. But after the bottle rested for a couple of weeks I really learnt to love it. The strawberries, they truly are overripe! A bit sweet and tart strawberries backed with indigo musk, some incense and black tea that add some melancholy and roundness. The cacao is quite strong and bitter when wet (it's like raw cacao mass) but luckily it fades backround after drying, being still noticeable. I think I can detect the laudanum accord but I hope it'll get stronger with age. I agree with VioletChaos in this and I would add this works unbelievable well for quite chilly first days of autumn, too, it's like a memory of the summer. Moody, beautiful and warm.
  20. Ha, what a surprise - on my skin this is very much like toned down Morocco! The sandalwood part is remarkably the same. I love Morocco so this is not a problem. They're definitely different scents, though, but there are some similarities. This is just what the description says: vanilla sandalwood. Very beautiful, warm and comforting. Sandalwood is usually quite loud on my skin and this is not an exception and because of that this is quite a strong perfume on me. Great throw. I bet this is going to age wonderfully.

    Pink Moon 2024

I really don't have much to add on earlier reviews but I'm here to say that this is just as I hoped this would be. This is sweet, fluffy, pink and pretty. Juicy, sugared strawberries with some cream and candies. Simple perfection for those who love sweet candy scents. Perfect summer scent but I'll joyfully wear this through autumnal months, this is just too beautiful not to wear.

    Eve

I really wanted to love Eve, because I do love the movie and Eve's character. But it seems I am the only one whose skin chemistry just don't get along with her. And that actually makes me very sad. Don't get me wrong - there's much I like and I could love this on someone else. Eve is complex and there's so much going on that I find it hard to describe it. I get mostly rose, herbs and incense. Rose is very tricky on me and while there's some scents where rose works beautifully on me, often it goes soapy or kinda sharp or unpleasant. Sadly, I get the unpleasant part of the rose here. Moss is bringing some earthiness. I do get the comparisons to Morocco, there's definitely same spices and sandalwood in Eve. But mostly on my skin I get the rose with honey. I'm going to forget her for a couple of months more and retest then. If she's still roses and honey she shall go to someone who will love her.

    White Cat

To me, White Cat is a true comfort scent. I get all the listed notes and oh my, she's a keeper. Only based on the listed notes I was already sure that this would be instant love, and I wasn't wrong. Wet (and very fresh from the post) I get the lemon amber at first but as soon as it hits the skin all the other notes emerges. Vanilla cream softness with musk and lovely amber and a touch of mallow flower. Dry this is exactly as described. Actually this really reminds me of Haunted but this is more vanilla based. Cozy, fluffy, soft and beautiful.

By Day She Made Herself into a Cat. Sin. Perversion. Vixen. Strong and empowering scents lift me up like there's nothing to worry about.

    The Demonaic

Rose tends to be tricky on me but that's not a problem with The Demonaic as the other notes balances it beautifully. When wet this reminds me of hibiscus tea - it's brisk, almost herbal. This gets darker and more interesting, more complex during drydown. I like resins and labdanum is noticeable. Incense-y kyphi smoke is making this mysterious. On my skin this is not very sweet, I really don't get any honey from the oud. The Demonaic is mystical and dark but not at all heavy.
