Oh, YUM! This smells soooo good! Background: I don't usually like mint scents, but the comparisons to Black Opal had me intrigued. I ordered a bottle of Lick It, and I'm so glad I did! This does, indeed, smell like Black Opal with a mint note. It's a cool, deep, sophisticated mint--not too sharp or medicinal. It even has that dark mineral note that Black Opal has. It's very balanced by the wonderful, soft vanilla. This is wonderful. I wish it lasted longer--it fades in 4 hours on me--but other than that, it's perfect.

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?

Have you tried Dublin? -
Oh, YUM! This is really nice! In the imp, the oil is dark and thick, like Snake Oil. It smells like chocolate and orange in the vial. On, the musk and herbs come out right away, along with the chocolate. And here comes the orange! This is a strong, bitter orange. Dry, I get an orange spice. It's really soft, which is surprising (but that may be because I didn't apply very much). Incensy and musky orange. Luckily my skin "burns off" the chocolate pretty quickly, since I don't really like smelling like chocolate (just eating it). I like this very much--onto the big bottle list it goes.

The Living Flame (which is also an LE, so not very helpful) or maybe Aeval. On me they're all three sweet pea goodness. Worth trying, anyway. -
Arrr! Ahoy matey! I smell like a pirate today! This mostly smells like rum on me (arrr! makes me think of Johnny Depp!) with just a touch of coconut. This is a sweet scent, but not TOO buttery sweet (like Gluttony or Sugar Skull). Very nice!

This is light, delicate, ethereal, and wistful--it perfectly captures a mournful ghost! It smells like a white flower (I can't distinguish any notes). It's very soft, and very feminine.

Oh, yum! This reminds me a lot of Eve, another favorite. At first, lemon! Unfortunately, that note fades quickly, leaving me with rose and a sharp apple scent. (It smells more like apple blossom than apple fruit to me.) This is very lovely. I wish the lemon would stick around a bit more, but I still may get a bottle of this someday.

Languor, definitely.

Annabel Lee is a lovely poem, and it reminds me of a great novel: Lolita. I can't help but think of Humbert Humbert's perversions (and Nabokov's disdain of Poe) when I read it! This is all sweet pea and peony on me, both flowers I adore. Luckily I don't get any aquatic notes (because they're not my favorites), but I wish I got more moss. This is a bright, innocent scent--very sweet and girly. However, I wish it was a bit more "gloom filled." I get more "innocence" than "funereal." Still, it's beautiful and bright.

Oh, I love this! There's a note here in common with both 13 and Bewitched. The tea leaf, I guess--it's a dry, woodsy smell. Is it the linden that smells lemony? Whatever it is, it's wonderful. This is light, dry, slightly citrus, and very clean. It's definitely a fresh, soft scent. I wish it were stronger, but other than that it's perfect. I need another bottle!

This is indeed a glowing orange-red scent. In the bottle, it smells like a sweet orange. On wet, it reminds me of Jezebel--ORANGE and something sweet and powdery. As it dries down, a floral note comes out that I don't like. I wish I knew what it is--maybe heliotrope? Whatever that note is, it smells a bit like dirt to me. Besides that note, I also get just a hint of rose. Luckily I don't notice the gardenia. There's a bit of amber at drydown also. I'm not sure about this one yet. I'll have to wear it a few more times. I'll try it in my oil burner--I'll bet it's splendid as a room scent!

When I first tried this, I got mostly carnation. Yum--spicy floral goodness that reminded me of Maiden. When I tried this again, I got mostly water lily--or maybe an unlisted white floral. It was very strong, and reminded me a bit of grass. It made my eyes water (even though I didn't put that much on). I definitely didn't like it as much this time. It had aged several months between wearing, so maybe the water lily got stronger as it aged? Or, more likely, maybe my "nose" is not more developed? Anyway, it's not for me.

Thanks everyone! I think I'm going to order a lemony imp pack and go from there. Hugs, Sheila

Thank you so much! I never would have thought of Severin. I used to dislike lemon too, but lately I've been craving it. I do have Spirits of the Dead coming (any day now!), so maybe that'll do for my lemon fix? (Or maybe I should do an "all lemon" order and get imps of each? Hm...)

I'm craving lemon lately, and I'm going to buy a 5 ml of something lemony in my next order. Even though I've been into BPAL for a year and a half, I haven't tried the following scents! (Shame on me!) Can someone compare these for me? I don't really want an herbal lemon, but something sweet--like lemon candy or lemonade. (And I have Dorian, btw, which isn't lemony at all to my nose. I also have Zephyr, which is lovely but more sandalwood-bergamot to my nose. I want LEMON!) Embalming Fluid Phantasm Shanghai The Apothecary (which doesn't have lemon listed, but some reviews mention lemon) Any others? (I'd love to get Snow Angel, but doubt I'll be able to scrounge any up) Thank you in advance, BPAL goddesses! Sheila

This is a wonderful scent...but it reminds me more of frosting than egg nog! (Not a bad thing in my book.) It smells like vanilla mostly, and it's very creamy and light. I don't get any spices or rum. I'm glad I got to try it.

A very pretty, sophisticated scent. It's a light floral, and the jasmine doesn't take over (which it often does). This reminds me of a commercial perfume. Not in a bad way--it's very pretty--but it has that same light, bright scent. It's a bit generic on me, so off to swaps.
-
I expected this to be ROSE, but there's a slight fruity or sweet undertone here that I don't like. Is it lotus? Some kind of fruit? I guess I prefer my roses dry, like in Seance. Off to swaps.

Huh. This smells exactly like Snow Bunny to me, too--but with less grapefruit (or whatever that sweet citrus note is in SB). It's nice and very wintery, and I adore the label. However, I like SB better, so off to swaps.

Oh God Oh God Oh God. *swoon* *eyes roll back* That was my reaction when I tried this. I love it. It's sweet and fruity, but no one fruit note jumps out at me. There's a slight floral undertone (I think it's violet), but it's not a floral scent. I know this isn't very helpful, but all the notes combine into an indescribable but very pink fragrance. It's very sweet and girly.

In the bottle this smells like cinnamon. Ruh roh. Not my favorite note. On, the cinnamon disappears quickly. Phew! It's replaced by patchouli (but it's a light patchouli) and a bit of musk and plum. I don't get any tonka (which is too bad) or florals, and the plum is very faint. This is a bit one-dimensional on me, and surprisingly quite light. I like it, but I think I'll swap it to someone who loves it.

This scent perfectly captures Goneril (the character). It truly has "a sinister and black-hearted core." So much so, that I couldn't wear it without feeling kind of creepy. This smells like light florals and cedarwood to me, with the cedar completely taking over. The cedar makes the scent dirty and dark (at least on my skin). Amazing what Beth can capture with scent!

This is indeed luminous and misty. It calls to mind a silvery blue color--fitting for a unicorn. The scent is slightly sweet, slightly floral, slightly herbal, and very clean and fresh. It's light and delicate, and perfect for those days when you want to smell nice but not overwhelm anyone.
-
I think this smells like a Lush shop--pretty and floral, with that Lush intermingling smell (that I can't really describe!). It's mostly violets, and it gets soft and powdery, which is fine by me because I love powdery scents. It's strong and long-lasting, too. Very pretty.

Oh, SWOON! This is fabulous! I've had this on my wish list for a long time, and the lab graciously threw in a giftimp in my latest order. Thanks, lab! I love it. In the imp: Whoo, burn-your-nostrils pine! Wow, pine pine pine! On wet: Yep, that's pine all right--but it's a dark, strong pine, not the gentle pine I love in Dublin and Snow Bunny. Dry: Oooh, there's the lovely, sexy musk. It really reminds me of Haunted at this stage. The pine is mostly gone, and I'm left with the mournful and deep musk. I love this on me, but I bet it would be even better on my DH.
