    All In The Golden Afternoon

Sniffed: Light golden oil. TOBACCO, very fizzy seltzer, slightly soapy and green wildflowers, with soft golden/tropical fruits. Much less fruity than I expected, although it is delightfully tart and a little juicy. Wet: Similar, maybe a little more floral? But it's a rather fresh, light, Spring-y sort of floral, which I will enjoy if it doesn't turn to soap. I get a bit more apricot and pineapple but the tangerine is still the strongest fruit note. It's a tad sweeter as a result. The tobacco is a lovely dark but sort of astringent counter note. Hint of amber. Dry: I'm trying to place one of the floral notes, which I recognise - it's almost like jasmine, but not quite - it has the soapy/sharp/heady quality - the florals have amped greatly, but are not turning too much on my skin. Jury's still out. The fruits are glorious and the tangerine is holding! I only wish the pineapple were stronger. Still very light amber, still fizzy, still delicious tobacco. Later: Eek. One of the florals has gone rotten, which makes me suspect iris, and, I have decided it IS jasmine. This has gone far too floral in a bad sharp/pungent way. Sad, too, because I love the tobacco note (much like in Mr. Nancy), the glorious tangerine that HOLDS ON MY SKIN (a first for ANY citrus), the light spirtz of seltzer and the sweet tropicalness of the other fruit. And the amber is no where to be seen. Summary: Nauseating, rotten, acrid, urine-y floral; jasmine and iris. I had to wash it off, or at least attempt to - it has evil longevity. Very, very strong throw, too. This evolved horribly on my skin.

    Stinky

Sniffed: Sweet milky baby powder. It really does smell astonishingly like clean baby skin. A bit ambery, maybe? Not overly sweet, and the milk note is quite pleasant and light, not sour. Wet: Much more honey, and berries (?!) - this is super fruity, which I assume must be the honey. Maybe Berry Moon got put in this bottle. The powder is a little perfumey the way that amber is, but overall, fairly nice (and I generally hate powdery scents). The milk note reminds me of the one in The Sea Foam's MIlk, light and refreshing. Dry: Eek. Going a bit to plastic/playdoh. However, I am definitely getting some skin musk, and I still really like the (sadly, very faint) milk and honey notes, so this is not that bad. And it's so soft on my skin that it would be hard for it to be offensive. Later: The powdery playdoh is amping and overwhelming the other notes - it's becoming quite unpleasant. Summary: Fades back down to playdoh powder and skin musk. I don't actually have to wash it off, because it's low throw and it seems like it will wear off rather quickly.

    Berry Moon 2009

Sniffed: Sweet fruits and ambery musk! The honey and orange blossom are there but light, the blueberries are pretty realistic, and the raspberries are juicy and tart. I do get a little ripe/intense fig, as in Carnal. Wet: Huh, I see how people say this is much more green and herbal on the skin - it's oddly sharp, with almost none of the berries or honey. It's all about the orange blossom and I get some neroli too; sharp, green, a little piercing and masculine. It's overall a bit acrid. I am sad. Dry: Orange blossom going a little soapy, but I am getting wisps of the honey and raspberry now and the amber (which is amber, not musk, I've decided. I have yet to detect any musk in this blend.) The blueberries are just gone. Fig amping as it does on my skin, but it's still behaving. Later: Much tarter, much more raspberry - it's really amping on me, actually, and it's much nicer than BPAL's raspberry note typically is. Less cloying, more realistic. The neroli/orange blossom is still a bit harsh, but bearable at this point. The amber has gone powder and is indeed very warm and golden, light enough to not bother me. Fig's still being very figgy. Summary: Now I'm getting a load of musk - maybe the coconutty one from Buck Moon, not quite that, but similar to BM's musk. It's very strong in the final drydown, even dominating. Fig is in second place, and it's a strong presence though still not too bossy. The amber is powdery but lightly so; it's more of a golden warmth, although I don't like its perfumey edge. Blueberry's a bit plastic, but raspberry is still deliciously tart. Strong throw & longevity. Ehh. It's not bad, but it's not quite working for me.

    Whoso List To Hunt

Sniffed: Light yellow oil. Dark, woodsy, masculine and a little sour (from the rose, which is Empress-style). Lots of bark, almost dirty and crumbling, brown musk (it reminds me of The Piper at the Gates of Dawn), and a some amber. Wet: Drier, warmer and still very woodsy. Loads of amber, that's both powdery and perfumey - in fact, amber is totally dominating within moments on my skin. Lots of the brown musk, which is pretty intense and masculine. A hint of sour/sharp rose, but it's distant. The bark is a bit softer on my skin. Dry: Ughhh this rose is amping on me, it's totally the rose from The Empress and The Miller's Daughter and it's so sharply sour, almost bitter or rotten. The amber is powdery-perfumey and this stuff isn't even really dry yet. The moss is NOT my beloved oakmoss, but a more musty sort of Spanish moss. Summary: Sour rose and powdery amber. I do love the bark note and the musk is nice, but not enough to save this. Revolting with very strong throw and longevity.

    High-Strung Daisies

Sniffed: Colourless or near colourless oil. Sweet, fresh, almost fruity - I totally get the bubblegum! It reminds me of Juicy Fruit *exactly*, not Bubbalicious. It's distinct from lotus. Sugar, sort of pink and honeyed (reminds me of Pink Moon 05) and fresh, almost green daisy. A little velvety carnation, but I'm not getting the pink pepper. Wet: Much less Juicy Fruit, more floral, but still in a soft, delicate, girly sort of way. These are not bold florals. It reminds me of Pink Moon (both years) now, and I get a bit of kick from the pink pepper, distantly - it's really lovely, and I often find pink pepper too strong and even verging on soapy. It's just perfect here. I get even more of a honey feel and in fact would bet on it being a note. Dry: The carnation is amping and has a slightly spicy edge - it's just gorgeous! The daisy is amping also, and has a bit of an edge - it's almost jasmine like, a little sharp and acrid - but I can handle it. The honeyed pink sugar base is just DIVINE. Sadly, pink pepper has indeed gone a tad soapy, but it's still faint. Summary: Fruit and juicy, almost citrusy, or like some tropical fruit? Guava maybe? The pink pepper is erl well behaved and gives this a slightly clean feel, while the daisy has settled into a bright but not piercing floral, and the carnation is like the one in Maiden v2, slightly spicy and oh so velvety. Awesome pink sugar/honey holds very well. Decent throw. The spicy edge of the carnation blends with the kick of the pink pepper seamlessly. Bottle for sure!

    Spawn of the She-Devil v1

Sniffed: Rich amber coloured oil. Incensey with perfumey amber and earthy patchouli, along with loads of red musk. It's not fruity that I can tell, and not very sweet. Dark and smoky, and a little vetiver, too - a man could wear this. Wet: Soapier/more vetiver, more of a medicinal-cola tang from the red musk. Dry: Whoaaaa red musk amping (and behaving very mentholically), and is there ambergris in this? I find this so masculine! More patchouli, very much the dirty hippie headshop type. Summary: Not a lot of morphing beyond the continued incredible amping of the red musk. Insanely strong throw. I don't get coconut ever.

    Arsenic v2

Sniffed: Light yellow oil. Heavy tropical florals and a touch of creamy white coconut. Wet: Almost citrusy, and a little green, like maybe a palm note. Frangipani and gardenia for sure - very bright and feminine, a little sharp and heady with a soapy edge. It's a soft coconut note, but it's there. Dry: Smells like hand lotion, and it also really reminds of Alba Botanica gardenia scented lotion. But way more perfumey. Summary: This is the sort of gardenia that gives me a headache, so I had to wash it off. I must say the coconut is very subtle and nice, like the coconut in Perversion.

    PX72

Sniffed: Light yellow oil. Wet greenery, crushed green grass, and some sort of florals, with a hint of maybe tropical fruit below. Wet: More fruity, and more bitter. Maybe papaya or passionfruit - not very sweet, but with a tart sort of green edge - and some very bitter-sharp green note. I suspect some narcissus, as well. Dry: It loses a little sharpness as it dries, and the fruity note is really lovely - I do think it's papaya, and maybe there's some melon in there too. Summary: Oh one of the green notes is almost definitely dandelion (love!), but the narcissus and maybe some neroli make this unworkable for me. It's too bitter and sharp, and the fruit fades too much.

    Copper v1

Sniffed: Extremely pale yellow oil. Eucalyptus, strongly green and mentholic, with something sweet and sort of fruity below. Wet: Immediately less eucalyptus, and now I get the lime that was hiding in force. It's juicy and incredible, like the note in Mr. Nancy. Dry: Dries instantly. This reminds me of Detox - it's pretty simplistic. But I'm liking it loads, it feels very green and fresh. Later: Virtually all the eucalyptus is gone, and the lime is going a bit Pez-like powdery, as in Detox. Still strong and yummy though, and a little spicy. Now I get the ginger! Summary: Powdery lime Pez and spicy ginger.

    Aphrodite v7

Sniffed: Pale yellow oil. Wet greenery (crushed new green leaves) and feminine white florals, with a rainy-aquatic-ozone sort of feel. Very fresh and clean. Wet: Same, if anything, greener - very lush in feel. Almost grassy? And some cucumber skin - this feels very refreshing. Slight soapy edge, I suspect an 'aquatic going to soap' thing. Dry: There is a spring-like floral that I know and can't place, and rose, lily and orchid notes. And yet it's not a scary strong floral blend. This kind of reminds me of Sea of Glass, or Blue Moon 2007. There's the cool green-blue aquatic feel. Later: It goes a bit too soapy for me, and the roommate says 'old ladies'. The rose is amping I guess? I would assume this is a yellow or white rose, as it has that sort of feel, and those roses go a bit soapy-powdery on me. Great throw.

    CD023

Sniffed: Light yellow oil. Cake! Rich and creamy vanilla-frosted yellow cake, with a plasticky note underneath. Not that sweet, though. Wet: Much less foody-delicious on my skin, and more plastic-artificial. Eek, this is going to rancid peanut. Dry: Slightly rancid-nutty powdery plastic. Uncooked oatmeal. Fades fast and never has that much throw to begin with.

    Phosporous v5

Sniffed: Extremely pale nearly colourless yellow oil. Metallic, citrusy cologne with sweet mint - it kind of reminds me of Usher! It reminds me of the taste in my mouth when I eat citrus after brushing my teeth, in a good way. Wet: Fizzy sparkling! Must be that lemon/lime note, because I get Sprite/7-UP all the way, with a nice dose of sweet spearmint. Dry: Going soapy, as lemon-lime soda-like things invariably go on my skin. Sigh! Still sort of fizzy, though. Also, there's a strong green tea note. Later: Pleasantly minty soap. Low throw and fades super fast. Summary: Except that it dries down to Shanghai? Still a bit sharp/soapy on me, and not as gorgeous as the initial stage, but an unexpected evolution.

    Tetramorph v2

Sniffed: Pale yellow oil. Sweet honeyed wax. A little floral and woody, too - it's very complex, and evokes humidity and warmth for me. Wet: More sweet and woody - sandalwood, maybe both red and white? Beeswax for sure, but definitely amber, and I swear I get some Sunflower. Dry: It dries down beautifully, the way many honey/beeswax scents do, but it does go a tad powdery.

    White Chocolate and Sugared Violets

Sniffed: Pale yellow oil. Chocolate galore - MILK chocolate and a hint of sugared violets (essentially Faith) far below. Rich and cloying and reminds me of the note in Bliss. I am not hopeful. Wet: Chocolatey chocolate! I get a bit of the feel I got from Dark Chocolate (the Gaiman LE) as well as Bliss. The violets are definitely the same as in Faith. This is definitely not white chocolate...but it's darkened on my skin such that I don't mind (I just hate milk chocolate) - so it's a very dark milk chocolate. Dry: Insane throw, this stuff. About 95% chocolate, 5% violets. This does not go the way of Bliss, though it is more milky than I would like - it's very rich and creamy, but I sorta like it. Extremely foody, but not nearly as cloyingly sweet as in the vial. Summary: No morphing. Rich creamy dark milk chocolate over faintly powdery sugared violets. Fantastic throw & longevity. Too foody for me, but nice, and many hours later it dries down to essentially Faith.

    Nine Mysteries

Sniffed: Light yellow oil. Peppermint, catnip, and other herbs. A little sweet, a little mentholic, and fairly medicinal. Makes me think of TALs. Wet: Bitter, more green - definitely heavier on the catnip than the peppermint, and there may be pennyroyal in here too. It's harsh mintiness. Possibly even a little eucalyptus, because I get the Vicks effect beyond typical mints. Dry: I think this must have pennyroyal in it, a nemesis note of mine, because this is amping out of control, and smelling like an evil minty toiler cleaner, complete with slightly soapy edge. Summary: It won't wash off, though lots of scrubbing has led to the emergence of a grassy note, and some cucumber - but there's still too much revolting vaguely soapy mint. Almost powdery. Maliciously strong throw & longevity.

    La Vague

Sniffed: Extremely pale nearly colourless oil. Creamy fruit! Tangerine and peach especially, that cream accord, a little rose and osmanthus - the jasmine is creamy and light like the note in Kitsune-Tsuki. The other florals are NOT shouting, though there's an edge of powder. Wet: Sweeter - I get a lot of the white grape, and the white peach is syrupy, but the tangerine keeps the sweetness in check. The cream note is lovely and reminds me of Schlafende. A bit more rose and sadly, lily of the valley, though the latter is still light. More jasmine too, but it's still good. Not much iris. Dry: Not much of a morpher, and the typically scary florals never turn on me, while the osmanthus amps up deliciously and the tangerine holds better than any orange citrus note in a BPAL scent ever has. I'm still not crazy about the cloying sweetness of white peach, a note I don't much like, but...this is pretty nice. Summary: Super creamy, and a little more floral - iris and lily of the valley amping. It's definitely in the same category as Schlafende but much sweeter, although the tangerine is holding remarkably well and is deliciously tart.

I Fell in Love with a Floating Brain

Sniffed: Sweet and foody, it's all about the strawberry and cake! Almost a little creamy cheesy/cheesecake - like Beaver Moon. Not buttery, but very rich and cakey. The carnation and white grapefruit are there but overwhelmed. Wet: Less sweet and more complex; SPICY, rich carnation and bitter-tart grapefruit - these are fantastic additions and really complement the foodiness. Less creamy, but still very rich and cakey with plenty of strawberry. It's so interesting and unique, I can't stop sniffing! Dry: The strawberry is amping or the cake is drying down - I get that 'wild strawberry' note I got from Beaver Moon 07, as some have noted - it's very strong and sort of tart, and melds with the grapefruit which has a definite zesty-bitter-pithy edge. The carnation is so strong! Later: The carnation note reminds me so much of the carnation in Pink Moon 05 - I totally get that sort of vibe on later drydown when most of the cake & grapefruit have dissipated. This is almost not-foody now, and the notes have all blended together so beautifully. Definitely a 'pink sugar' note. Summary: This evolves so beautifully and is so awesomely both like other scents I love and totally its own scent. Decent throw and longevity - I do have to slather. This is a two-bottle scent for me.

    The House

Sniffed: Light yellow oil. Soil, incense, musty moss, rotten wood, and rose. It matches the description perfectly. Wet: Much more rose, with a fresher green note from the moss, and lots more ebony wood. The incense is a little spicy, and the soil note is much lighter. Overall more pleasant. Dry: Soooo musty (must be spanish moss), with dusty old stale incense, and super soap rose - still some nicer rose and ebony notes, but overall this is so decrepit & elderly. Summary: ROSE completely amps and takes over - with only faint hints of the dirt, musty moss, and (quite nice, sort of polished) ebony wood. Insane throw &longevity.
  19. fairnymph

    The Little Sparrow

Sniffed: Light yellow oil. Sharp and mildly sweet, a little almost citrusy, woody in a polished, oily way. Definitely a distinct powdery, dusty amber base below. Wet: Oh hello Verbena, I thought that was you. Somewhat medicinal/mentholic, now. Much stronger of a scent overall. I can't really get much of the wood - verbena and amber powder are strangling it. Dry: More that oily-seedy note emerging, as well as the sandalwood which combined with the powderyamber has taken on a perfumey feel. The verrbena has calmed down, but it still very much present. Summary: Verbena & sandalwoood SOAP & amber POWDER. Eeek. Masculine-ish? Not something I'd wear. Good throw but fades fast.
  20. fairnymph

    Jailbait

Sniffed: Pale yellow oil. STRONG! Quite sweet and little overwhelmining. Bubblegum strongest first, definitely pink and artificial, followed by fake-cherry candy and a hint of orange. Someting heady and floral distantly in the background. Wet: Same, but more pleasant - nostalgic in how exact the bubblegum note is, down to the powdery coating of new pieces. More orange and less cherry; still fruity but in a playful as opposed to sickenly fake & cloying way. A heavy cologne/perfume note emerging more... Dry: Dries rapidly and holy moly, starts turning very musk. It's becoming much more mature and complex, what a tease! Also, I'm getting a spicy note, a light cinnamon I believe, giving this a 'red' feel. As opposed to the bright pink feel earlier. The cherry and orange fruit are more real and much more pleasant. Summary: Cinnamon - spicy and red and a little sweet, but not a crazy dominating cinnamon with faint powdery bubblegum and light fun fruits. There's a definitely undercurrent of somewhat heady cologney-perfume, and I suspect ylang ylang. Good throw, fades a bit.

    Madrid

Sniffed: Light yellow oil. Sharp, bright, fruity-floral. Candy grape and fragrant mimosa over a base of sweet woody clove. Wet: Much harsher, chemically, sweet, and brash. The grape is cloying, the mimosa overly bold and a little bitter, while the clove is much stronger and spicier. If this scent where a person, I'd fear for my safety! Dry: CLOOOOOOOOOOOOVE, spicy and dark and intense and dangerous. The bitterness of the receded mimosa only underscores it, and the faded grape candy adds a slightly sickly note. Demonically insane throw. Summary: Evilly strong, sweet and spicy clove with lightly bitter mimosa and a wallop or sticky fake grape candy. Strong throw that does fade somewhat over time. Unisex - anyone evil could wear this (or should, as warning to the olfactorily sensitive).

    The Music of Erich Zahn

Sniffed: Deep amber coloured oil. Harsh, bitter, biting; vetiver and ajowan and maybe a pepper of some sort, a very bitter strain of mimosa, some drak resins - and a fake, revolting sort of vanilla-cocoa foodiness underneath at all, maybe the black musk? Truly acrid. I'm afraid to skin test it! Wet: Spicier, darker, woodier - a bit less sweet. Vetiver and ajowan and opponox reign, and I swear there is black pepper in this. LEss of the gross almost nutty foody note (hazelnut maybe? oh yeah, that's what I think it is). Mimosa still bitter, but in less unpleasantly so. Tart limey tamarind is so faint it's barely worth comment. Dry: Now it reminds me sort of curry - spicy Indian curry over woody resins and loads of sweet black musk. It's much less harsh due at least in part to the settling of the vetiver - but I still find it revolting. Summary: Dark, smoky, spices wood, and foody-sweet curry with a little tamarind chutney. The vague mimosa holds, but overall this is bizarre, and I can't see a woman wearing this. Strong throw & longevity.
  23. fairnymph

    Coyote

Sniffed: Orangey amber oil. Dry dusty woods, almost a little soapy - it reminds m very strongly of some other BPAL. Definitely some perfumey amber. A little sour, a hay note? Wet: Much warmer, richer, and deeper. Less dusty. The sourness almost has a tang. I'm definitely getting a ton of musk - I think it's maybe the same sort of musk in Buck Moon that smells coconutty on me? Still a hint of soap, and powdery amber. Dry: The grass/hay note has morphed into something almost kinda citrusy, and I quite like it. The musk has amped greatly, but the amber has turned to utter powder with a soapy edge. I still get a little of the warm dusty woods, but not in a serious way. Summary: Dries down primarily to AMBER POWDER, with lots of musk and lighter tangy hay and dusty wood. Wayyyy too powdery on me. Moderate throw & great longevity.

    Chrysanthemum Moon

Sniffed: Deep orangey-amber, burnt umber coloured oil. Sweetly piney-fresh from the mums with an added kick from the juicy-tangy ginger; there's also a general sort of hazy, almost dusty incense note, maybe opium? Some sweet, intense musk below it all. Wet: The ginger is spicier, but still more of a juicy note than a dry one, despite its heat, and this feels so oddly fresh combined with the almost-citrusy bright mums - there's an overall feel of 'velvetyness' which the dusty opium note, though light, reinforces. Rich, almost dirty musk still emerging. Dry: This has got to be Indian musk, because I've test that musk in 3 different scents this week, and I know it very well right now - it's heavy and reach and a little masculine, almost too sweaty and smutty for my personal use - but it is sex. The spiciness is sort of light, and almost floral as if it came from carnation, but I think it's from the poppy/opium/incense haze. The musk takes on an almost soapy-cologney edge which brightens the blend, since the mums have dimmed a bit. Later: Dark, intense, sweetly musky ( I get a tiny bit of red musk mixed in the with the Indian musk), a little soapy-cologney and a little spicy and smoky - it's just incredibly complex and well blended - seductive, hazy, exotic musk, in summary. it's a little too mature for me, but it is delicious, and I put it in the same category as Black Lace & Storyville. Summary: Hmmm...it really goes to red musk more and more over time, such that after a few hours, I don't really like this - it's become too medicinal and harsh, cola-ish, as red musk is on me. Plus, the incense has amped a little and that's just not my thing. The gorgeous Indian musk (which settles nicely on me) and mums though are stunning. Good throw and great longevity.

    Sticky Pillowcase

Sniffed: Light yellow oil. Fruity, candy, sugary sweet. It does have that creaminess of the candy corn and maybe a little (less discinctly) from the marshmallow; definitely some 'strawberry starburst candy'. I even get a little of the salt water taffy, and a linen-y note that must be lint. Wet: More sugary-sweet in a sort of teeth-aching way; heavier, and a little plastic/artificial. I do get a bit of that general creamy candy note from Velvet Unicorn, but also that plastic-powder the marshmallow. Oddly, this does smells blue now, like artificial blue raspberry slurpee syrup. Dry: It's faded dramatically, and the 'spun sugar' (reminds me of Pink Moon 05) note has come out - also the hard candy/rock candy note reminds me of the same in Candy Phoenix, almost a little dusty. Slightly artificial strawberry and blue raspberry and a base of creamy candy. Summary: Reminds me loads of Treat #1, but with purely berry fruit and the creamy/powdery undertones of candy corn and marshmallow. The clean linen note (think Berenice) holds and provides a nice backgrdrop, as does the faint saltiness. Unfortunately, can't deal with the marshmallow note. Good throw, fades quite a bit.
