I want a BPAL that smells like Bath & Body Works...
Kelism replied to sihaya09's topic in Recommendations
I know Sensual Amber has come up before and Jacob's Ladder was recommended. Jacob's Ladder is amber on me, but BBW has a sweetness to it whereas Jacob's Ladder is more dry. Suggestions on something Amber but with a layer of sweetness? Khajuraho was suggested but it has both honey and rose (which don't work for me). -
Okay - I like vanilla but it seems to do different things for me. Doing a quick search for vanilla and going based on what was on that list that I remember trying, here are my experiences: Good: Love's Philosopy - like a lot. It smells like sugar cookies or cake. Golden Priapus - Like, but not so sure about the woods Mouse's Sad & Long Tale - Like and may get a bottle Reagan - nice, but it is gone SO quickly BAD (I might go to bpal hell for saying this, but...): O - overpowering, makes me feel sick Snake Oil- overpowering, makes me feel sick Opuhi - something about the ginger didn't work Tiki Queen - too floral White Rabbit - I don't remember, just didn't work Dorian - too much Antique Lace - too much Tombstone - I don't really like the cedar Add to it: honey doesn't work for me. At all - makes me feel ill. I'm okay with stuff that tends towards a little powdery, but I really don't like the OMG VANILLA stuff. Suggestions? Edit: OMG how could I forget Mantis? For me, Mantis had a nice vanilla creaminess undertone to it.

Stance on Joss Whedon and his enterprises? I'm not sure who that is? Has anyone tried ice wine before? Do/did they enjoy it? No. I don't drink What other perfume companies (besides bpal) have you been curious about? I'm not sure. I'd be open to trying the ones I see tossed around on bpal type forums, i.e. possets, cobolt, woobie, nocturne alchemy, cbihp Does anyone here do anything with grave rubbings? No, but I did my final project in photography on grave stones. Would you enjoy art based on original Graveyard photography? Yes, I'd be open to that. What's in your Netflix or Blockbuster queue, do you want any new Netflix/Blockbuster friends, if so how do we find you on there? I don't have netflix or blockbuster because we have most everything on cable, including all of the major movie channels. I'm sure there's lots of stuff out there I'd like to see though. I like suspense, thriller, mystery type movies primarily. I like horror too, but really I prefer a good psychological thriller to one with lots of blood and guts (but I'm not against blood and guts). Do you play a musical instrument? Nope. My husband plays the drums, his kids play the guitar, trumpet and drums. My husband's band practices here once a week or so. It gets loud. What do you think of Irrelevant Disturbing and Surreal Crawdad Dream? Love it? Hate it? Kicking yourself for not getting a bottle? I would have been interested to try it, but I have a feeling it may not work for me. How do you feel about trinkets? You know - tiny toys or doodads that serve no purpose than to be cute, take up space and make us smile. Love them or waste of money? Here's my problem. I like them....but I'm trying to stay away from cluttery type stuff. I guess I would prefer stuff that can be used vs displayed. Can melty things be shipped to you, or will they be in puddles by the time you open the package? Melty things are fine, it's getting cold. Who likes pirates? Pirates are ok What are your feelings about Dia De Los Muertos? I really don't have any feelings about it one way or the other. What do you think about the Nightmare Before Christmas? I don't really have any feelings about it oen way or the other If candy is sent, would you prefer small amounts to a Halloween sized bag? It depends on the candy, I guess. But in general smaller amounts would probably be better. I try to not overload on too much sugar and we never have trick or treaters so we have pleanty of leftovers. Do you like notes in your soaps or bath stuff that you don't like in your perfumes? If so which? I don't think so - I'd say it's probably about the same. I did try a body wash with rose...and that was a mistake. I really don't do well with rose. Do you like floral soaps or bath stuff? If so, what florals work and what don't? Floral is okay. Again, rose doesn't work for me. I can't really explain, it just really doesn't work. I can't stand when people around me wear rose either. I also don't know how to explain this, but I need lower pitched scents. yes...many florals (i.e. rose) seem to be high pitched to me. That probably sounds weird? If rose were a sound it would be a loud shreek. How do y'all feel about honey and maple? And different flavored honey, not just the standard kind? I'm into flavored honeys. Please don't send maple though, it is everywhere around here. What is your favorite thing to do on a cool fall day? How cool? The unfortunate thing is that cool fall day usually = rainy. I'd love to go play outside somewhere with my puppies (as long as it isn't TOO cool). Do you like Mystery Science Theater 3000? Have you tried out (and if not, would you be interested in doing so) its weird little brother, RiffTrax? I've never seen it, but I guess I'd be open to it. What is everyone's "luck" item? I don't have one. How do you feel about Hello Kitty? I'm not a huge crazy fan, but I like Hello Kitty alright. Legwarmers? Armwarmers? Never worn either. I've never worn them, but I'd be open to the idea. What is your favorite category of the GC? I seem to have luck with excolo

If you could bring back any TV show from cancellation what would it be? Oh gosh...JERICHO@#~!@~@~# What else? What was that show that was set in FL and - Invasion? I think. I'm sure there are others but those popped to mind quickly. I wonder if my witchee would like a blanket type thing. Would you? Sure. What's your favorite "I know it's bad for me but I can't help myself" treat? Sweets. Lately, Ben & Jerry's. Have you read the label? Don't... Very important question: Are you planning on buying anything off your BPAL and/or other wishlists during the round? I'm not planning on it, but you never know. If I did I would be sure to update my wish list. Do you wear a watch? If so, what kind/style? No, I don't wear a watch. They never fit (small wrist) and I find them annoying. How do you feel about having a donation made in your name to something? If you like that idea, what types of organizations/groups would you want the donation to go to? I'm absolutely into that. I'd pick a local shelter (mine is http://ncal.com/) and/or chihuahua rescue group (http://www.yankeechihuahuas.org/). I avoid big groups (www.hsus.org/, www.redcross.org/) and really prefer something local. I feel more $$ gets where it needs to be that way.

Give me a few days and I will work on getting the random/misc questions answered here, I promise!

For tea drinkers, do you bag it or prefer loose: Either is fine for me. Does the weather change where you are, as in, does it get cold in the winter? Oh yes...it gets FREEZING. I wear long underwear to work in the winter (even though it's supposedly 70-72 degrees in the building) Who are your forum buddies? People you know well enough online or IRL to help your Witch pick out stuff for you? I'm still pretty new, I don't really have any. Does your cell phone have a place to attach charms? I don't think so. If you drink coffee [...] I don't. My husband uses a keurig machine How do you scent yourself? Do you layer soaps, moisturizers, etc. or do you go straight to slathering your bod with BPAL? I use scented soaps, but unscented moisturizers. I pretty much just use bpal. Do you/how do you scent your world? Candles, incense, diffusers, potpourri? None of the above? My husband is into incense. I use candles sometimes. How do people feel about receiving baked goods/kits to make said goods? Or other cooking items? Would you enjoy oil or vinegar flavored with herbs grown at home? Strange and exotic spices with recipes to try? Cookies made with carnation petals? I'm cool with food, baked goods, etc. as long as they include an ingredients list. I'm always up for recipes to try but keep in mind that I don't eat meat and I don't like peppers! What are your pet's names, and what are they named for? Kitty - 4yo chihuahua - she came when I was calling the cat so we started calling her Kitty. Turns out she didn't think her name was Kitty, she's just an attention hog. (registered name: H'reKittyKitty) Moo - 4yo chihuahua - she is black & white spotted like a cow. Grover - cat - I have no idea, he belonged to my husband. Amber - cat - I had a hard time coming up with a name. Her eyes are amber-ish so my mom suggested it. Ginger - cat - she needed to fit with the "-er" naming pattern. Who here is a complete, over the top, Alice In Wonderland fanatic? Are you a Trekkie? If so, which series do you prefer? Do you have a favorite character? I'm not really fanatic about anything. So far? Do you have phobias? Not really. I get kind of creeped out around birds, but that's about it. BUT - that's just real birds, I'm cool with toys/photos/etc. How do you like your mix CDs? Random? Stuff you know you'll like? I like them any way. I haven't made any in awhile but I usually did them based on some random theme and grouped stuff that fit with that theme. I'm open to new music. Would you rather get food or jewellery? Food. Do you like children's toys, such as jacks, those little things you tilt around to get the ball in the right hold (wtf are those called?), the aforementioned caplet dinosaurs, cap guns, etc?: Not a huge toy fan I guess. English candy/tea/marmite or other stuff that you love and can't easily get outside of England? I'm not familar with English stuff so I don't know. Do you like making up your SW packages around a theme, or prefer to mix it all up? This is only my second round but the ones I sent and received were just mixed up. Band-aids: do you like the fun and funky ones? Those are the only ones that I buy (except for the ones that are designed to fit on either your fingertip or on the joints). Right now I have Hello Kitty in my desk at work for the occasional papercut. What's the scariest thing that's ever happened to you? It didn't exactly happen to me, but I thought I was going to lose my mom in January 2007 when she had an aneurysm that bled into her brain. The first few weeks after were really scarey. Do you like lip balm? If so, do you like tinted, glossy, sparkly, pearly or just plain lip balm? I usually use plain stuff because I tend to end up with it all over my face and not just my mouth...needless to say I look pretty silly if it is tinted or sparkly. And, secondly, what is something you've been searching for but just can't find? A CD: Mono & Nikitaman: Für immer, or more specifically the song Tausend. No, I don't speak German, I just really like how it sounds. What are your two favorite etsy shops? I'm new to etsy (too). Here's my wishlist to give ideas of the types of things I like: http://www.etsy.com/favorite_listings_publ...user_id=5428356 if that doesn't work, my username is kelism Are you active on any other boards/forums? If so please specify where and your username there. I'm on LJ probably a little more than here. I also am on a LOT of yahoogroups, specifically groups about dogs. Robots versus zombies: who wins? ZOMBIES@ Are you a soap addict? Anything you like to avoid in soaps (goat's milk, lye, dyes, etc...) or any particular scents you like or brands you want to try? I like soap and I'm open to whatever. I don't know of anything I actively avoid. I don't like anything rose scented. What's your favorite book? I don't know. I recently read The Night Listener and really liked it. I also really hated the movie. What size socks do you wear? How about hat size? I wear small socks. My shoes are 36/5.5, so it can be a challenge. I don't know what size hat I wear, but I think my head is fairly average. By nature are you a morning lark or a night owl? I'm NOT a morning person. I tend to be more of a night owl. What is your favorite autumnal-seasonal drink? Hot cider! Crossword puzzles? Other pencil puzzles? I prefer sudoku Halloween. Do you like it kooky or creepy? Either? Reserved or Raunchy? Either? Tea or Coffee in the morning? Neither. I don't drink coffee, but I drink tea in the afternoon. Fruity snacks or chocolate? Yes please. I like both, but can't have huge amounts of chocolate (migraines). Would you accept art? Sure. I don't have much room at home, but stuff that would be appropriate to display at work would be good. Antiques or Brand New? It depends on the item! Bugs? Do you like 'em or not? Not particularly. I like ladybugs and the image of ants (just not actual ants) Do you like horror flicks? Yes, I prefer horror movies! I like zombies! Most movies I watch are either horror-ish or mystery/suspense. Who here prefers stylus and ink to ballpoint? Anyone invested time and effort into calligraphy or proper Victorian writing? I have no skill, but I really love a nice pen that rolls well. Weigh in...Are you right or left-handed? Right-handed. What's your favorite part about Fall? Ummm...I don't terribly like fall. It's just a reminder that it is going to get cold. It's only a matter of time before I move somewhere warmer. Do you like office/school supplies? If so, what is your favorites? Yes - pens and sticky-notes are my favorite What is your favorite pumpkin goodness? I like most pumpkin things - those pumpkin/cream cheese roll thingies, pumpkin pie, pumpkin cheesecake, pumpkin...what else is made with pumpkin? I'm not really sure about pumpkin scents though. I haven't smelled them and I'm a little afraid to.

In the bottle: Very faint, sort of herbal smelling. But I never trust what the bottle smells like, because 99.99% it smells nothing like it does on me. Wet: I can smell a faint green floral but still with a heavy herbal base to it. Drying: It disappeared. Gone! Either my body ate it or... Dry: Then suddenly it came back. Stronger than before and a bit more floral. How odd - usually if it's gone it is gone and doesn't reappear. I would say it's nice gentle scent. I agree with Brighid, crushed herb/green(-white) floral. It does smell "clean"
-
I put this on today (after nearly spilling it all over myself) and it smelled very sweet. A dry sweet, but sweet. And sort of floral...but nothing I could put my finger on. I realized as it dried that it smelled familiar. yes...this smells like the lobby at The Venitian to me. Not my kind of thing (but it kind of makes me want to go see Blue Man Group).
-
Wet: A green herbal mint. Not a toothpastey mint, but a nice very herbal feeling scent - much more like an actual mint leaf than anything mint scented. I would say it does have a cut grass type feeling...but it doesn't smell like cut grass. Dry: Rose. A faint (but high pitched) rose with a little something else that I can't put my finger on (another floral). But...anything with rose amps on me and I don't really care for rose. Not much throw at all. I liked it wet, but the drydown really did nothing for me.
-
I put this on and all I could think was "huh?" I could not even begin to describe what it smells like. It seems like a warm weather scent - something kind of fresh and cool. I think what I smell is a mix of citrus with mint and just a hint of chocolate at first (that seems to have faded away), but honestly my nose is just sort of confused and can't really pick anything specific out of it. I could see where people thought it smelled pledge-ish but this actually stays away from the "cleaner" smell to me (unlike embalming fluid). It's not my kind of thing, but it's very interesting and I can see why people would enjoy it.
-
I got this as a frimp in my last lab order. This made me decide that, yes, the more "masculine" scents do tend to work better for me. In the imp all I smell is juniper/pine. This made me almost set it aside to try something else, but I went for it anyway. On me it's mostly vanilla/amber. The throw isn't huge but really all I smell is the vanilla/amber. But, if I hold my wrist up - that's when I can pick out the juniper. It grounds the creamy vanilla goodness. Yum.
-
In the bottle: pink bubble gum On me: A very light, pinkish, candish, floral scent. I smelled primarly what I assume was tuberose. I got NO vanilla and I don't think I really got coconut either. This didn't change too much as it dried. It was a pleasant, tropical-feeling scent that I imagine would do really well in the hot weather. But, it feels very delicate and girly (too delicate/girly for me). It was very gentle - there was enough throw that I could smell it around me, but it wasn't overpowering or too strong/bold.
-
Like Sarri I smelled a heavy ginger at first (NO vanilla) that I didn't think was that pleasant either. The scent hits you pretty hard. But, it wasn't what I was expecting - it was a different kind of ginger. I guess what my head thought the ginger would smell like didn't agree with what my nose decided this smelled like. It kept changing for a good two hours. Eventually the ginger died down and I could start to smell some vanilla. At that point (2-3 hours after I put it on) I can see the Love's Philosphy's "cousin" comments. It did have a little similarity to Love's Philosophy, but I prefered LP. I'm going to try this again before I decide to sell it but I'm not feeling it too much at this point.
-
Kind of yuck for me. I liked the concept of a nice fresh scent, but it came off more like a cleaning solution. It was very sharp and powerful and something about it didn't sit right with my head. The lemon was way strong for me and it didn't feel fresh, it felt more like a bathroom. A freshly cleaned bathroom, but a bathroom nonetheless.
-
The vanilla in this is a perfect vanilla for me - it isn't way overpowering and loud and it isn't foody. This is exactly what I wish the vanilla in Antique Lace would be ('cause maybe then I could wear it). This has a nice creamy amber/light floral scent to it. It reminds me a bit of Jacob's Ladder, just a little lighter (I think Jacob's Ladder is more deep and more golden). I don't know what happened the first time I tried this, but I had thrown it in my swap pile. I decided to try it again and I am SO glad that I did. I will not swap it and I may get a bottle, I'm not sure yet. When wet it has a slight bit of green to it, that faded as it dried. I'm not really familiar with sandlewood but I don't think I really smell much. For me it was a very light, creamy, soft vanilla and amber. There's just enough of the sweet pea to add a very slight white floral to it, but mostly it is creamy amber. It's lasted quite awhile - at least 7 hours and I can still faintly smell it as I move around.
-
I wish it would come back This is the first scent I tried that was no longer available and I fell in love - go figure. It's a light green, and has an almost vanilla-like creamy undertone. I assume the creamy is from the amber and golden musk. I really don't pick up on patchouli and I'm not sure what neroli smells like. It doesn't smell herbal to me...just a very nice green (I cannot come up with any other way to describe it). If it were a color it would be something like this. I WANT MORE!
-
I get just what the description says: orange/ginger/patchouli (but it doesn't scream patchouli and it's not "dirty hippy" patchouli, I think the ginger helps make it more complex). The orange there but not obvious - I'm not sure I would have labeled what I was smelling as orange until I knew there was orange in it. It's very sexy and spicey and earthy. It's very strong and bold, deep and sensual. It has kind of a punch - there is no subtle about it for me. Vixen is the perfect name, too.
-
The meeting of Heaven and Earth: golden amber, galbanum, benzoin, ambrette, rockrose, costus and tonka. 2005 I bought a bottle unsniffed because I heard that it is similar to BBW Sensual Amber. For me this is very much creamy amber. Golden, smooth, glowing resin with a little smokeyness to it. It is definitely a low, deep scent for me. Kind of earthy but not in a dirt kind of way. If I had to give it a color, it would be creamy amber. A feeling? Warm sun on a cold day.

The Spirit of the Divine Messenger, the Lord of the Crossroads, He Who Owns All Doors and Roads in this World. He is the intermediary between the Orishas and mankind, and stands at the intersection of humanity and the Divine. He opens all paths of communication, both mundane and Heavenly. His ofrenda contains coconut, tobacco and sweet, sugared rum. I NEVER would have picked this out. Coconut, tobacco, rum? No way, not my thing. I tried it on without reading the description and it was the first scent I tried that I immediately decided oOo - I like that! I don't get the pina colada that other people get. For me I think the tobacco and rum are more in the front and the coconut is just a nice backdrop. It's kind of sweet (but not SWEET - a nice balanced sweet), kind of smokey/sort of musky scent with maybe a little buttery rum splash. It doesn't seem beachy or suntan lotion - but I can easily see wearing it at the beach and defintely it has a pirate feel to me. This seems really unisex/masculine to me so I'm suprised it doesn't come up more when people are mentioning unisex/masculine. I like how it smells on me, but I may also try it on my husband.
-
I'm not usually a floral person, but I really liked this. I put it on then read the description and it really seemed to fit. I find it to be totally orange and crushed jungle blooms. But not orange juice orange - more like a floral orange. It's a happy, light scent that just screams exotic and sunshine all at once. It's a good pick me up when it's gloomy outside. Plus, I got a very random "wow you smell GOOD" from a guy who doesn't usually notice things like that.
-
This was very "cake" or frosting to me, but in a good way and a not terribly foody way, if that is possible. I rarely sniff the bottle because most things smell very different to me in the bottle vs on my skin, but it smelled pretty much the same to me in the bottle/wet/dry. It's a very soft and creamy to me and I had no hint of wintergreen or fake vanilla or plastic. I really like the soft vanilla in Reagan but it just died so quickly on me and had no throw. This has a similar vanilla feel, but has more staying power (and of course the creamy aspect to it). I like!

When your favorite GC blends are discontinued
Kelism replied to darklorelei's topic in Recommendations
Thanks, I realized I've got Leanan Sidhe and The Apothecary on my wishlist, so that's a good sign. I will add Dormouse, The Unicorn, Desire, The Catterpillar and Black Hellebore. I just got an imp of Phantasm that I haven't tried yet. I've tried Embalming Fluid and to me it was okay but a little on the cleaner-ish side. It was more yellow-green than green-green if you know what I mean. I've also tried Zephyr and it lasted about two seconds and was gone/powder. Maybe I will pull it out and try it again. I've also tried The Lion but I don't remember anything about it. It didn't stand out at me I guess. -
When your favorite GC blends are discontinued
Kelism replied to darklorelei's topic in Recommendations
So the first scent I try that is no longer available I end up really liking...go figure. Does anyone have any suggestions on GC scents that are at all similar to Mantis? For me Mantis is a lovely light green...with nice (almost vanillaish) creamy undertones.
