Divine! Wonderful! Outstanding! This could possibly be my new Antique Lace! I smell something like vanilla, but not quite. I'd say it's deeper. Some floral, but not overwhelming. This has a very complex scent, like all the notes are vying for attention but somehow, are all behaving and melding together. I need a bucket of this! Delicious! ADDED April 28: Update that the second imp I have of this smelled very soapy and plasticy. Weird. Now I don't know what to do! Buy a bottle? Keep smelling imps? Advice anyone???

Oh my. Let me see how I can describe this..... Have you ever been to a Renaissance Faire where they sell smoked turkey legs? And they might also have a nice, open fire, and perhaps it's night and you may also smell citronella candles? On my skin, Saturnalia smells like a smoked turkey leg mixed with wood smoke and a healthy dallop of citronella candle. Ick. Oh mah gawd, I need to wash this off before I barf. edited to note that it is SOOPER hard to get off of me. Sob! SOB SOB SOB!!!

Bat-winged, flame-eyed, and possessed of an unearthly, perfect beauty: the Daughters of Lilith, the Succubi, invade the dreams of men and lie with them in rapturous, unholy sexual union. The scent of their skin is bittersweet, dusky and terminally seductive. Mimosa, orange blossom, neroli and bergamot with a drop of sweet clove. Bring me your orange, and I shall love you. I LOVE orange in all it's forms. Why, then, am I not getting orange at all with this scent, when lots of others seem to? When I open the imp, all I smell is dusty automotive garage. Weird. On my skin, it is totally sucked up and disappears. Like in 30 minutes.

I love this! I didn't think I would, based on the notes described. It smells like a lemon-y Embalming Fluid. Oooooooo, how bottle worthy you are, Kumiho! If you like Embalming Fluid, this is a must try.

I must say first off that I don't like carnations. That being said, I don't know that I've ever smelled the lab's carnation. In the imp, it's strooooooongly cinnamon. And musky. On my skin, it had that "new age shop" smell that I contribute to a million different incense sticks. Must be the musk. I'm not so good with musk, sandalwood, and all those more earthy scents. Do I sound like a rube here? They all smell alike is what I'm trying to say! I've had it on about 40 minutes. What I like best about this particular scent, is that it goes through morphing stages. It is definetly not the same in the bottle, initially applied, after 20 minutes, and I hope it'll keep going through transitions until it finally fades. I think that's really fun, when you find an oil that does that. Keeps me sniffing my wrist!

It's springtime, so I'm all for floral, clean, fresh scents. Chuparosa fits that bill for me. Initially, I got very little rose, just a lot of clean soap. After about half an hour, it's still soapy, but I can smell the rose. It also has some aquatic notes to it, not sure what exactly. I like this. I do believe it's bottle worthy!

Frederic, you dirty old man, you! Wink wink! When I first got this, I refused to put it on. Smelling it was quite enough. Tonight I decided to give 'er a whirl. Freshly applied, Frederic smells like an older gent, maybe 60 - 70'ish. Silver white hair. Big white smiling teeth (persumably not his real ones). Dressed in a button down plaid shirt with a pull over v-neck sweater. I think it's burgandy. Hair greased over to the side. Grrrrrrrrr, he was quite a dish in the 1970's! After about half an hour, lecherous Frederic fades and from somewhere, I get a mature, ladylike "Frederica". She likes the expensive shops at the mall. She only wears the best parfum. She, too, like her male counterpart, is in the 60 - 70 range. I think this scent is too mature for me! Off to ebay, with you, Frederic!

Wow...weird. I didn't get any magnolia or lavander, and lily usually smells like hot dogs on me, but I did smell some delicious vanilla and a hint of lemon. Somewhere in there was some dill poking around. Or maybe not. Maybe that's just how it smells on me! I also smelled something like Antique Lace in the background. Wow....seems my review is weird! I like this and am glad I splurged and picked up a bottle. As a side note, this winds down quite nicely after a few hours and lingers well.

Verbena. I get a lemon-y scent right up front on this one. I had smelled this a long time ago when I was new to BPAL and got it from the lab as a frimp. Back then, to my untrained BPAL nose, I didn't like it. It's been almost a year. I thought I'd try it again. This time around, I can handle it. The lemon is very strong, with the sage and greens taking a backseat. After about 3 hrs., I can hardly smell it anymore, though. And that's ok. I'm not sure I'd want lemon sticking around all day! This would be an oil to wear in the morning for a pick me up, and then be able to change into something more sultry for later on.

I just received this from the lab today, and even though it was only 1 pm, I put it on. Not being in a "napping" position, I can't say how it'll work for sleeping. I can tell you that it smells very good. I get some vanilla, a little something like antique lace? Also some kind of foody scent, like white cookies or cake. I'm anxious to try it tonight for sleeping. I like this very much, but am not sure it'd be an everyday scent, due to it's overwhelming food aroma.

I expected more watery smells. I just got this one and Thunder Moon. I was sure Thunder would be stronger! And it is, indedy. I like the descriptive notes in this oil, but it doesn't last very long on me. Initially applied, it has almost a lemony undertone. I really liked that, but alas, it faded quickly. While this is a keeper, it won't make my top 10. Yet....

I can def. smell the water notes here. I usually shy away from anything aquatic, not because I don't like them, but because I feel they're too masculine. Thinking, hmmmmm....water-soaked summer blooms....that might fem it up a bit! And indeed, they do. This is a very nice, clean, soapy smell, but in the same breath - not too soapy, not like I just unwrapped a bar of Irish Spring. I could wear this and feel girly. A keeper!

Well, I'm not quite sure what pops up first when I open the bottle, but immediately I got the "Ick! Pumpkin!" reaction from my nose. I closed it up, popped it into my purse, and 10 minutes later decided to give it a second try. For some reason, a swirl of "new age store" kept lurking around. And now that it's on, it's quite nice! It started out strong. Almost too strong for me, but I kept it on and after about 3 hrs. it's faded down nicely. One thing I wish is that I could get more violet, black currant, blackberry leaf and strawberry out of it. I mean, it mingles fine, don't get me wrong, but I'd like to smell those particular scents more. It's very nice, though; really reminds me of those little shops I used to visit when I was a teenager. And wore all black. And had an attitude. Hmmmmm..... what's different from now?!?!?

Strange. In the bottle and upon first putting it on, it smells quite faint. When I first opened it and took a whiff, I was disappointed, thinking I'd never wear this because it would probably fade. On skin, after about 1/2 an hour, it is surprisingly strong! It reminds me of going to the mall with my Mom when I was little, and smelling all the expensive perfumes. I bought this because I've never tried the different scent notes in this one. Sakura, wisteria, something else....can't remember. But I wanted to know how they'd work on my skin. Strong, floraly, it's now starting to remind me of easter. Maybe because it almost IS easter. Hmmmm....more details to emerge later, I'm sure. I'll revisit this post and update after wearing for an hour or so.

I think it's the blackened fruit gums, which I equate to blackened teeth stumps, that makes this oil smell like the breath of someone who ate a bad bison burger, threw it up, put that in a ziploc baggie and left it in the sun for a week. It literally makes me catch my breath when I smell it. So I popped it up on eBay and now it shall have a new home with someone who appreciates bison burger vomit. But that person is not me. No offense to all who love it! I'm sure there's oils I love that someone else doesn't.

Caswell Massey's Elixir of Love #1 - Similar scents?
hellomoonglow replied to Aliera's topic in Recommendations
OMG, I LOVE Elixer of Love #1! There is nothing in BPAL that smells very close to it, so I would suggest layering. Now, as to which ones to layer.... I'll have to work on it and get back to you! My big box o' imps is at home. -
I picked Embalming Fluid and Faith as my 2 spring scents. EF smells a lot like green tea and Faith is just pure, unadulterated SPRING.
-
I received this as a frimp from the Lab with one of my very first orders. You know how it is when you're trying to re-train your nose to BPAL, everything smells strong and unusual. But not Black Opal. It reminded me of the perfume my babysitter wore when I was a child. It's a very comforting scent. I wouldn't say vanilla, but I do agree with the deep, creamy scent. On my skin it has some kind of strong, underlying scent. Not sure what it is. The best way I can describe it is a streak of gray. I know, that's weird. After about an hour, it fades away leaving just the creaminess. When I had gotten the imp, I poured it into a scent diffuser. It absoloutley scented the entire room and I loved it! Since then, I've purchased a bottle. Being as that it goes a little funky on my skin, I might stick to room scenting with this one. But I do love it and it brings back the feelings of childhood. A keeper!

I positively LOVE this! I really cling to anything with red currant, as it's one of my all time fave scents. Wet this has a sweet scent. On my skin, after only a few minutes it morphs into something very similar to Atrocious Attic, which I also really like. I've found myself swabbing this on my wrists before bed every night since it arrived! I say swab because I have a stash of wand caps and only the truly worthy scents are given the wand. Love it!

Khajuraho. Or as I like to think of it, Kajagoogoo. I'm a child of the '80s, afterall! In the bottle the sandalwood take the top note to my nose. I get a small waft of the rose. Normally I don't like BPAL rose. It smells too damp to me. But I believe damask rose has a more subtle scent. Tuberose, not sure what that smells like. Tea rose is also good, but I digress. On the skin it has a deep, rich perfumey scent. It's an excellent combination, although, like tuberose, I don't know what davana blossom, champaca flower or date palm smell like, either. But whatever they are, the mix beautifully. I also smell leather. I don't know where that's coming from. On dry down, it really fades. I find that happens sometimes, but that's ok. I'll just carry the bottle with me!

I just opened my mail and found the bottle I had gotten from a wonderful forumite has arrived! Yipee! First off, I love the label art. It's perfect. Secondly, this has such a strong smell on me, I'm having a bit of a hard time wearing it. I smell jasmine, and also coconut. And it's a bit soapy. I don't know what's in here that is giving me whafts of coconut, but that's ok - I love coconut. I actually really like this, but it is quite strong. I'm hoping it dies down to a dull roar. My office buddy is sniffling and not sure she likes it. As a side note, she said, "Is that just one oil or did you mix them?" I assured her that this oil needed no complimentary scents!

Oooooo! This is lovely! I'm so glad I bought 2 bottles! Wet it is quite lovely and warm. I love the sweet pea, which really opens up on my skin. Dry down, it almost smells like Midway or Marshmallow Poof, which is weird to me. It reminds me of something very silky, smooth and almost sweet. I'm taking this to Mexico with me next week along with a little pipet so I can squirt some in the bathtub water. That means it'll be my confirmed "vacation scent". I can't wait!

Diary of a Lovestruck Teenage Cannibal

I really really wanted to like this one, but to me, it smells like one of the Halloween Pumpkins. I did not even bother trying this on my skin. Pumpkin-y scents love me to pieces and tend to stick around for a long time, much to my chagrin. The descrip. sounded so interesting, I had to try/buy it with the hopes I'd like it. I don't care for the Pumpkins, so this was a disappointment for me. I swapped it with a forumite, happy to say! I did get a bunch of other goodies from DD and am looking forward to reviewing them! -

I like this one very much! The citrus really amps on my skin, which I like. I always think I won't like grapefruit, but BPAL grapefruit comes thru very nicely and doesn't have that initial BO scent. That's what it smells like to me for other brands - BO! This dries down nicely I read that someone said it is a bit soapy, and I get that, too. Not spicy on me. Overall I like this very much. -
Where is my order? What is Click N Ship? How long does this take?
hellomoonglow replied to Snow White's topic in BPAL FAQs
Oh my, yes. It takes almost a full month for me to get my stuff. I'm East Coast, they're West Coast.
