    Hearth

Excited to try a bpal classic! This is very strong on me. First off, I'm getting pipe tobacco, cherry, and a touch of smoke. Although beautiful, it's more of an atmosphere scent to me. Something smells slightly mentholly to me, like a Christmas tree. This one is quite strong on me, I'll probably throw it in my diffuser come the holiday season again, it's quintessential bpal to me.

    2017: Crystal Phoenix

This one is very similar to Crowley on me, which means it's pretty much a dude blend. Lots of leather and tobacco with a touch of patchouli. Not really getting anything else. This is a great blend, but too similar to Crowley to warrant any more.

    2006: Fruit Phoenix

Starts out slightly fruity with musk, then goes all sweet fruit. This ends up being dusty pom. Not for me.

    The Air and the Ether

Lavender and a kind of menthol vibe at first. It kind of reminds me a bit of Anesthesia, (I think I spelled that wrong). It is quite lovely, but my skin eats this one up, and I prefer Athenisia anyways. I'm sure I'll use this little dram for a sleep blend during the summer. eta: The menthol I was getting morphed into the ambergris. I really like this combination, and may upgrade to a bottle. I think it will age magnificently.

    2016: Ivory Phoenix

Pretty much SN Indonesian Clove on me. After a bit, the frank comes out, but this is pretty much all I'm getting. Though it's clove heavy, it is quite soft, and reminds me of Goth Queen. This isn't for me, I like Velvet Bandito for a good clove blend. Fans of Goth Queen may want to check this one out.

    2015: Lace Phoenix

This smells fresh and clean at first. Gradually, it becomes more like the traditional base to the lace blends. Kind of incensey and smoky. I really like this, it's like Black Lace's 'base', if you will. I'm looking forward to seeing how this Phoenix ages, but I don't think I need any more, as I have Black and Autumn Lace to satisfy my lace needs.

    The Sun Has Perished

Bitter, acrid and aggressive. There's some smoke here as well. This blend is not for me, but it was interesting to try a different kind of amber.

    Bathsheba

Kind of musky and fruity. Plum, but not a rich plum, a sickly sweet one, reminiscent of Hollywood Babylon, an utterly terrible scent on me. It almost smells like peach to me. Not great, but nice to try.
  9. Pretty much a masculine cologne type scent on me, which means I probably wouldn't wear it, but it doesn't mean that I don't like it! Primarily lots of metallic notes here, and I'm getting amber, though it's not listed. This is rich smelling, and sophisticated, a well dressed dapper dude blend. I like it! (But not on me)

    The Cup of Death

Lots of peach here! Maybe there's something a bit musky, but it does dry down to just the peach. Fun to wear, especially in the cold of winter.

    The Sun in Anger Swore

A frimp, Yay! I never ordered any of this series, so I feel lucky to try one of them out! This is an aggressive amber, there is a spiciness to it, and kind of a foul, dirty quality, though that quite isn't the right description, I just can't find the right word. "Herbal and scorched", above a few posts fits it a bit better, like burnt herbs. In spite of being an amber whore, this isn't something I'd wear, but it's nice to try.

    Indonesian Clove

Not clove to me, but Big Red. Not the rich, chewy clove I was expecting, and disappears pretty darn quick into a whisper of actual clove. Hhmph.

    2003: Cotton Phoenix

Snake Oil and lovely almond at first. It is very much like original Asp Viper, which I miss as the newer version isn't quite the same. I really like this, and am looking forward to how this ages. Not getting the Snow White or cotton anything, but it's still an awesome, warm blend.

    Blackcurrant Sufganiyot

Not a foody, but I love black currant, so I thought I would give it a try. Uber sweet, and pastry. Utter fail. Not sure why I even tried. I thought maybe the source currant would offset the other notes.

    Pumpkin Spice Perversion

There was a Pumpkin blend several years ago that smelled like this, a spicy Perversion. I'll see if I can find it in the reviews. This is nice, like fresh Perversion and spices. I didn't keep my Pumpkin blend from years ago, as I prefer my Perversion straight up. This will be nice for a change though:) It was Pumpkin 11 from 2008.48736-pumpkin-ii-2008

    2004: Paper Phoenix

Quite lemony it first. It reminds me of fresh Dorian, but not as musky with tea and lavender. Not getting the AL, though this may come out with a bit of aging. This is lovely, and I'm betting will just get even better with age. It reminds me of Serpentine as well, though this one is more lemony. A true win, and I think I may need a backup or three.

    Stealthily, Stealthily

Pretty much violet on me, kind of watery but quite soft and pretty with a touch of lavender. I accidentally ordered two decants, and I'm glad I did. It is slightly powdery, but it adds to its delicate beauty. I'm sure I'll use the decants in no time.

    Frostbitten Dorian

I was wary on how anything could improve my beloved Dorian, and I'm glad I went with my gut. There is far too much of the ice note here, and it's pretty much drowning everything Dorian out. There's an odd, fleeting fungus note here I sometimes get in certain bpal notes which adds to the unpleasantness. I wish I got what others are getting, and I'm sorely tempted to upgrade just to see if I got a ice heavy decant. I do get a lovely fresh lemon note at first, associated with fresh Dorian, but it is drowned out by the ICEBERG! Not my cuppa.

    Frostbitten Snake Oil

I dig most things Snake Oil, with the exception of Snake Can and Snake Oil Jelly Donut. I only got a dram, as I couldn't possible imagine Snake Oil and Snow White meshing very well at all. FWIW, I don't think there are 'two' snow notes, I just think it's gonna smell like Snow White if there is sweeter notes, or like Frost, trees, if there are notes like that combine to make it so. This starts out as fresh SO with a touch of minty snow, then Snow White. After a bit, it's the other way around. I don't mind it, and I just purchased a bottle, so I guess it holds promise. It is a fast fade, though and it 'just' landed in -20 weather, so it really is frost bitten I guess:) This is probably one of those blends that needs a year to age, and I'm in the camp where SO is the older the better!

    Black Rose

A very strong 'dark' rose. Not picking up any amber. This is the quintessential example of roses I do not like, strong, heavy and aggressive. Not for me, but nice to try.

    Broadway

This ends up being a red musk and incense on me. Not complaining, it will fill my need for red musk. I like this, and probably would be even more amazing layered with a honey and/or vanilla note. Kind of reminds me of The Grindhouse, but without the floral.
  22. This one is so nice in the bottle, mostly clove and light patchouli. On, it goes slightly pickle juice, and stays that way for about half and hour, then settles into a soft clove. I still can't get over the pickle juice, and I can still imagine the sourness even after it disappears. Really has so much promise, not sure what is the culprit. I'm going to hang on to it for awhile to see if it improves.

    Golden Champa Attar

I've been wracking my brain trying to figure out what this one reminds me of, and finally I got it. This is the incense used in Midnight on the Midway, which is one of my very favourite lab blends. It's hard for me to describe incense blends, but this one is very nice, golden and thick. I'm very glad to have a partial.

    Black Pomegranate

I love eating pomegranate, it's like candy to me. I guess I like it better blended with other notes, though, usually something dark like dirt, musk or incense. By itself, it's much too fruity. Upon smelling it, I do recognize this is in many blends. The lab likes pomegranate!

    Thirteen (13): October 2017

Starts off deep fake chocolate with dried fruit. Ends up powdered fake chocolate. FAIL.
