Fixed earth: the essence of ownership and possession. This blend assists you in seeing the truth of what you need while highlighting destructive desires that wound your soul so that you may purge them. It is the scent of determination and persistence, devotion and drive, bound by silks of raw sensuality. Rose absolute and Moroccan jasmine with ylang ylang, red sandalwood, black pepper, and red patchouli. Taurus is a study in two parts. On one side: petal-soft, gentle rose and jasmine. On the other: a dash of spicy black pepper and sharp ylang ylang. The red sandalwood and red patchouli make a bullish base for these forces to play out against. The notes that end up winning on my skin in terms of strength are the rose and jasmine and ylang ylang—these are the notes that last well into the drydown. If you love the rose and jasmine combo in Mata Hari, this might work for you...they smell similar in concert here as they do in concert there, at least to my nose. Very nice!

Cardinal water: moonlight dancing on the dark waters of a brooding, fertile river. This blend refines your intuition, sharpens your wit (perhaps too sharply?), and expands your emotional breadth. It is a scent of tenacity and eloquence, wry humor, and profound loyalty. Spring violets, white sandalwood, star jasmine, and cucumber with drops of lemon balm and mugwort. Blind Bottle Purchase from the lab. I'm a moon child Cancer and had to have it. IN THE BOTTLE: Water, cucumbers and unidentified flowers, but they "smell" bluish-light-purple. WET: Bitter floral. I'm not liking the wet. It reminds me of the water from a week old Tuberose vase. Pretty sure this is the Mugwort. Oh-no. DRY: After 15 minutes, the bitterness completely fades and Cancer turns into a breathtaking, watery floral. The blend of the floral with the cucumber squirt keeps it dewy with it's aquatic magic. I can also detect the smooth woodiness of the Sandalwood, giving it sweetness and depth. NOTES: While wearing this I am transported. Just now I was back in a bright, rocky northeastern shore. Walking along the crashing surf looking for shells. Starsign Cancer, represented by the Yin-Yang cannot exist without a balance of light and dark; goodness and sorrow. The harsh beginning of Beth's Cancer is a bitter blast of the beauty that is to come: after wearing this for a short time, it turns into the most beautiful, silver-blue jewel. I'm not sure if anyone but a water baby would understand the story this Starstruck fragrance tells, but it's definitely worth including in my collection-forever. It is a rare silver blossom floating in a crystal-blue-green sea. "Little Green", a song about a child born under the star sign Cancer always makes me cry a little when I hear it. "Just a little green Like the color when the spring is born There'll be crocuses to bring to school tomorrow Just a little green Like the nights when the Northern lights perform There'll be icicles and birthday clothes And sometimes there'll be sorrow." Joni Mitchell - Little Green

Cardinal fire: the essence of identity. An energizing blend that fosters willpower and helps bolster your spirit when your enthusiasm for life is on the wane. Perfect for initiating new projects, increasing momentum, and forcing yourself to explore your own boundaries. Dragon’s blood resin, wild gingergrass, black pepper, red musk, red sandalwood, rue, and basil. The red musk is strong in this blend! A little gingery, with just a hint of sandalwood. This is my first time trying Dragon's Blood resin, and I love it. I feel like I almost smell a little rosemary in this, but that must be the rue or basil. Anyway this is a great, resiny blend that I think will get a lot of use.

Fixed fire: the essence of ambition and confidence. This blend is the distillate of self-assurance and courage, a radiant golden halo of warmth, magnanimity, and loving faithfulness. Utilize this blend to bolster your self-esteem, to assist you in genuinely taking pride in yourself and your accomplishments, and access your inner splendor. Golden frankincense and sweet amber with Roman chamomile, angelica root, saffron, gilded carnation, and helichrysum. I wasn't sure if I was going to like this - the "golden" sorts of scents usually go powdery on me, but I AM LEO and I had to try it. Surprisingly, this isn't bad at all. It's cool and more floral in the bottle - I smell the carnation and the helichrysum, but the instant it goes on my skin, the amber and saffron warm up and say HELLO! It's very warm and very fuzzy, but while I now can only barely detect the carnation, the flowers keep everything balanced without smelling *floral*. After ten minutes or so on my skin, if I inhale really deeply, I almost smell something like butter cookies, although this is definitely not a foodie/gourmand scent, it's just a few molecules of buttery sweetness. It reminds me of a more intense version of The Butterfly from The Last Unicorn, which also has golden amber. It also kinda makes me think of The Hag without the bay rum.

Mutable Water: the essence of faith. This is the scent of belief, be it in oneself, mankind, the gods, our myths, or our potential. This is the willingness to explore the darkness, the push towards the edges of fantasy or delirium. This is the perfume of the Psychopomp and the Mystic, the Saint and the Madman; this is the scent of the lifegiving salt of blood and ocean, and the darkest depths of the sea. Red musk and brine, ships’ planks of thorny acacia, an indescribable abyssophelagic musk, soporific lavender, and a strange, sweet waft of benzoin. I had to try this because I had no idea what the notes would smell like combined. It's BPAL ocean scent combined with red musk. The musk is softened a little by the lavender and benzoin. It's not a strong lavender, I can barely tell it's there. But I can definitely pick out some sweetness from the benzoin. It smells...tender? Sometimes the red musk and wood is the strongest element, sometimes the lavender and benzoin are detectable. But the brine is always there. It's an effect a bit like rolling waves. There may be some inky almost berrylike musk underneath everything, it's hard to tell. Overall, it smells like red musk dryer sheets. It's cozy. On drydown the brine dials back some and the scent doesn't resemble an aquatic any more. I'm even more sure there's a dark blue musk somewhere here.

Cardinal air: the essence of balance. A blend of refined sensibilities: refined art, refined love, refined passion, and refined justice. Utilize this blend to enhance your appreciation of beauty and renew your fountain of artistic inspiration. It is a passionate blend, suffused with rose-tinted fire. The strawberries and roses of Venus gilded and polished into an urbane, elegant perfume by sheer white musk, mallow oudh, white incense, bourbon vanilla, red benzoin, and polished woods. In The Bottle: Subtle but fresh strawberry and perhaps a bit of that mallow. Wet On Skin: The strawberry reminds me of the original release of Strawberry Moon, from 2005. There's definitely an 'elegance' to this strawberry- this is not for tiny children. I get a hint of the 'polished woods' in the background, but it's mostly this sophisticated strawberry. Dry Down: The strawberry holds firm. I thought for sure I'd get some rose in this, but no, it's really mostly a 'dry' kind of strawberry. I get little to no hint of any of the other notes, which is very odd, but this is what had happened on my skin. In All: low throw, a subtle study in 'adult' strawberry. If strawberry is a beloved note for you, definitely get some of this. For myself, I will give it time to settle, but if it doesn't do something further for my skin, I have several beloved Libras who will no doubt be happy to have it!

Cardinal Earth: the essence of ambition. This is the scent of careful calculations, implacable determination, meticulous planning, authority, and reputation. Distinguished and profound, relentless and cunning, this perfume enables you to find a use for all things: ivy twining around Haitian vetiver, red poppy, sinuous oudh, black sandalwood, and smoky patchouli. Well, as a diehard Capricorn, I knew I HAD to have this blend since I missed the 2007 one. EVEN THOUGH... I suspected it would be a green/aquatic blend and I usually hate those. Priorities. In the bottle: Yes. Green AND aquatic. Of course. The vetiver is heavy-handed and the Capricorn in me is quietly perturbed. Skin: Really hoping the sandalwood comes out here. As a Capricorn, I feel compelled to say that (generalizing) Capricorns are moody, ambitious, dry-witted, and not particularly green or fresh. I feel like this blend deserves a bit more sandalwood and oud, for the sake of all Capricorns. It's more aquatic than earthy, and we're an Earth sign. Seagoats should have more earth to go with their water. ;D Drydown: Oh thank fish. With drydown, a bit of resin comes out. I don't know what poppy smells like (guess I should go to England to find out!) so I don't know if that's showing up or not. But I'm not smelling anything I can't identify so... It's still too aquatic for me, but the sandalwood, patchouli, and oud are warming it up a bit after 10-15 minutes. I think I'll pack it away and see how it does in 6 months or so. Maybe it will be a bit earthier by then.

Fixed water: the essence of desire. A scent of intensity and secrecy, passion and plots: the dark moon reflecting the shadows hidden within the depths of the ocean. This is a perfume of hidden knowledge, self-examination, and reflection, and of drawing out the poisons in your soul so that you may heal. Black patchouli and blackberry, mandrake root and pomegranate, myrrh and black copal, mugwort and pennyroyal. This is a fun diversion from my usual scents. As a Scorpio, it was an insta buy! I am not an adept scent reporter, but I will give this my best shot. <3 In the bottle: Blackberry and pomegranate, with a hint of mugwort/pennyroyal (not sure which, but a semi dried herb is present). Neither of the fruits are sweet, but they do have a slight brightness. I am not getting patchouli at all. Wet: Same, with a brightening of the berry and pom. There's an incense hanging out back there too. The herbs are sneaking up. Dry: This smells like a place I have been. I have images of dried bright flowers and big clay pots. The berry and pom are still jamming. Renaissance faire? but without the turkey leg... I am not sure where this takes me but I like it. Certainly a cold weather scent for me.

Fixed Air: the essence of knowledge. Not the possession of knowledge, per se, but the desire for knowledge, the path itself, and the drive to seek truth, both personal and universal. This is a scent of progressiveness, modernism and intellectual curiosity, and of unpredictability and independence. This is the perfume of the humanist and inventor, electric with caprice: clove, mastic, and spikenard with benzoin, tonka, sweet vetiver, frankincense, and white pepper. I've been waiting for this one to come out and was super curious about how it would smell, since I'm an Aquarius. This review isn't going to be very exacting since I'm not really all that seasoned when it comes to BPAL perfumes. Usually, I stick to the safer sounding stuff outside of trying out frimps. In Bottle: There's a lot going on. I don't know a lot of these notes, but I think I smell cloves and frankincense, at least. Wet on Skin: I think I smell pepper and tonka as well. The perfume as a whole is sort of making me think of cinnamon, but not quite. It's sweeter and more medicinal. Maybe some of that is the benzoin, but that's one of the notes I don't know. An opinion I got is that it smells like lily of the valley. I don't know what that specific flower smells like, but I'll admit this does kind of have a general lily smell. Approx. 1 Hour Later: It was basically the same by that point. Occasionally, it would morph a bit in terms of which notes were stronger, but it smelled overall the same. I think this one is a keeper. While I'm not sure if it's as much of my style as other perfumes I've tried, it's interesting, and I think I'll wear it once in a while. I'd say the closest other full-size perfume I have to this one is probably Nasty Woman, though there's certainly differences.

Mutable Earth: the essence of duty and analysis. This is a perfume of altruism, introspection, and wisdom found from within. This blend can be utilized to enhance critical thinking, mental dexterity, and problem-solving skills, spark creativity, and sharpen the wit. Like Virgo, this scent is elegant in its presentation while unexpectedly complex in its inner composition: a dazzling chypre, glittering with sardonic humor, that is grounded by sweet aged patchouli and uplifted by lemon verbena. First off.... this. is. Amazing. <3 :::heart eyes::: In the bottle: it smells..darker then on my skin. Beautiful, heady, lemon verbena, softened with a shadowy dose of skin musk and yet, merry and elegant, just as the description says. How does she do that?! The glitter or dazzle is very soft in this, not a forwardly fizzy scent, as some can be when she describes them that way, but it plays far underneath, down at the base of the notes. There is something else, soothing and amber-brown in this...a whisper of wood. Wet- same. Dry on my skin: It's lovely, autumn foresty yellow - but just at the end of Summer, when the colors are changing but life is still vibrant. As is wears, the skin musk (?) comes forward and so does the fizz, just a wee. Catching wiffs of this from my neck and hair the next morning, is enchanting. I may need another bottle of this because yes.

Mutable fire: the essence of optimism. This is a perfume of energetic positivity, freedom, exploration, tolerant idealism, and spontaneity. This is the scent of the wandering philosopher, the fearless adventurer, and the outspoken activist. Rugged cedar and white pine, wise rowan and California white sage, soft mosses, well-worn leather, peppery tomato leaf, and fiery saffron. As a Sag rising and someone who loves BPAL's leather note, I decided this was worth going for. It smells *amazing* in the bottle -- fresh pine and woods with something bright and spicy hanging around (the saffron, maybe?). Once it's on, the pine unfortunately fades on me fast, but the leather note amps up more -- the sort of softer leather note in scents like Dead Leaves, Raw Leather, etc. The tomato leaf also gets more prominent, bringing something green and peppery to the scent. The end result is a slightly spicy green scent with the leather note grounding it. Throw is fairly good, and it does last long. While I like the end result on well enough, I do miss the pine note once it goes away. It is a little bit on the masculine side, but I still think anyone could wear it.

Mutable air: the essence of enthusiasm and versatility. This blend enhances your psychological and spiritual dexterity, and will assist you in spinning metaphorical plates so deftly and skillfully that none will fall and shatter. Dab a little on when you need a reminder of life’s unconventional joys and the thrill of the strange. White bergamot, mint, frankincense and elemi with a drop of bitter clove. this starts out as a beam of light citrus over a soft slice of resin. I'm guessing it's the frank, but it has a slightly sandalwood feel to me. as it dries down, the clove comes out more and the citrus and mint meld together and shine brightly. clove has not been historically kind to me, but whatever the lab has been doing/using for the past year works brilliantly on my chemistry. fans of Imperfect Enjoyment and Looming Spectre will find it playing similarly here. dries down to a unisex colognesque scent with a citrus edge. light in spirit, perfect in throw and still getting hints of it this morning. very glad my instincts pushed the "add to cart" button.
