BPAL Madness!

Recommended Posts

Blackberry hops, blackened raspberry gum, purple chypre, and myrrh.

Thou wert fair in the fearless old fashion,

And thy limbs are as melodies yet,

And move to the music of passion

With lithe and lascivious regret.

What ailed us, O gods, to desert you

For creeds that refuse and restrain?

Come down and redeem us from virtue,

Our Lady of Pain.

This is a well-blended ethereal raspberry cloud!

I can pick out the tartness from the blackberry and the sweetness of the raspberry, but it's hiding within that cloud of light resins and chypre. I don't normally enjoy resins or chypre, but these are subtle. Not too woody or incense-like.

The myrrh is leaning more stone than earth. Again, very subtle. There's a faint hint of citrus at first, which could be the chypre because it's not woody at all. That hint disappears on the skin.

It's sweet in the bottle, but I basically end up with a light & dry mysterious raspberry resin on the skin.

It reminds me of a less complicated version of Elf Mutiny. I like this 10x better!

Deep blackberries. Definitely a berry scent, and is that deep, almost wine fresh scent more than anything else. Blackberry does strongly dominate on me. There is a touch of resin here, but it deepens the berry notes, instead of taking away from their freshness. The other notes add to the blackberry and give it this deep purple quality, though I cannot pick out those notes on their own. Overall, almost a blackberry single note on me, especially deep, purple, and berry fresh.

For me this is a fuzzy purple blackberry scent with myrrh in the background.  Myrrh sometimes amps on my skin but it's pretty well behaved here.  There's a suggestion of chypre but it's mostly like a blackberry incense scent (I'd love to smell the purple chypre accord on its own).  My only complaint, I'm trying to think of a word, it's a little murky maybe or just everything blended together in a way that doesn't do much on my skin.

This is absolutely a lovely scent but somehow it just doesn't grab me like Blackberry Moon, which I have 2 bottles of.  I'll enjoy the rest of my decant of this for sure.  It might be better on my skin when fall comes around and the weather cools off.
