ArtemisPrime Report post Posted February 26 Hello fellow BPAL fans! Looking for recommendations for BPAL scents, specifically ones that are consistent with my current faves (and not-faves). I'm still new at identifying common notes between successes or failures... totally open to suggestions for my next order! Especially anything in GC, I love throwing in a bunch of imps to try.... My top four fragrances, the ones I absolutely love are: The Harpy Celaeno Fearsome, wild, dark, powerful but unexpectedly quiet, tapers to gorgeous subtlety The Bow & Crown of Conquest Mysterious and deep! Subtle but complex. Ruminating. The Scales of Deprivation Spicy, old, haunted, sexy, deep… love this one!!! "Horny ghost"? Lol Sed Non Satiata Rich, dark, fruity, mysterious... tapers to sweet but not cloying I've used a spreadsheet to keep track of all the BPAL I've tried, and the micro-reviews are based on on-skin performance. Happy to share here, but I've copied info below so it's easier to see: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1A5Tck0w1wsMTnhjAbOL_GZDAWvwmdYVFRpNDey21-S4/edit?usp=sharing Here are the scents I like a lot, but am not deeply infatuated with them (as above): Rapture Smells like neon orange candy, then settles to good balance with flowers/myrrh A Deadly Terror that had Seized Upon All Sweet and sinister, cheerful and dark Al-Shairan Dark and alluring spice, slightly burnt... like an evil Christmas? Crowley Dark and moody, but comfortable and welcoming. Smells relaxing. Hetairae Fruity, but ....evil? lol some smokiness on skin, lovely Horreur Sympathique Sweet, a bit woodsy, feels like potential… smells like a quiet Christmas morning The Forest Reverie Happy killer bees, with a mossy undertone The Last Unicorn Sad, sweet, cold, wild, a little bit sharp in a pleasantly weird way And a list of scents that were good, but fell short of the others: Blood Kiss Croquet Simple, and very, very sweet -- a bit like a strawberry cake on a new oak table. Dead Leaves: Black Tea Starts out too noisy, but softens after a couple hours into something lovely. Elf I like this one a lot, but it's too sweet and innocent for me personally. Hell's Belle lemon doughnuts and incence Kubla Khan Subtle, soft, a bit powdery La Petite Mort Starts smelling like an attractive persons underwear drawer, ends as suntan lotion New Orleans Floral, but more mysterious than sweet. Settles to slightly powdery, which I don't love, but still dark. Philologus A little quieter than I usually prefer; a bit soapy Red Queen Loud cherry candy, eventually softens to subtle wood notes. And these ones didn't work on me at all: Brusque Violet Eat Me Highwayman King of Hearts Mary Shelley Monk Oberon Paramatman Pride Robin Goodfellow Smokestack The Robotic Scarab Zephyr Anyhow, happy to hear what some other scents worth trying might be, based on what's worked (and not worked) above! Thank you in advance ❤️ Share this post Link to post
ShadowEtienne Report post Posted February 26 Based on what you've liked, a few of the Picnic in Arkham scents (GC) might appeal to you: Azathoth, Shub-Niggurath, and maybe R'Lyeh or Nyarlathotep. It might be worth checking if there are notes that are showing up a lot in the stuff you are liking (for example, glancing through things you've liked, I saw a few with vetiver as a shared note), and then looking at other GCs that have that note. Having a list of notes you tend to enjoy (and finding shared notes of things that you don't) can help make it easier to spot the stuff that will appeal to you. Share this post Link to post
Rayleigh Report post Posted February 26 I love The Scales of Deprivation and The Bow & Crown of Conquest. Here are a few others I love that remind me a bit of those: Paladin (Immaculate white musk, sweet frankincense, bourbon vanilla, white leather, and shining armor.) I get a lot of the frankincense and a smooth white leather, lightly sweetened with bourbon vanilla. Has a cleanness to it without smelling soapy. No. 93 Engine (Balm of Gilead, benzoin, frankincense, balsam of peru, beeswax, saffron, galbanum, calamus, hyssop, mastic, lemon balm, and white sage.) The beeswax gives this a glowing warmth. It's sweeter, but has similar complexity. Dee (soft English leather, rosewood and tonka with a hint of incense, parchment and soft woods.) One of my favorite scents ever. Cozy, dry, papery incense and lived-in brown leather. Share this post Link to post
