Snow Moon: Yuzu and Blackcurrant

Yuzu and Blackcurrant.

This is mostly about the yuzu, backed by the much lighter blackcurrant, and it stays that way throughout wear. That said, this veers into cologne territory on me, and I'm not sure why, as those two notes wouldn't normally do that on me... maybe it's the way they combine together? There's also a slight earthiness to the blackcurrant after the scent has been dry for hours, like there's a hint of red patchouli here, but maybe my nose was imagining things.  

 

Although I generally love yuzu, I was surprised to not love this one. I really have no idea why it morphed into cologne with a bit of earthiness on me. I'll stick with Grapefruit, Yuzu, and White Musk.

The blackcurrant dominates the yuzu on me. But I had a similar experience where the combination of the two makes this soapy, spicy scent that I can't place. I was anticipating tart, but this is beyond that. These two notes don't play nice with each other on my skin, making for an unpleasant head scratcher.

Lab bottle: This interesting and more complex than I was expecting. It starts off crisp and classy, and as it warms, the blackcurrant comes out more. I can see how that could be construed as soapy territory. It's thankfully not too heavy or strong, otherwise I don't think I'd like it as much. I think it's a wintery scent, all in all!

The part of this with more immediate throw on me is the bright, fresh yuzu. It's tart and refreshing and a little bit bitter in a good way.

 

The blackcurrant takes a little longer to show up, but it is grounding. The deep rich scent of blackcurrants with slightly bruised skins, bringing in the barest touch of sweetness to the scent that helps balance the yuzu.

 

I feel like this is going to be a good one for layering, but I already like it on its own.
