doomsday_disco Report post Posted July 5 Inspired by a strawberry-tinted albino corn snake that I met many, many years ago – strawberry-infused Snake Oil with a froth of marshmallow fluff and a hint of vanilla sugar.
marared Report post Posted July 10 TLDR: Goth Lolita Strawberry Shortcake. Dark but cute. This is plastic strawberry bathed in cool, sweet musk. This is not a realistic fruity scent, nor is it the sugary gourmand I think some people might have been hoping for - the vanilla and the marshmallow are very low key, and while the Snake Oil is detectable, it is also not very strong. The scent sits close to my skin and remains sweet strawberry musk even 15 minutes later. I feel like this would layer well with a wood-scent like hinoki or ho. Because this IS a Snake Oil blend, odds are pretty good this is going to morph with time and become smoother and richer. A comparable scent would be A Portrait from Fatherhood 2022, with more musk than patchouli.
VioletChaos Report post Posted July 14 If I had to compare this scent with another, for me what comes closest is Australian Copperhead from Carnival Diabolique's Snake Pit. It's the combination of Snake Oil and the Acai Berry in that one that I recall as I sniff the strawberry / Snake Oil mix in this one. Full disclosure, I am one of those for whom fresh SO doesn't really work. For me, fireworks don't really kick off for, at the *very* least, a month. Six months is better, a year is far better and a decade or more is best. (Not kidding: slowly working my way currently through a 10mL bottle of Snake Oil from 2006 or so and it's just about the love of my life!). I mention this because there's a way that Snake Oil needs time and patience to settle into itself. Fortunately, this strawberry is NOT going plastic on me! It's retaining its sweet, fruity self in much the same way the fruit is forward and sweet-tart in Copperhead. And because of that, I have every reason to believe that this latest iteration of Snek is going to be a fine addition to my collection. In all: if you love all the Snakes OR you like your SO blends with a bit of fruit, you will likely want to snag Serpent in the Berries sooner rather than later! tinyvulture Report post Posted July 21 It’s Snake Oil paired with a gentle synthetic strawberry (compared to the realistic, tart strawberry of Pink Moon ‘24.) Sweet and darkly syrupy. Where Pink Moon is cheerful and cute, this blend is alluring and sexy. I love them both!
ReallyZeb Report post Posted July 24 This is lovely! In the bottle it's quite synthetic fruit but happily it morphs into rich dark berries with a tiny background of Snake Oil. I'm interested to see how this ages as this impression is obviously straight out of the box.
Little Bird Report post Posted July 30 I love gourmand Snake Oils. The Serpent in the Berries smells like it could be in a family with Snake Oil Sufganiyot and Snake Oil Jelly Donut, with this one smelling like pie. The berries smell more like blueberry, black currant, and blackberries to me, not really strawberry, which I am very happy with (a little more like tart strawberry in the mix after about 3 hours). The marshmallow and vanilla sugar add a little creaminess and a sugary crust. It really makes me smell like a dark, sexy, berry pie. The Snake Oil adds an undercurrent of mysterious darkness and slight earthiness. I think the vanilla sugar adds to the impression of flaky, airy, sugared pie crust. When I wear this, I keep thinking of The Kitchen Magpie's Saskatoons N' Cream Pie, which I always wanted to make, but I was never able to find saskatoons, not even when I lived in Canada. I'll be buying a few backup bottles of this gem. A fruity, summery, sweet version of Snake Oil.
doomsday_disco Report post Posted September 12 This Snake Oil variant isn't my cup of tea. There's just something with the way that the musk combines with the candy-like strawberry that smells funky on me. I'm not able to pick out the marshmallow fluff or vanilla sugar. It's synthetic strawberry plus musk for the longest time, before settling into synthetic strawberry plus Snake Oil's spices by the end of the day. I'm not planning to keep the decant around to see how it ages, as I have so many Snake Oil variants in my collection, that I don't think I need to see if this one will get better with age. I think the fake strawberry plus musk will always be too much for me, sadly.
sudenmorsian Report post Posted October 5 I knew I was going to love this serpent and oh my, I really do. The Serpent in the Berries reminds me of strawberry-flavored antibiotic medicine that I got when I was a child with an ear infection I get all the listed notes. Strawberry, or actually berries in general in this, are synthetic and a bit medicinal. Marshmallow and sugar sweetens the berries and musky Snake Oil is noticeable but subtle, earthy and lightly dark. I bet this is going to age wonderfully. Poenari Report post Posted October 6 I tend not to care for strawberry notes on my skin, but had to blind bottle this because I do adore Snake Oil and so many of its variants. I'm glad I did! On my skin this scent is unmistakenly Snake Oil with a sweeter drydown; a syrupy fruitiness at the end that ensures it is not exactly Snake Oil alone. It doesn't go plasticky as strawberry usually does. It is a lovely rendition of a berried Snake Oil, just as it says. This works so much better on me than Kinda Sorta Snake Oil Cream Soda. It's sweet but not milky creamy, as that one is. I didn't want to get a backup bottle of this but I might need to before it's gone!
