You stopped at a secret artisinal foodie's breakfast cafe where they stone-grind their own buckwheat and distill cauldrons of tree sap for house-made syrup. The boiling sweet steam perfuses the French roast. I actually sweeten my coffee with sorghum molasses instead of sugar. It brings a caramelized, smoky sweetness that I swear I smell in (i)HoP. I also smell the earthy, mineralic buckwheat, a generous pour of syrup, a pinch of pie spice, and a hint of buttery fried dough. It's rich and nutty and nuanced, and I've drenched my bathroom in it. It's not like any of the other "foodie" blends I can recall - it fits with the medieval vibes of Labors of the Months. It reminds of me of those times when I've stayed at a hotel and used it as an excuse to grab everything semi-forbidden for breakfast, especially a fluffy stack of syrup-drenched, butter-slathered pancakes, except the syrup here isn't the imitation stuff but that elusive dark maple syrup you can really only find at farmers' markets a way off. The steaming mug of black coffee next to that plate is definitely not decaf. As if this isn't enough, a donut fresh out of the fryer has been sneaked in there as well, and it makes itself known. SurrealReality Report post Posted November 20, 2024 (edited) I was hesitant about this one because maple syrup and I don't really get along. Too sweet for me. But I decided to give it a try anyway. General Impression: Very sweet, rich, gourmand. Notes I can smell: Bitter-sweet coffee, fluffy pancakes, butter, maple syrup, and a light cinnamon sprinkle. As expected, this is a very sweet scent. However, there is less syrup and more coffee than I had anticipated, which helps to cut the sweetness a bit. I would say the coffee is the strongest note (and it is a strong coffee). A pat of butter melts over the pancakes, blending in with the maple syrup. Delicious and very realistic, truly smells like I could actually stick a fork in them. There is also a hint of cinnamon coming from somewhere. Very mild though. At first I thought one bottle would be plenty. After having used it a few times, I'm gonna need at least two.
