Dead Leaves, Burnt Marshmallows, Clove Cream, and Whiskey

Recommended Posts

I had a small hope this might overlap with my old Gorobble - think it's not going to be quite that.

In the bottle: like spicy wet dead leaves

Wet on the skin:  there's something sweet coming up, but it's mostly spicy dead leaves, they don't smell like wet leaves anymore, though.

Dry down:  the burnt marshmallow never came out for me, not much I would identify as whiskey, either. The clove cream is definitely on top - I think I might amp clove, though? Dead leaves settle down in the background, present, a bit crunchy, but definitely second fiddle to clove cream.

In the bottle: Smoky and spice heavy, overwhelmingly clove and a subtle fruitiness I attribute to the whiskey.

Wet on skin: The sweetness starts to come out, still clove-heavy, but there are layers to the scent and a deeper earthy-ness.

Dried down, an hour later: Clove has balanced with sweetness, with a hint of smoke - the burnt marshmallow. The fruitiness comes at the end, met with the earthy smell I assume to be the dead leaves. I feel like I'm in a bubble of scent that is very spice-forward, but deeply reminds me of autumn. A wonderful scent that I will be wearing all season.

Red, dark brown dry leaves enveloped in a scorched and warm layer of whiskey. I don't smell any clove cream or marshmallow. It's not an in your face boozy blend, but more in the vein of booze-generated warmness and scorched smoky something melding in with the dry dark brown leaves texture.

This is slightly reminiscent of DL, Roasted Almonds and Bourbon, which had a MUCH MUCH MORE pronounced boozy roasted vibe. These DLs are more approachable and the whiskey + the scorched element bring a really nice and warming touch.

On my skin the clove stands out strongly, but it's a cozy clove so maybe the cream part is coming through a little bit.  I can't specifically pick out burnt marshmallows but after a while, I'm reminded of a sweet and salty treat of some kind.

The dead leaves are at about "medium" level in this one.  And I can detect the whiskey but it's a background note for me.

Sometimes clove can be tricky on me and this does teeter on the edge of "aftershave", but never quite topples over.  It just keeps going and going, reminding me of a cozy baked sweet treat that's maybe a teensy bit salty.  Or maybe a sweet and salty taffy of some kind, almost like licorice (it doesn't smell like licorice but somehow I keep thinking of it).  I only bought a decant but I keep bringing my wrist up to my nose, and I'm thinking about upgrading to 5ml.
