BPAL Madness!

Recommended Posts

The secret to this treat is the apple cider reduction infused in the dough. What you dunk it in is up to you!

(Please do not dunk your nether bits or any other sensitive body parts into this oil.)

This was a surprise, as I'm normally not into super foodie/sweet smells.

In the bottle it's a bright fresh apple with a solid sweetness, but not the sugar note I remember from big sugar bomb perfumes I've previously tried.

Wet: there's a warm pastry smell that definitely reminds me of donuts, but apple is still king. I think I expected more cinnamon-sugar in this.

Dry: lovely warm apple bake, but not super sweet and definitely not sugary. Really nice!

APPLE APPLE APPLE

Both in the bottle and freshly applied wet this smells of nothing else but apples. I actually wasn't sure if I liked it, but once it really had a few hours to dry down I finally was able to get a hint of the cider. Now about four hours later I get spiced cider donut and the apple is almost totally gone

I live in the midwest and we have a very well-known place that makes fresh and hot apple cider donuts rolled in white sugar. You get them hot from the fryer and we eat them with a jug of apple cider. I bring cups, napkins and wet wipes so we can eat them in the car because in my opinion, they become regular old donuts once they've cooled. They are hot so you get a crispy outside and a pillowy interior.. they melt in your mouth. When I saw this scent, I wanted it for nostalgia purposes. Sadly, it misses the mark for me personally. It's a nice apple cider scent but I get no real donut notes... I was hoping for that oil and cooked dough note. i wish I could post a photo for you of the donut. LOL

Delicious! Pure apple cider, apples  + spices + that BPAL cider note, over a murmur of warm pastry. I'd say it is more cider than donut, but the donut is there, in the background, like you bought it to eat with your cider and the scent of it is wafting up. I love this one!

So I had the same experience as mineralgirl (minus living in the midwest or having access to any fresh apple cider doughnuts --- I always have to get them from Trader Joe's and then reheat them in the toaster oven to reactive the cidery goodness). To me, this is a nice non-spiced apple cider scent, but I'm not getting much doughnut at all. I didn't deathmatch the two, but the final drydown ends up being kind of creamy and reminds me of the 2014 version of Hard Cider Cake without the hard aspect of the cider.

I debated a bottle when this was available, but went with a decant after remembering my peach doughnut experience. I'm glad I went that route. I think I'll keep my decant to have an apple cider scent to wear during the fall that it's isn't loaded with spices, but I really do wish it were more doughnut-y!
