BPAL Madness!

A scarecrow’s cologne, crunchy with hay and spattered with foamy, sweet soil: a cornmeal fougere with patchouli root, clove bud, honey stout, roasted oats, fermented apple pulp, and bourbon cream.

I hesitated in purchasing this bottle, as I have at least 3 other Harvest Moon iterations, and while I do like them and wear them, they have all seemed fairly similar.

This one, however, was worth getting!!   Don't let the words "cologne", "fougere", or "patchouli" scare you off.   It seems very unisex to me.  At least for me, the main notes are the ones I was hoping for:  the clove bud, the fermented apple pulp, and the bourbon cream.  The cornmeal/hay/honey stout/roasted oats provide a warm, sweet, comforting, mealy base.  And make no mistake: there is some booziness, yes!  I don't really detect the soil or the patchouli, but there is a groundedness about this scent to which they perhaps subtly contribute.

This scent would have fit well in the 2022 Labors of the Month collection, I think, a collection I continue to love.  And while Harvest Moon 2024 might have a touch of "fall harvest season candle" vibe to it, it's a wonderful autumnal scent that I will reach for often.

I agree with wendyb! This Harvest Moon is quite gourmand and definitely not cologney.

I was hoping for more recognizable corn/cornmeal, but I mostly get oats and apples, with a little bit of spice from the clove. The honey stout is adding sweetness for sure, but if I hadn't checked the notes, I wouldn't have guessed honey or beer. When freshly applied, I think I did get a bit of the soil note and maybe a little scratchiness from that and the patchouli, but they merge into the background and provide just enough edge to keep the scent from being too sweet.

It is very strong, even basically fresh out of the mail, so I'll be curious to see how it settles.

Earthy in the bottle, but the apple really blooms on my skin. As it settles it's a nice balance between earthy patchouli and oats (with just a touch of soil) and soft, spiced apple. A warm, cozy, essence-of-autumn scent.
