Midnight Marzipan

A Winter Solstice gourmand: a ground almond snowpack glistening under a chilly scattering of sugar-bright stars, standing out against a night sky of the darkest cacao.

the almond in this comes off like a super juicy cherry at first. then it dies down and you get a light almond. the chocolate here is so delicious. i don’t believe it’s dark cacao, it’s more like a milk chocolate but not super sweet, it’s just not dark or unsweetened. it kinda gives me half milk half water hot chocolate vibes. this smells so smooth and the tiniest bit creamy. it’s definitely more of a skin scent. you’ve either gotta put a lot on, cuz if not you’re only gonna be able to smell it by putting your nose right where you placed it. this does remind me of a chilly starry sky night. it’s very pretty and inoffensive

Straight out of the bottle this is strong on the almond and chocolate. Initially I thought this would be too gourmand for my tastes, but it does that magical thing that many bpal's do and it morphs as it dries down. I smell Snow White dna! I am left with cocao dusted Snow White and I love this stage. As the above poster said, this stays closer to the skin. Very cuddly. Very Yule!

 

edited to add: I am so very curious if my nose is interpreting a combination of notes as Snow White in this blend or if others will get this impression, too. 😊

I braced myself for the marzipan in this one; I didn't even realize I did it, but when I finally smelled what was actually happening in the scent, I realized I had been holding my breath. Though I love marzipan --adore it!-- both in scent and taste, it can overwhelm with the high-pitched peal of sugary sweetness. What I got instead was the deep, full, resonant, sonorous richness of barely sweet, dark, dark chocolate. The marzipan was a soft, trilling frill, fluttering at the edges. A duet between Darth Vader and Megan Mullally, where the Dark Side of the Force becomes velvet cocoa-dusted truffles and somehow makes Karen Walker's signature giggle feel like sugared almond stardust on snow.

Seconding Ziggy on the "cacao-dusted Snow White." This is lovely! A holiday mouthful of high-quality dark-chocolate-covered marzipan, with a hint of winter night air. Not overwhelming or cloying, and very wearable.

I also agree that this is cacao-dusted Snow White. There's a ton of cacao sludge in the bottle, so you would think that it would be waaay more chocolate-y than it ends up being. It starts off as a piece of chocolate-covered marzipan with an edible smelling cherry/almond note that also reminds me of those Italian Rainbow Cookies. But that is fleeting, and it quickly morphs into Snow White with just a hint of cacao in the background.

 

While I was hoping this would be heavier on the cacao, I adore Snow White, so I'm not mad.

At first this is all sweet, nutty almond (like sniffing almond extract in the bottle) and cacao on my skin. As it dries I get the Snow White! The snow and almond notes end up most noticeable on my skin, sometimes more of one or the other when I go back and sniff. The cacao is a low base note underneath. Gorgeous!
