BPAL Madness!

Recommended Posts

The mists that slept on the river’s brim.
Went up like the wings of the cherubim.

The water-lilies so cold and fair
Were tangled with tresses of bright brown hair.

The osiers bent with a quiet grace
over a form with a still, white face.

The river flow’d with a desolate moan,
And dead leaves fell on the cold grey stone.

– Sarah T. Bolton

A mist-shrouded river, laden with sorrow: water lilies, wild plum, carrot seed, jasmine petals, and yellow bergamot pouring over moss-covered stones.

This really does have such a chilled, melancholy feeling to it! I am enjoying wearing it on this very cold day where I am.

This is a lovely aquatic. On me it's predominantly cold river water rushing with bergamot and a very clear, almost herbal jasmine. There's this earthy grittiness beneath which I identify as the moss-covered stones and actually really enjoy; it gives the scent this effective atmospheric feeling. I don't think I can distinctly pick out the water lilies, plum, or carrot seed, though the perfume as a whole has a layered complexity which makes it clear there are other notes there.

My only disappointment in it is that the longevity is pretty low - it fades substantially a couple hours into wearing it. Maybe apropos for a misty river, but I would prefer to have it stick around longer!

Fresh, cold, and indeed melancholic in the imp. Lilies and moss. I don't think I've tried anything with carrot seed, but looking it up I think I'm getting a fresh green woodiness in there. Unfortunately as it settles on my skin the moss pretty much takes over, and something is going screechy on me in concert with it. Skin chem fail.

I almost skipped this Lunacy blend, but I'm glad that I ultimately ordered it.  It reminds me of blends like Sea of Glass and Bayou with their smooth, blue-green water feel, but a bit chillier and brighter (from the bergamot) like Sea of Glass and not as mossy as Bayou.  It wants to veer soapy but it never goes to full on soap on me.  I love the jasmine in here.  It makes me think of jasmine vines that are a bit scraggyl and salt-crusted on a seaside cliff, but the sweet, sunny jasmine blooms still come through, and the beach below is covered in sea glass that's shimmering in the sun and chilled from the water.  Recommend if you like Sea of Glass, Bayou, and jasmine.
