doomsday_disco Report post Posted February 5 Lady of the Unicorn skull – queens escape to majestic mountain air, lace parasol and riding gloves in hand, corseted and bustled, heart filled with longing. An early 19th-century Italian perfume dabbed on black satin and lace – magnolia blossoms, lilac, orris root, and ambergris accord.
SmellsPrettyGood2Me Report post Posted February 16 (edited) This was an atypical buy for me as I rarely grab a floral! But the label art here was just too beautiful and I had to give it a try. In the bottle, the magnolia and lilac are fighting each other for dominance, with a wet greenness backing them up. On skin, the transformation is remarkable; I can literally smell the flowers being diffused on black satin with a hint of lace. Wearing this I am a young widow walking down a street in St Augustine, FL, mourning the husband who, before he drowned crossing the ocean, used to bring me perfume from Europe as a token of his affection. Incredibly well crafted. Edited February 16 by SmellsPrettyGood2Me
MonBon Report post Posted February 26 Dreamy lilac & creamy magnolia! The daintiest romantic Victoriana vibes, pretty as a portrait. A magical spring deity has graced your presence, this is what Lorrainna radiates. Probably my fave lilac I've ever tried, ethereal to the max. Impressive longevity 7+ hrs, medium throw. 💜 absolutely delightful!
roseus Report post Posted March 12 In the imp I get almost equal magnolia and lilac, but on my skin it is definitely more about the lilac. Waxy, cool, dainty. A touch of warm muskiness from the ambergris.
Assimbya Report post Posted April 4 (edited) The magnolia trees in my area have started blooming, and I've been really intensely craving magnolia scents as a result! And since lilac is another very very favorite note of mine which I don't have that many perfumes that showcase (except my dear Eusapia!), I was really hopeful about this one. As it turns out, it's everything I had hoped for - very balanced magnolia and lilac on me, lush and smooth and cool, with a definite sense (somehow!) of shining black satin in the background. I don't get much that I can discern as from the orris root or ambergris accord, except a soft saltiness which comes through more on drydown and lends definition and sophistication to the florals. This is so spectacularly elegant, and it makes me so happy to wear it! The only problem, unfortunately, is that it has quite brief longevity on me, and is pretty much entirely faded within a couple of hours. I envy the person above who got 7+ out of it! Possibly I need to try wearing more of this perfume than I'm used to, or perhaps resting will improve the longevity. Even if it stays short-lived, though, I'll likely want a bottle. OxfordComma Report post Posted April 7 I've been loving all the SM beauties but Lorrainna 😍 STUNNING. The florals are dewy and delicate, like the scent of blooms on a humid morning before the sun starts baking everything to death. I adore lilac and was worried it would be too similar to my many other lilac scents, but the magnolia is an equal partner here, adding its breezy southern charm to the bouquet. Orris doesn't go full on powdery. Everyone is playing nice and being polite lol. I definitely agree with the "ethereal" description, it smells faelike, otherworldly. The throw is superb, I had no issue smelling it on myself even out in public with just a few wand swipes. It lasted a good 8ish hours on me, probably maintaining the throw for a good 6. This is so absolutely my jam, I'll be grabbing a bottle in my next order for sure.
