This is veeeery pretty. It was a lil sweeter than I wanted on first application and then I forgot what I had put on and sniffed my hand and went “wow whatever this is, is great!! Not as sweet on drydown.

 

Smooth woodiness, a little cool & bright, tempered by some dark & interesting qualities. Not a smoke perfume, the sandalwood smoke is incense-woody and the charred silk is reading to me as maybe vanilla somewhere between toasted and charred.

This is delicious. It smells like old Orthodox churches on me, but in a wonderful, evocative rather than photorealistic, sensual sort of way: lingering incense fumes, a touch of waxy sweetness, carved wood, silk hangings. Old cathedral, but sexy? I'm not very good at this, but that's what I got. Softens and fades into a lovely skin scent over time.

Hmm… this one is not for me. The pepper is nice in the opening, but the sandalwood is going in two directions at once: warm bittersweet incense and dry sandalwood soap. I think the silk is probably pulling it soapy and the charred part of the silk is joining up with the incense-y aspects of the sandalwood. The ambergris is there as well but is reading as vaguely sweet and powdery. The notes are just not presenting the faces I most appreciate about them.

In the imp: kind of heady.  I'm getting the sandalwood and I think the ambergris?  After putting it on, the same.  Has an unusually good throw; I'm smelling sandalwood a little while typing this.  (I only use a dab on the back of my arm, so usually I only smell whatever perfume when I bring it up to sniff.)  Doesn't evoke smoke or burning to me despite the description.
