khazakant Report post Posted March 15 I open the bottle and it's this thin, mean, astringent scent. (Cat's whiskers?) Hmm, I think, let's see where they're going with this. I put it on and it stays mean, very big on the violet. Eventually everything else comes out a little more and it develops into this dark, dingy, almost intimidating scent - definitely smells like what you'd feel if you took a wrong turn somewhere in Edo and saw a bunch of shopkeeping cats. Unfortunately, everything coalesces into kind of a bug spray note for me. This is the first Shunga I've smelt that wasn't a big hit for me, I think I'm just amping the violet which is a note I do not like and it's doing weird things to the drier aspects of the rest of the components. I'll keep it around and see how it ages, but this is probably getting sold.
OxfordComma Report post Posted Tuesday at 07:05 PM (edited) I was torn on this one because jasmine... and it does have a kinda pee vibe in the bottle, but not HELLA PEE like it can be. The sandalwood incense is apparent immediately upon application however, and tempers the jasmine quite a bit. This feels like a classic perfume all BPALed up. Kinda sexy in a hazy, sketchy, speakeasy way. The purplish florals and incense notes remind me of something, but I can't put my finger on it. The word "vintage" comes to mind. Wears fairly quiet on me currently, surprisingly! Eta: Longer drydown pulls out the labdanum more, which I'm always a fan of. Still not a ton of throw, unless my allergies are running interference. The jasmine reads more 'heady floral' now without the indolic hint. Edited Tuesday at 08:22 PM by OxfordComma
