ipb Report post Posted July 18, 2005 We've enabled the modification to regulate the images. (The modification that regulated signature images has not been ported to v2.1 of the forum code.) Currently, the settings are as follows Maximum width: 480px (which should be no surprise as that's our maximum width for forum images!) Maximum height: 100px. Maximum size: 20kb. Maximum number of images: 8 If you currently have images in your signature, please right-click on each image to make sure that they meet the height, width, and size requirements. If they do not, Edit Signature (in the User Control Panel and remove the images if you cannot resize them. If you have images in your signature that do not comply with our regulations, it will tell you which of the settings that have been broken. It will not, however, tell you which image is the problem, but it should be fairly obvious. If it comes to our attention that your current signature violates the policy, we will let you know that you have to comply. If you do not remove the image in question (or fix it so that it does comply), we may edit your signature.
ipb Report post Posted September 29, 2005 Please do not alter the size of the signature font or use the "quote" tag. Also, please double check that your signature images meet the guidelines. The portion of the forum code that checked signature sizes was an add-on and it has not yet been ported to the new version.
ipb Report post Posted October 8, 2005 Let me say it again: the forum code that made sure you complied to our signature restrictions is still broken. This means that you are responsible for ensuring that your signature meets the guidelines. So how can I tell if the image is too large? I don't know how to find out how many pixels it is. If you open the image in your browser, right click on it and select "properties". Some browsers (like IE for windows) lists the dimensions as "Dimensions: (width) x (height)". Others (like firefox) list the dimensions separately (with "Width:" and "Height"). Both ways, they list it in terms of pixels. So, if you do that to tbat image, you'll see that it should be 75pixels wide and 100 pixels tall. There's also a listing for size. For the most part, this will only a problem if an image is wildly animated with lots and lots of frames. The size of the image is 15702 bytes (or 15.33 KB). ipb Report post Posted November 8, 2005 reiterating: * do not use the size tag in your signature to make things bigger. * each image cannot be more than 20kb in size, 480 pixels in width, and 100 pixels high. that said, images that are 480px x 100px are highly discouraged. * if you have multiple images in a row, leave a space if their combined width is more than 480 pixels. so if you've got 5 images that are 100 pixels wide, you must do [] [] [] [] [] rather than [][][][][]. * if you have multiple rows of images, the combined height cannot exceed 100 pixels. * do not have more than 10 lines in your signature. * if you see a signature that breaks the rules, please report it. they will not be warned if it is the first time offense. Ina Garten Davita Report post Posted July 20, 2007 We have been getting many recent reports about too large sig images. Please check your signature images to make sure they fall within the guidelines. Thanks a million.
ipb Report post Posted November 5, 2007 Bumping to remind that linking to off-forum LJ sales is not allowed. If you want to sell or swap on the forum, use the Swaps forums. If you want to sell or swap on LJ, use LJ. Linking to your LJ to get around forum caps is not allowed, and we've had several people doing this lately. ipb Report post Posted November 7, 2007 For clarification: Having links to off-forum, non-eBay, non-BPAL swaps and sales (e.g., swapping clothing or other perfume) is ok. Having links to eBay sales is ok. Having links to off-forum, non-eBay BPAL swaps and sales is not ok. Basically, we have been finding people linking to sales on LJ and other off-forum venues where they are breaking the price caps. Rather than say "only those links that aren't violating our price caps can be linked to", we're saying nobody off forum can be linked to. Also: this goes for topics in the swaps forums. Topics linking to LJ and other off-forum swaps and sales will be made invisible and archived.
