Yeeeeah. I'm getting baby powder too. It's pleasant, but definitely not the holy grail of resinous bliss I was hoping for. I want to see how it ages thou. I'm hoping itcwill settle in and smooth out.

Wet/in imp – Perfumey amber

 

Five-ten minutes in – light/sweet perfume-y amber, (reports that this is a really nice amber are not exaggerated)

 

1 Hour in – this morphs very little; still a perfume-y amber, rich and sweet. Not strong, but a couple inches of throw.

 

2 hours in – no change

 

(and it's faded entirely by four/four-and-a-half hours in)

2016 version

I have never tried Jacob's Ladder before. Crazy, right? But I only realized this year how much I love amber.

 

Wet: Amber, a bit powdery, hints of galbanum and benzoin. Pretty, classic.

 

 

Dry: I really love amber, but I find this one goes a bit powdery on me (I know some have that issue regularly, but I normally don't). I think I will keep the decant and see how it ages, perhaps finding a bottle from one of the previous releases would be better than fresh.

If I could write a haiku, it would be for Jacobs Ladder. I suck at poetry unless its on the fly verbal, plus just woke up with a missing voice so I have a few things halting my concentration, here....

 

Some years, the amber is gloriously warm, like The Lion. 2016's Jacobs Ladder is one of them. Get a bottle.

A beautiful, golden amber single note. While the Lion has a bit of spiciness this is just powdery and warm. It's quite nice

I remember distinctly, when I was small, getting a box of odds and ends from my grandmother. One thing in there was a tiny bottle of old perfume, which smelled exactly like this.

This is a rich, heavy, and old fashioned amber. It not my usual wear, as I find this a little cloying and a little overpowering. But there is something so nostalgic, so old fashioned and, well, perfumy, that I can't just write this one off.

2016 version

 

AMBER AMBER AMBER. ALL THE AMBER.

 

It doesn't really morph much on me; it's a bit powdery in the early going, and then stops being powdery pretty quickly and is just sweet resinous amber amber amber amber amber SO MUCH amber. Lasts forever. It reminds me a bit of Brisingamen, which makes sense because that has multiple ambers in it too, but Jacob's Ladder is without the honeyish note Brisingamen has (I know Brisingamen is not supposed to have honey, but I totally smell it there).

 

Pure and golden. Probably more one for the cold weather. Maybe that's why it's a freaking Yule and I shouldn't have waited until June to test it.

I bought a bottle of 2016 Jacob's Ladder here on the forums recently to wear to my nephew Jacob's bar mitzvah later this month, if I liked it. And it's beautiful. Some of my favorite blends are amber based, but this one seems like more of a pure amber blend than any of them. I can't really pick out any of the other notes - maybe a little nuttiness from the ambrette seed, a little sweetness from the tonka, but they really just seem to support making the amber even more amber-like. And as some reviewers have commented, it has more of an old-fashioned, perfumey vibe than anything else I wear regularly, but it's absolutely lovely, and while I might not reach for it every day, I will wear it with pride for Jacob's bar mitzvah and whenever I want to smell sophisticated and feminine.

This decant is not marked with which year it is from, but I received the decant in 2013, so it is from sometime before then.

 

In the decant: Soft resins (mostly amber and benzoin) and rockrose.

 

Wet: I'm getting soft, powdery amber and benzoin. After a few minutes, the rockrose emerges. I'm not able to pick out each individual note in it, but the amber reigns, with something floral beneath the resins. As it begins to dry down, the tonka starts to sweeten up the scent.

 

Dry: Predominantly a sweet, soft, cuddly amber. The amber and tonka notes are just lovely.

 

Verdict: I like this. I don't think I need more of it, but I'm happy to have my decant!

2018 edition

 

In the imp: As classic an amber as you could wish for - light, perfumey, and just a little powdery, with a lovely, subtle floral note as an accent.

 

Wet: Soft and subtle amber and resins. This almost smells like one of the RPG scents meant for layering - it's so soft as to be elusive on its own, but I'm worried that actually layering it with anything would overpower it. This smells like something out of a cut-glass bottle on your glamorous grandmother's vanity.

 

Dry: A little warmer and dryer, but pretty linear overall. It's amber all the way down, with some tonka and benzoin also notable, and less rockrose than ITI, but still present.

Hey, do you like amber? Because this is an amber scent all the way. A sweet amber, powdery, a bit resinous. Definitely more powdery than resinous. A little bit feminine leaning, at least to my nose.

 

I like resinous amber, and incense-y amber, but I also like this sweet soft powdery amber. All the ambers, all the time. 😁

This has a few notes that take turns coming forward: there is a vanilla-like note, the light gold amber, and a slightly sour note that must be the rockrose. 

 

The first time I tried it it seemed too powdery but now it seems light, warm, golden, delicate, really gorgeous. I do wonder if other people's noses would interpret it as baby powder though.

 

For the first half hour it is very wafty, it stays closer to the skin once it dries. The rockrose adds a slightly sour/bitter floral aspect that I love.

Beautiful golden powder... I do mostly get amber though, someone elses skin would make this irresistible!
