Veronica Report post Posted May 31, 2015 (edited) … His ofrenda is the scent of the lightless deep: the glorious, unknowable gloom of the ocean floor. This starts off as sweet, sweet melon but thankfully soon mellows out to a fresh, clean breeze scent mixed with sweet melon. Great for summer! ccelaya Report post Posted August 3, 2015 Bottle Cantalope, melon, Wet Some kind of Floral Dry Very aquatic. The melon scent was interesting, but the aquatic makes my skin smell like air freshener rather than the perfume that I love.
LizziesLuck Report post Posted November 23, 2015 Wet: Laundry and aquatics. Sweet, soapy. Dry:Yep, that's aquatic. No matter how many I try, I just never get into them. Just not my thing, unfortunately.
roseus Report post Posted January 4, 2016 In the vial: Salty water, a tiny bit of lily On wet: Even saltier. There is something dark and vegetal. Getting a little sharp and soapy. Dry: Very masculine ozone and salt. A dark version of Lightning, but without the citrus aspect. This was just too masculine for me, and I'm learning I don't actually like aquatics as much as I thought. But could be nice for those who do!
TarynPage Report post Posted January 14, 2016 Everyone keeps saying this scent is masculine, but for me it’s completely the opposite. It smells a bit like the most delicate of laundry detergents. Reminds me of sheets and crisp linens. Reminds me completely of my mother when we would visit our relatives in Virginia in the summer. Although I love the scent, it doesn’t match my scent profile. Light and a little bitter. In the vial: Flowery, bitter, soapy. On *my* skin: Much more bitter-smelling, though pleasant. Reminds me of bubbles and bubble-bath. Casablanca Report post Posted October 31, 2016 Olokun has none of the gloom mentioned in the notes -- I'd been half expecting something like The Deep Ones. Instead, I get a cool-toned, lightly salty oceanic melon that's only a faint presence on me. All very soft. All very gone in a short time.
spikyfairy Report post Posted May 1, 2017 This was a frimp which was too intriguing to not try, even though I generally dislike aquatics. In the vial it is, yes, a bit aquatic and soapy.Wet on me: Salty soap, ugh! Then some kind of interesting moss-like note in there too - seaweed? (Note: does not actually smell like seaweed). I do find this... compelling, but it's also bordering on gross.Dry: I think I'm getting the melon others have mentioned. Mixed with a salty aquatic & some kind of green herbs. To me, it is a bit artificial smelling and almost nauseating, but I could see it being appealing if ocean scents are your thing.Late dry-down: Softer and less rank now, but still rather soapy on me.Not as "ocean fresh" bathroom cleaner as I was afraid it would be, but no thanks. rachelos Report post Posted June 27, 2017 Similar to Undertow, but whereas Undertow is a little weird, and a little off, Olokun is perfectly wearable. More marine than aquatic. Fresh with depth. Love this one.
doomsday_disco Report post Posted January 11, 2023 I'm not typically one for aquatics, and Olokun is a traditional aquatic. It's got that clean, soapy vibe that is likely due to some ozone, and isn't as salty as some of the other aquatics, but nothing about it really stood out to me aside from 'better than Ogygia (another aquatic that I was testing on my other hand). While it isn't something I could see myself reaching for, I am glad that I got to try it!
ShadowEtienne Report post Posted August 24 The biggest take away I'm getting on my skin is deep, still waters. Like being out on a boat when everything is perfectly calm, no wind no waves. It's a very still, calming scent. The only motion in the world is a very gentle rocking inherent to being in a small craft on the water. It's clean and clear, and you can see deep deep down. There is some sweetness that I could see as reading fruity or floral if it manifested more, but on me it's just the freshness of ocean air that is utterly calm.
