Little Bird Report post Posted June 24, 2006 (edited) Imbues you with enormous amounts of courage. Use this blend when you feel weak, scared, or intimidated. Helps you find the strength to confront dangerous or frightening situations. Smells like candy-sweet lavender with a drydown of misty, sweet jasmine. It smells different to me when compared to the discontinued voodoo blend of the same name. This one is less green and powdery than the other, though it might just be because of the age difference. PurringPulsar Report post Posted July 24, 2006 Crucible of Courage The scent: a gorgeous rosy-lavender version of Lionheart-that same amber-musk-heliotrope scent but with extra floral notes. The scent is beautiful, reassuring, and warm. It calms and soothes. The drydown is very similar to Lionheart, which I love. If this weren't ritual oil, I'd wear this as perfume. The intent: I think this oil might come in handy for me because I tend to panic a lot. And when I panic I lose control of myself and my confidence shatters completely, and I feel weak, not in control, scared. I hope to use this in a situation that might weaken me with panic, and also for smaller, scary things-I will wear this on the day I get my exam results because that is one thing that is terrifying me at the moment-what my results are and whether I have passed or failed. I also wore this in conjunction with Block Buster for my first job interview because I was losing sleep over it and it makes me feel jittery. I don't want to break down and mess up the interview. It worked…but it also helped me to feel confident, less intimidated by the everyday things as well-I live in a dangerous neighbourhood and the guys nearby make me feel uncomfortable but not today. I think I might use this when I have to do something that I don’t normally have the guts to do. Whilst Lionheart is more of a day to day confidence booster, this is good for when situations are a little more difficult and uncertain and when I am faced with a crisis. joans Report post Posted April 13, 2007 After a suggestion from lissalissa in the TAL area I decided to work with Crucible of Courage as part of my work on PTSD. At first this reminded me of a woodsy scent similar to a cologne for men that I love and have both given and worn, although I haven't smelled it in about 20 years. Reading the above posts, and trying to identify specific notes [not something with which I'm gifted] I realized that it's not at all similar. I was responding to the feeling of security that I associated with that scent. Although floral notes usually don't work on me [excepting neroli] this blends with my chemistry in a lovely way. I've used this several times since receiving my decant from a kind forumite, and every time it has worked wonderfully. I plan to put it into my little 'emergency tin' that I carry with me, and hope to buy a bottle.
Hayet Report post Posted September 12, 2007 I _love_ this scent. A dab of it when I'm overwhelmed makes all the things-to-do seem manageable again. It's probably better for more serious situations, but I also just love the way it smells and it's so very effective.
Delirium1009 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 This TAL smells wonderful on me, and serves its purpose well. It has a warm, herbal scent to it with a definite bit of lavender and a lot of golden amber. This just feels warm, golden, and slightly herbal. The scent actually reminds me of thick, rich honey with herbs strewn about, but since the lab's honey note doesn't really work on me, I think this is more a combination of floral, amber, and herbal notes. There's some other flowers in here as well besides the lavender. Rose? Heliotrope? I'm not sure. But this is slightly complex. As to how this blend works, I find it both gives me a little extra courage and makes me feel safe at the same time. It almost seems to settle my nerves as it gives me the strength to face my problems. I'm currently learning how to drive, and it's a very scary thing for me. Crucible of Courage makes me feel strong and ready to face my fear. It's absolutely wonderful, and its beautiful scent just makes me love it more.
lilirose Report post Posted July 17, 2008 Wow wow wowowow. Good stuff, here. Really good stuff. I'm not reviewing for scent other than to say it smells gorgeous. Just fantastic. For intent: it has no equal. I'm living right in the middle of one of my worst phobias right now- we have mice, the landlord won't fix it, and we don't have time to make a big issue of it because we're about to move. I am terrified of wild mice. I hadn't slept in three days because I could hear them and occasionally saw one- "freaked out" doesn't even begin to cover it. Last night I decided to annoint myself with Crucible of Courage while focusing on the thought "you will survive this, you can get through it until the move". Then I got into bed...and as I shook out my eiderdown, a mouse fell out of it and ran across my foot and under the bed. I screamed, yes. Then I put a couple of traps out and went to sleep. I did not stay awake obsessing and listening for them. I didn't have to go to the doctor and beg him to give me valium. I didn't even have a heart attack when one of the traps was tripped at about 3AM. Good stuff. Highly recommended. Will never go without it again.
rawgirl75 Report post Posted February 17, 2011 (edited) Crucible of Courage Scent: I found it nearly identical to Lionheart, except with white rose instead of heliotrope. Very soothing - not loud or sour. Uses: In ritual, for candle annointing or worn directly on skin. I'm surprised this blend isn't talked about more often. It's not just useful for fearful situations. I've also found it VERY effective in helping with Anxiety as well. More effective for me than Lionheart was. I've been using it for this since 2007. I dab a little bit on my chakra points whenever I need it. A really beautiful scent too. [update]: My new bottle came heavy on the lavender which is barely present in my old bottle. I'll have to age the bottle for quite awhile to see if the lavender backs down. Edited January 21, 2012 by rawgirl75
Minerva Report post Posted March 10, 2013 This is a beautiful oil that works AMAZINGLY well. I've been going through a lot of changes in my personal life and am feeling rather fragile and not protected. I apply to my chakra points with special attention to my root chakra (basically the base of my spine) and then drive in to work. It usually takes about 40 minutes for the oil to fully sink in but it's pretty great when it does, I can tell immediately. It's not as if I have more courage or feel extra strength, it's as if all the extra chatter in my head, the nervous chatter, is silenced and although it doesn't take anything away, it numbs the parts of my life that seem extra painful and I don't focus as much of my attention to them. I wonder if there is valerian root in this blend mainly because of the calming influence. The scent, by the way, is AMAZING! It's the prettiest oil I have ever smelled... Like warm bundled hay bordering on a field of honeyed flowers that scent the air with enchanted fairy dust. The floral smell is less flowers and more softness, like vanilla orchids that dry down to a vanilla powder. Enchanting, really. I agree that this is a FANTASTIC oil for anxiety / depression and although I don't notice it giving me any more strength (Lionheart was a complete bust for me and I noticed nothing when I used it) Crucible of Courage helps me feel less exposed, less fragile, and less emotionally responsive. theseagrows Report post Posted February 16, 2014 (edited) this smells like lavender and something soft and maybe a bit musky or ambery? i presume there are other herbs in here as well. it's a very uplifting, yet at the same time grounding scent. i can definitely see how it could inspire confidence. it's soft and soothing but also gives a feeling of oomph and support. haha, i know oomph maybe isn't the most descriptive word, but that's the only word i can think of to describe it. i must be trying this more often! eta: after awhile longer, a slightly sweet floral begins to come through, though i can't tell exactly which one, maybe lily? it adds to the depth of the scent quite a bit too. Velvet Lilly Report post Posted March 29, 2015 SO beautiful and softly glowy. This doesn't feel or smell like "RAAWWRR" Courage..... this fells and smells like "Aaahhh... all is well....we got this" Courage. I love people have pointed out it's like Lionheart with extra florals. I love how those notes all blend together. It's very soothing to be surrounded with as it blooms on my skin. Safety, Comfort, Calm. Everything is handlable. <
