BPAL Madness!
sarada

Robin Goodfellow

Recommended Posts

2014 purchase; see here for my review of a younger imp purchased in 2021.

In the imp: Sage, moss, heather, and bacchanalic musk.

Wet: Beautifully mossy with overtones of moistened heather, dying sage leaves, and a woody ragwort stem.

Dry: The musk, which is incredibly strong in the initial stages (and a lot stronger in my aged imp than my newer one), soon takes a backseat to the moss, sage, and heather. The effect is lovely, like being deep in a sun-dappled forest glade. The throw is strong, you won't forget you're wearing this, and it lasts a good long while. Definitely better for the aging, I recommend it if you have the patience!

Obtained 2 bottles by accident, but that's awesome cuz this one will be amazing aged. It smells like powdered woods, sweet & airy, but something golden & warm about it grounds it too. That's probably the sage. It's gentle & comforting. I'd love to smell this on someone else when hugging them! Might have to turn some into a spray for my pillows.

Frimp  from BPAL, fresh

This one totally took me by surprise!  It’s woody, not floral like my usual favorites.  I wouldn’t have chosen it myself.  But once on my skin, I instantly and permanently fell in love with him.

I did notice that it seemed meant for me, because I live on a street named after Robin the legendary forest outlaw. (The BPAL elves didn’t choose it for me for that reason, as I was temporarily using a different address. It was just a delightful serendipity.  And a good omen!)

It’s definitely a wood scent, but has an unusual touch of softness, (dare I say femininity?) to it. Although remaining unisex, it isn’t assertively masculine.  There’s almost a sense of something floral, a few tiny hidden flowers in this forest.  Could it be the heather? I don’t remember heather as having any particular fragrance, but it must or why would it be an ingredient in this?  Or maybe ragwort?  I have no idea what that smells like.

Robin Goodfellow went on lovely and stayed lovely for as long as it was detectable (about an average length of time.) It’s my new fave.

Dark musk, moss-covered wood, ragwort, heather, and sage.

Character:  woody, unisex

My rating:  10/10

Like @Ghost of a Rose, I was taken by surprise by this fragrance.

It green, fuzzy, powdery, with the scent and texture of sage. I do not think it smells like "moss-covered wood" - which I imagine as a damp, loamy scent. The moss and wood stand separate, since this smells more like fresh-cut wood and moss in the sun. The "dark musk" beneath it all is not BPAL's rich, heady black musk, but then smokey, stone-like variety in Tis Strange (another Shakespeare-themed scent).

Robin Goodfellow feels very unisex to me. It is gentle, soothing, and balanced, one I could wear to work and to bed. Bottle-worthy. Thanks for the frimp, Labbies.
