Defututa

Recommended Posts

As FeyoftheFellwood said above, Defutata is a serious reminder of why I should revisit the GC more often.  This is a gorgeous olive blossom and vanilla scent. Somehow it transports me to another place, another world, reminiscent of something from my past.  What a fantastic blend!

I originally tried this because it was suggested as similar to my beloved Like The Very Gods. Both are good, but the impression they give on my skin chemistry ends up being very different. Defututa is a milky, fuzzy vanilla cinnamon. behind that, I get an impression of soft florals. There's an extremely faint smoky spiciness that tickles my nose, but it's primarily a vanilla floral. It gives me the impression of a pink blush. But it's like wearing cozy pajamas after a hot shower. Very clean, warm and soft.

When I first got the imp of Defututa it did go sunblocky and plastic on me, so I didn't try it again for a while. But I tried it on today and it seems like it's matured into what I described above. So that's great!

In the imp this was very sharp jasmine with the barest hint of honey and vanilla. I got a tiny bit on my finger when opening the imp and swiped that on my wrist before actually truly testing, and on my skin it turned to mothballs. It’s so mothbally that my mouth is doing that whole bitter watering, and that was after I washed it off. Normally I don’t have an issue with jasmine, but this combination just did NOT work for me.

In the imp, this is a sharp floral scent with just a hint of something woody in the background.
Wet, it's warm, slightly soapy, and floral.
While drying, the florals (and soapiness) slowly fade, and the honey emerges.
When dry, it's a rich, warm honey. I absolutely adore it at this point, and it definitely reminds me of O. This is a lighter, more everyday alternative.
It stays close to the skin the entire time and lasts about 8 hours.

Got this as a frimp! Very jasmine heavy on application, which I appreciate because jasmine and my skin chem get along great. Sandalwood emerges on drydown, along with a breath of smokiness. Dry it's still jasmine heavy with a sweet woody vanilla base and a little glob of honey. I don't get cinnamon at all. This is very pretty, one of those ones GCs with notes I like but didn't know existed.

In the bottle the jasmine and sandalwood jump out to me, with a hint of soapiness.

On my skin, while still wet, it's still the jasmine that takes centre-stage and at this point I was slightly worried about soapiness as my skin has an unfortunate tendency to soapify most florals. As it dries, the honey and vanilla come through and save the day (my skin also seems to amp up sweetness in general) - still a hint of soap, perhaps, but it's very pleasant, it's a very pretty floral scent but not light. On the drydown I also get a light whiff of smoke, and the honey and vanilla mellow out and blend with the sandalwood to almost a... wax candle of sorts. Weird comparison but I was raised orthodox and this reminds me of the candles in church if they were... sensual.

I haven't had it on for too long so not sure how long-lasting it is but it definitely stays close to the skin, which I quite like.

Really enjoying this one!

gentle creamy florals over a waxen base. @Moonbell's association of wax and church candles if they were sensual is very spot on. the sandalwood takes it in sort of a sexy skin-scent direction. there's not much smokiness to me, and I don't pick up much cinnamon. Overall, something about it is too womanly for me, like the perfume is wearing me more than I'm wearing it.
