White and "Light" Musk Recommendations

A couple of things I thought of...sometimes the easiest way for me to isolate a note is to find a couple of blends that mention the note in descriptions, and then find the "common thread;" for me, the skin musk in Tamamo-No-Mae and Velvet Nudie was very similar, and easy to identify once I'd smelled it in both blends. I would agree that it is similar to white musk, but "rounder" to my nose. I get white musk as an almost cologne-y sharpness sometimes, but skin musk doesn't have that to me.

 

For Skin Musk (sorry, these were all LEs; but there are a bunch of Salons with skin musk listed that I haven't tried):

Breathless Horror from this years Yules (icy white musk and thick olibanum with niaouli, carrot seed, white mint, and camphor) is a terrific light musk on me. It is a great 'clean body' scent. Mostly light musk with a fresh scrubbed skin scent with just a touch of astringent woodiness from the camphor.

Just tested the Lurid Library and on me I get skin musk and books. It's very light and subdued.

Kinda craving some skin musk (honeyed as a plus as Capax Infinity is what has me jonsing.) but having issues with search to find just skin musk and not skin and musk seperately which is about a million.

Have you tried RPG Neutral? You could layer it with a favorite honey scent.

Resurrecting this thread seeking some more skin musk recommendations!

 

I tried a decant of Brides of Dracula yesterday and the skin musk + honey + floral combination worked like a dream on my skin and was truly one of the most beautiful things I have ever smelled. I would love some more recommendations of scents which use skin musk in a related way while I continue to long after more Brides.

 

The only other scent I have tried with skin musk as a listed note is Vasilissa, which I like and want to retest soon, but the sandalwood rather takes over on me.

 

White musk also tends to work very well on me, but I have and love more scents with it already (Katharina!), and it doesn't quite give the warm, sensuous melting ambrosia of the skin musk.

I recently tried Like a Girl and it's a very pretty skin musk! I smelled it on my sweatshirt sleeve yesterday and was like "omg I smell so gooooood" and then I remembered the last time I wore that I used Like a Girl on that arm lol. It has sandalwood but it's Mysore sandalwood which works better for me than a lot of other sandalwood notes. It's creamier? I also have Woman Putting on her Stocking which has a skin musk note but I haven't tried it yet...will let you know. Neutral is just skin musk. And then also I think Glowing Vulva has a skin musk thing going on but it's not a listed note, but the vibe of that perfume is *skin musk*. As always YMMV.

Ooh, thank you so much for these suggestions! I would have avoided Like a Girl because of the sandalwood, so hearing the way it works on you is very intriguing. I'll keep an eye out! And would love to hear how Woman Putting on Her Stocking works for you - it was one that intrigued me, but not enough to go for it.

 

I haven't gotten into the RPG scents yet mostly because of an aversion of layering, but I'll consider....

Necro-bumping to see if anyone has any recommendations for a white musk! I recently got a frimp of Fae which is lovely, but the white musk on the far dry down is absolutely enchanting. Any recommendations for something that’s heavier on the white musk that I won’t have to wait hours and hours for?

 Hi @Alethia! It looks like you and I have some overlaps in our favorite notes, so I'll definitely be looking at your reviews for recommendations as well.

 

I was going to suggest Katharina, which on me is such a heavenly mildly fruity orange blossom-white musk combination, but it looks like it's already one of your favorites! As far as GC scents I also have found Endymion to have such an absolutely gorgeous white musk, if you haven't tried that one yet.

 

I realize I'm sounding like a broken record here because I bring it up all the time, but My Soul Acquiesced in It from the Carmilla collection is the white musk scent of my dreams; the other notes are also pretty prominent and I don't think it would work unless you like almond (I see you do like rose and vanilla!), but for me the white musk is the heart of that blend and it's just stunning on me.

 

I was fortunate enough to get to try the old Lupercalia The Presence of Love which also has a very beautiful white musk, sharped by amber, grapefruit, and jasmine but very much noticeable as its own note.

 

I have also seen Paladin recommended a lot for white musk, though on me I get a lot of frankincense which makes it tricky to detect - I do need to retest that one, though.

I thought the white musk blends among the 2024 Weenies were really good. I particularly like My Soul Aquiesced in It (white rose, white musk, bitter almond, icy vanilla) and Vintage Pumpkin Blow Mold (white musk, sweet orange, crystalline amber, pumpkin rind), but I think there are others too.
