BPAL Madness!

BPAL to represent each month, each season? Holidays, like Christmas?

Recommended Posts

^^ I cannot wait to get my hands on an imp of silk road. holy hell.

I would also like to add, to the original question, Gingerbread Poppet - if you can get your hands on some. For me, it is the essence of a winter kitchen.

If you have to wear oodles of layers, you'll want people to be able to smell your goodness eminating from underneath all those layers, right? This equates to fragrances with lots of "throw."

I'd probably go with Hamadryad, if you like the deep cinnamon scent. Yggdrasil, Blood Amber, Hollywood Babylon, Skuld and the previously mentioned Vinland are also good. Wolf's Heart is another one, if you'd like your perfume oil with a bit of Voodoo *oomph* and I'd also recommend Lampades, which is fruity (a la cranberries) but not foody. Silk Road was another previous recommendation I'd like to second. If Samhain comes around again, you may want to get your hands on that as well. Anne Bonny (don't fear the patchouli!), Scherezade, Chokmah and Fenris Wolf are also good, too.

How could I have possibly missed this thread?!? :D

I heartily second the Vinland recommendation...I wore it quite frequently during this past winter. I tend to gravitate towards clean, neutral scents during the day in winter, and hot, spicy scents at night, so Dirty, Aizen-Myoo, Snow White, and a few others were right up there with Vinland, with Snake Oil, Formula 54, Bloodlust, Blood Kiss, and more in that family coming out at night. :P

You would have probably *loved* Skadi... I love Skadi. It was a wonderful spicy pine. I just ran out and haven't been able to get ahold of another bottle though :P

Anyhow. I would recommend Mistletoe after that. Mistletoe is one of the best BPAL blends ever (in my humble opinion, lol). It's wonderfully green and snowy, but sweetens up quite a bit in the drydown.

Another vote for Yuletide (though as a caveat, I haven't tried '05).

I like Nuclear Winter/Skadi/Talvikuu/etc. as well, though I don't find them to be even remotely spicy, but rather icy cold and crisp.

Maybe layer one of the more piney catalog scents like Golden Priapus with Three Witches?

If you like Skadi you will enjoy Snow Moon :P - so very similar! More so than Snow Bunny - which starts out piney when wet but unfortunately drys down to an AquaNet hairspray smell (which was so disappointing - I was looking forward to the "girlie perfume" note as in so many Snow Bunny descriptions.)

I have been putting together a bottle order and thinking of springesque scents and it got me to thinking... What scents are perfect for each month or are fitting for each month. I would be interested to hear your ideas!

My list:

January: Snow White

February: Rose Red (with valentines day and the like)

March: Szepasszony (cool and wet with a touch of flowers

April: Amsterdam (green grass and tulips)

May: The Unicorn or Lady of Shalot

June:?

July: Bon Vivant

August: Pannychis (jasmine is such a humid sort of scent)

September: The Lion

October: Verdandi

November: Fenris Wolf or Haunted

December: "insert Yule blend here" :P

What do you think?

For me, June is 2, 5 and 7 because of the roses (it always reminds me of Regents Park rose garden in June) or Strawberry Moon, or, of course, June Gloom.

What a fun question!

January: Snow White (peaceful and new)

February: Whip (very romantic and tortured)

March: Ultraviolet (frozen things blooming)

April: Lightning (rainy skies)

May: Penthus (rainly days filled with flowers)

June: Shanghai (fresh!)

July: Pele (warm and glowing)

August: Midnight (a fully blooming night under a sticky, moony sky)

September: Scaecrow (falling into dryness)

October: Devil's Night (the perfect trickster scent)

November: Persephone (fruity abundance)

December: Penitence or Midnight Mass (peace of the season)

I did this based on impressions, not logic.

Hmm, good one. These aren't necessarily my favorites, but what a month just... smells like. My least favorite months - January and November - were the most difficult. I *love* spring and summer, tolerate fall, and hate winter with a passion!

January: Skadi (sweet piney snow)

February: Prague (crocus!)

March: Dublin (green... that about sums it up for waterlogged March)

April: Empyreal Mist (smells like sunrise... which is happening earlier and earlier, yay!)

May: Snow White (I'm in the minority, I don't find it wintery at all, but rather verging on summer)

June: Chuparosa (it's all honeysuckle-rose and buzzy hummingbirds on me)

July: Morocco (warm, dry musk - perfect for day or night)

August: The Lion (warm pleasant lazy days) or Scarecrow (scorching hot dry days)

September: The Hesperides (apple harvest!)

October: Mabon for early in the month, Pumpkin King for Halloween.

November: Bow & Crown of Conquest (winter gloom settling in, but this one smells like a sexy boy in a leather jacket rubbing my feet with vanilla lotion - yep, that cheers me right up)

December: Yuletide, of course.

Maybe I'm odd, but I wear scents out of season. I personally like spicy scents in the hot summer weather, clean florals like Pele in the winter. And Morocco, Antique Lace, or Al-Araaf all the time.

I can't think of a lot.... Since I go for warm scents all the time.

But... March: Eos. It smells like buttercups and spring air to me, and in March all the wildflowers are bursting into full bloom around here.

April: Zephyr, maybe. More sweet lovely air.

May: Tamora. So sweet and summery....

I'm honestly not sure of the rest, to be honest.

The only scent that truly screams at me from the top of my head is

October: Jack.

I pretty much agree with Finny on this one. :P

My list will probably a bit whacky since I'm currently in the Southern Hemisphere and the seasons are inverted.

I'll come back to the thread after I've sniffed for a bit.
