BPAL Madness!

Recommended Posts

Rose absolute, caramel, ripe red berries, pink pepper, Balsam of Peru, cognac, and benzoin.

I bought this on a whim last year and I'm glad I did as it turned out to be my favourite Lupercalia of 2009. The top note is the pink pepper, which gives this an herbal and spicy kick. The caramel and cognac give it just a touch of sweetness which balances out the tartness of the berries, and the rose is softly underneath, holding everything together. This is a very pretty and feminine scent. Edited by TheIceMaiden

Source: Decant

In the Decant: Caramel and berries. Sweet, but with a bright/warm note that I think is the balsam, though I'm not sure.

Wet: Caramel, primarily. Very sweet. I don't smell any rose, but I do get a smokey, boozy cognac background under the sweet - like some kind of alcoholic dessert. I can definitely smell the pink pepper as well. The berries aren't as pronounced now.

Dry: The sweetness has balanced with the liquor and pepper notes. However, I still don't get any rose or much berry out of this. It's all candy and booze. Pleasant and not too sweet, in spite of the fact that it is all about the candy.

Further Notes: About 5-6 hours of wear time from one heavy application. Now I want to try the Chocolate and Pepper-Smoked Caramel scent, since it was mostly pepper and caramel I got out of this one.

Thanks to the lovely Tragedy for swapping me this; it's gorgeous on me. :wub2: It's initially like a caramelly berried rose. As it dries down further the rose softens and the balsam and benzoin emerge, warming it up and adding depth to the berries and caramel. The final zip of pink pepper adds a sexy dash that is just right and not overpowering at all. This is a gorgeously sexy blend that's more than earned the name "Mother of Desire".

In the bottle - Predominantly the spice of the pink pepper with a hint of soft rose in the back ground

Wet on me - Mostly the pink pepper but with a hint of something soapy

Dry on me - A soft, soapy rose scent with a touch of cognac

Overall - For me I guess the wrong notes took prominence on my skin; I was hoping for caramel and pink pepper with just a touch of rose

I bought this as a whim off ebay because I love the Lupercalia scents...and I am so happy I did.

When first applied this makes me think of Fruit Loops: I get a sweet berry smell, but it isn't cloying or plasticky sweet, nor too much fruitiness: it's perfect. I can't pick out any singular notes, really; the rose and benzoin (and I suppose my dreaded nemesis, caramel) are just blending beautifully with the red berry to create a scent cloud of feminine allure. I get no booziness per se. It is just gorgeous.

The kicker here, and what makes this scent utterly unique, is the pink pepper. It adds the perfect bite to all the above-mentioned sweetness. I can't stop smelling my wrist.

I will treasure this half bottle, and probably wear it when I want to feel especially womanly. This is a gauzy-dress-and-heels, extremely killer underthings, romantic sort of perfume. Love it!

This is a really well-blended scent. All the notes sort of mix and meld together into a really unusual but delicious warm-floral-spicy-resiny smell that I love despite the fact that I don't usually go for spicy-resiny smells. Definitely worth trying for almost anyone!

this starts off with slightly sour roses and balsam, with the pink pepper and berries coming out afterwards. this smells kind of like potpourri on me and the roses are the kind that tend to turn a bit sour for some reason. after awhile it's a slightly sweet and sour pink rose, primarily, and the of the notes don't seem to be there.

This scent has a bit more going on, all at once, than I'm used to for BPAL. When I'm paying attention, I get the berry, pine, pepper, and rose all at once, in equal measure, with the other notes coming together to give the scent some background sweetness. When I'm not paying attention and just catch a whiff, I get a spicy, almost cinnamon, berry smell. I think, on me, the balsam and pepper are coming together to make the 'spice' part of the scent I'm getting, where the rose sweetens and adds to the berry part of the scent.

Someone else described this as potpourri and I find that to be pretty on the nose. I would describe this as a winter season, almost foody, potpourri.

First, let me say that this decant vial is top notch. I was accidentally storing it upside down for the past 30 minutes, and not a whiff of an issue.

In the decant: Caramel tinged with rose.

On my skin:

Wet, it shifts from caramel to salted caramel back to caramel. I can just barely pick out the rose absolute peeking at the edges of the scent, trying to make an appearance. As the oil dries, the rose succeeds, pushing back the caramel to be the dominant note. I also get some of the deepness of red berries and some of the pink pepper spice. Given time to develop, the rose goes slightly soapy, and I get a hint of something almost smoky that I can't quite identify.

There is a lot going on here, although once the initial caramel jolt subsides, it's always rose absolute upfront on me. I'm very interested in how this might manifest differently on different people, but as for me, I do not need another Mostly Rose.
