whisperstilled Report post Posted August 13, 2010 (edited) Happy fifth birthday to the bpal.org forum! To commemorate five years of camaraderie, love, and unbelievable kindness, we present a scent comprised of notes that encapsulate the essence of friendship: carnation, apple, sweet pea, vanilla cream, passionfruit, sugar cane, tonka, and guava. In Imp: Apple, mostly, with a breath of florals.Wet: There's the sweet pea, along with the absurdly strong fresh green apple note. This one is not sitting too well with my chemistry - a little too much apple.Dry: Finally getting a little vanilla, but the apple is still so strong it's giving me a headache. Nice enough for people who are huge fans of apple, but not for me. The guava and passionfruit finally kick in toward the end, and the vanilla lends enough creaminess to do much to save the blend, however. Myotis Report post Posted January 30, 2011 This one reminds me a lot of my beloved Mouse's Long and Sad Tale, only Agape has more of a fruity floral note in there. These two scents could be cousins for sure.
shadowklepto Report post Posted February 16, 2011 at first application I enjoyed the sweet fruity notes, then as it begun to dry it became soft and almost woody with my skin chemistry after a while there was a sweet floral kinda scent.. after a few hours however the soft sweet fruit remain and lingered for at least an addition 9hours after application. I adore this scent and I would defiantly want to pick up more of it, kinda regret only being able to find 1 bottle.
theseagrows Report post Posted February 20, 2011 i think i'm pretty much getting sugar cane, tonka and guava or passionfruit here. at first it smelled like a sugary pineapple scent, but maybe that was just the apple. this is very sugary and sweet, and as often happens, fruity/sugary scents turn very plasticky on me. not a very me scent, but i was intrigued by the carnation and vanilla cream notes...but sadly, i can't smell either one. Gin Report post Posted April 14, 2011 I love Agape so, so much. Apples and cream and sugary carnations. It's light and creamy and beautiful. I will be very sad when my bottles are used up because there's nothing else quite like it.
Glambie Report post Posted April 1, 2012 I took a chance on this bottle, ordering it unsniffed during a swap for another bottle. Egadz!! I'm SO glad I did!! This is an absolutely gorgeous spring/summer scent that's feminine, uplifting, and subtle. The fruity and floral notes are balanced by the vanilla cream, so everything is blended seamlessly into a somewhat mood-altering scent; you can't not be happy when wearing this! For me, this was a mix between Mouse's Long and Sad Tale and The Vine, so if you love either of those two, you're in for a real treat! I may need to hunt down a backup ASAP! ami226 Report post Posted August 12, 2012 On the skin: Apples! Lovely fragrant apples! I usually find apple scents to be kind of overpowering, but this one is so pleasant! I wonder why I sold my bottle so long ago. A sweet apple with a lovely floral running through. I think I'll need to test this again to see if it is truly a keeper. It is pretty and definitely pleasant, but I am not sure how often I'd wear a scent like this.
Shadowdawn Report post Posted November 26, 2013 Sad news here... I have had this blend for years, and at first (fresh) it was stunningly amazing on me. I loved it! Truly mouthwatering.... but not in an overly foody sense. I loved the creamy sweetness with soft undertones of spice. Well, I have recently dug it out of aging and.... it's turned to wine. No joke... it's like the entire blend fermented into a wine! I hate boozy smells, but I suspect for someone who was interested in a fruit mead this might do the trick. Sadly, this bottle and I shall have to part ways.
hammy Report post Posted March 2, 2015 In the bottle - OMG. This is perfection. It’s softly sweet and creamy-fruity. I’m searching for a backup bottle and I haven’t even put it on yet. If I huff deeply, there’s a bit of fruity spice at the bottom of the bottle. Wet - Vanilla fruit. So so SO good. Apple usually amps on me, but so far this one is just a serene component of this lovely blend. I’m hoping for some guava action in this! Drydown - Innocent apple-vanilla-fruits. The fruitiness is waning a bit, and there’s more of a sugar floral happening. I smell a little bit like Smarties candy. (Just a little.) The main note is still apple, although that’s to be expected on me. Verdict - Gawrsh. So pretty. I wish it smelled more like it does in the bottle, but hey … you can’t always get what you want. vanilla323 Report post Posted May 14, 2015 This was a very light apple, guava, and carnation scent on me. It was just those three notes mingled together. I didn't like this apple note either. Apple is very hit or miss on my skin. And the vanilla cream never showed up which was the note I was looking forward to most! Too bad. Such a lovely dedication to the forum members and it's birthday. But sadly this wasn't a good one on me. Also had super short wear time.
sunlitgarden Report post Posted October 16, 2015 I wasn't BPALing yet when Agape was released, but I got a bottle in a forum swap Preconceived notions: Milk and cream notes are iffy on me; they can sometimes work, but also can end up smelling like yogurt or sour milk. Apple is good on me but usually fades quickly. I like all the other notes. In the bottle, sweet vanilla cream is the dominant note to my nose, with a fruity-sweet background. It kind of makes me think of a Creamsicle, though not orangey. The fruit comes out a bit more on my skin. I'm not really distinguishing individual notes in here, but it's light and sweet with a bit of crispness from the apple. A little bit of an odd note starts to come out as it dries, though I mostly only smell it while pressing my nose directly to my wrist. It's a little bit spiced but also smells kind of stale or overly toasted. Oh, I can think of a way to describe it.... it's kind of like the smell of a computer lab or the "toasty dust" smell when you turn on a heater after it's been off all summer. I think it's the tonka, which can sometimes smell a little bit stale/overly toasted on my skin. I'm also getting a little of the sappy green stem note that I got from the Spanish Red Carnation SN. I suspect that this combination (slightly spicy, slightly sappy, slightly toasty) might be what my skin is doing to the carnation + tonka. Cream is not going sour in this one, yay! The throw is lovely: more of the creamy sweetness that I got in the bottle. Unfortunately, over time I am getting a slight bit of the Play-Doh smell. I was hoping for more fruitiness from this blend. The fruits are there, but more as just kind of a faint sweet backdrop, not dominant at all. But I do like it.
LizziesLuck Report post Posted April 27, 2016 I have never tried passionfruit or guava in a perfume before, but I love all the other notes in this, so am eager to try it! Wet: Very fruity! Lots of apple, but in my experience that burns off quickly on me. This is quite sweet, which I like. I am hoping to get more floral with the fruit as it dries. I get hints of the vanilla cream, which is one of my favourite notes of all time. Hints of spicy carnation, but I did think it would be more dominant. Dry: The vanilla cream is present for sure, and it's beautiful alongside the fruit. I do wish the carnation was a little more prominent on me - usually I amp it, but I can barely smell it in this. I really like it though, it's a lovely spring scent.
Aveya Report post Posted April 18, 2018 (edited) Mmm. This almost comes across like a fizzy booze drink, but isn't. It's like apple ginger ale. Light florals aren't overpowering, they just add an air of fluffy femininity. Underneath is a gentle light vanilla. This could be really beautiful. Unfortunately it does have a prominent floral that my anti-floral nose can't get itself over. Sad! Edited April 18, 2018 by Aveya
donkehpoo Report post Posted June 14, 2018 (edited) Wet: Lots and lots of sugary apples! Dry: A tango of apple, sweet pea, and.. I think vanilla cream. I wish the guava or passionfruit came out more, but I still like this! It's a very delicate fruity-floral. I just wish the throw was a little bit greater. Soupy Twist Report post Posted August 9, 2018 Dammit, I really wanted to like this. The fresh juice of apples in the bottle and on application; I love the Lab's apple juice. It stays there a while through the drydown, but then it becomes a rounded mango, which is okay, until it turns into a sickly-sweet guava. Damn damn damn. DiZZysTARdust Report post Posted June 20, 2019 Agape super sweet, both in the bottle and fresh on the skin. I can detect the apple and i'm thinking possibly the guava? Just like a sweet sour element. I normally don't go for fruit scents but this is nice because the florals are giving the a sweeter vibe than plain fruits might. Also, the vanillic undertone is just kind of reaching out and smoothing any sharp edges. Another reason this is nice is that, on me at least, the throw is not strong. Overly sweet/sour fruity scents tend to overpower me but this is very gentle. Can't really detect it from far away except a faint flowery hint, like an old sachet tucked in a random drawer. Then sniffing the skin up close it's still there. Perfect representation of friendship tbh.
doomsday_disco Report post Posted April 7, 2023 I'd describe Agape as a fruit-tinged floral as opposed to a fruity floral, but perhaps that's because I tend to amp carnation. The spicy carnation reigns on my skin throughout wear, but I can smell the apple and passionfruit when freshly applied, as well as a nice dose of sugar. After that, it becomes so well-blended that it becomes hard to pick out any of the notes aside from the carnation, which continues to be sweetened by the other notes (I was not able to detect the sweet pea or vanilla, but it at least makes sense not to get the sweet pea when it's so delicate and I'm amping the carnation). I think this is nice, and may be one of the best non-Mad Tea Party carnation scents, but I don't need to hunt down more of this.
