TheDarkMother Report post Posted September 12, 2004 Forces a change of fortune, helps overcome poverty and want, and helps attract prosperity, prestige and earthly bounty. This was a freebie in my last order and I'm the first to review it! In the Bottle: A musty scent, a dark almond oil maybe with something with a sharp tang in the background. Maybe tabacco? Maybe a slight bit of vanilla in there as well. It has an acidic smell to it, as when I smell it the back of my tongue tingles a bit. Odd.On Me: The texture is a little different than her normal oils. Usually once I rub my wrists together, they are a little slick. This time they are mostly dry. The almond oil is very prevalent and slightly sweet, but a forest fire quality hangs in the background. However, this is a sweet fire, sweet smoke. If there is tabacco in it, it is very slight and overpowered by a sweetness. Is it floral, is it something else? Its hard to say. Its not citrus...maybe hycanth or honeysuckle? Not straight honey, because that glows like vanilla, which I may have been mistaken about in the bottle. But as I say that, the smell of vanilla is in the air as long as my nose isn't on my wrist. The fire smell dies down leaving a slight cinnamon scent, but very slight.I love this! This is a big bottle for me!!
Lady_Ell Report post Posted September 13, 2004 I am wearing this today because Mr. L just made out a huge check for 2 months rent for his new apartment, and we are poor. Hoping this will send some good $$ luck my way... Wet, this smells very "red" - kind of artificial and a little plasticy. But not in a bad way. It reminds me of cherry-scented plastic toys, and the memories it invokes are pleasant and nice. Drying, a hint of a smoky smell comes out, and the plastic smell fades. It smells like Carnal, but smokier. I really like it so far. Dry, it still smells red and smoky, with a hippie head shop edge that I really love. And vanilla peeks out at me every now and then, and goes back to hide. This is like smoking weed while wearing Carnal and burning Nag Champa. Final Thoughts: this is really great, but I already have a big bottle of Carnal and it smells so similar that I'll probably just stick with Carnal, and maybe fiddle around with some layering if I want to recreate the smoky aspect of Horn of Plenty. Then again, this is some STRONG stuff - I don't anticipate needing to reapply any time soon. So the imp will probably last for a while. Very, very nice. cuervosueno Report post Posted September 16, 2004 (edited) I also got this as a freebie, and love it. My first thought was, ah, honeyed almonds like queen of sheba and voodoo (both of which I adore), but I realized it smells a bit different...vanilla, as others have mentioned? Either way, for me it has a lovely honeyed, creamy golden smell that does, in my mind, evoke a horn of plenty...something overflowing with delicious golden things... It fades, on me, to slight golden vanilla powder. I too wondered if it had honeysuckle in it, but if it doesn, it isn't overpowering. I'm mindful that this is a voodoo blend. While I certainly could use the pure material aspects of prosperity, I chose to think of it as more a general sort of riches in life, an overflowing cornucopia of desired things...and what I got, after wearing it, was lots more love/friendship possibilities...more important to me that straight cash (though that, would, of course, pay for my BPAL addiction) So it does what it should for me...kept me in mind of riches, of lovely golden possibilities, and yeah, it smells really good too. I'll be getting a bottle of this... ADDED Nov. 8: I can't really add anything new, but I'm writing because I absolutely LOVE this! Like everyone else, I note the sweet almond notes, then vanilla and/or honey. It stays that way on me...and is one of my alltime favorite BPAL scents. I do believe that it works in bringing a sort plenty to me, though not, so far as money... Edited December 11, 2004 by Shollin
pkwench Report post Posted September 18, 2004 (edited) This is a lovely, lovely oil. Not only does it smell so good, but wearing it just feels good. I'm working an extra shift at work today (to fill my horn o'plenty once it's payday) and I've recieved unexpected gifts twice today. One of which was a Halloween candle (Halloween and autumn anything are my favorites) and the other was a tube of Cotton Blossom body cream from B&BW. And, what's surprising, is how nicely the Cotton Blossom an the Horn of Plenty meld together. I've been laying off my body creams (love them as I do) because I didn't want to interfere with the scent of my Bpal. Stupid me, I should have been seeing which ones go well together. As for the scent of the oil, it's divine beyond belief. It's a dark, twangy almond. And, yes, I smell a tad of vanilla. But it's like a toasted, roasted, or burned vanilla. Perhaps a little tobacco leaf as well. It's just such a nice scent and one that I was quite surprised by. So, I think it holds well as both a voodoo blend and as a good smelling scent. (And because I'm silly like that, I'm going to buy a lottery ticket after work! LOL) Edited to add: This oil was a free gift from the lab. I can't thank them enough! Nepthys Report post Posted September 20, 2004 (edited) I love the scent of this - warm, masculine and smoky-golden. It's kind of like the big daddy tycoon of oils, connoting security and wealth. Elementally it's very much an earth-fire blend to me, which is appropriate given the intent. I used this in a general abundance ritual. Much to my surprise, I woke up in the middle of the night with two very specific ideas to make money and another idea to save money. That is so not like me, so I will definitely be experimenting with this in the future. This may wind up being a big bottle for me. xoe Report post Posted September 24, 2004 Well, wearing this doesn't work for me. It gives me a big ol' headache. It is almondy and smokey and vanillay like the others have suggested and none of those things usually give me a headache. But, thee headache definitely comes on every time I put my nose to my wrist. But I will try using it in a ritual.
Red_Hot_Mama Report post Posted September 25, 2004 (edited) My chemistry does react differently to Beth's oils than most on the forum. Having said that, I will tell you that I've gotten more compliments when wearing this blend than ANY other fragrance I've ever worn (& that's saying a lot). It's deep, creamy but "fresh" smelling all at the same time. The "throw" is magnificent but not overpowering. However, only the smallest amount is needed to achieve this effect. My daughter always snuggles in close when I'm wearing Horn of Plenty & remarks how good I smell. It's a lovely way to start the day. I've already ordered a big bottle of this one. RHM Post Script: My opinion of this blend has only improved with time. Too bad my spelling didn't. I've since corrected "bit" to "big". fairywingmaker Report post Posted September 27, 2004 Horn of Plenty WOW!!! Creamy Almond, with a faint Vanilla, and although I didn't see this in anyone elses review (so I'm thinking I might be nuts) a berry scent! Maybe cranberry? This is gorgeous! I'm in love, thank you for selling this to me lorajc!
ChupaChup Report post Posted September 28, 2004 (edited) I just got Horn of Plenty in an order today, I bought it for a friend who needs the help but I had to try it, right Ooh, it's going to be hard to let this one go, I'll have to get it again soon. Plus, I need some money mojo too! Yes, just like fairywingmaker said, I get creamy almond and vanilla. About 15 minutes into the drydown, I detected some faint spices but now they are gone and I also am getting a faint berry scent. I'll be sure to post back if either my friend or I get some plenty ETA: This is quite strong, amazing for an almond/vanilla, those usually vaporize pretty quickly on me. antimony Report post Posted September 29, 2004 Mmm. I could just eat myself. I am all almondy and wonderful. I am sure that there is both tobacco and vanilla in here. It's like vanilla pipe tobacco and dulce de leche poured over almonds.
Nadirah Report post Posted September 30, 2004 wow Horn of Plenty Smelled like Honeysuckle to me... No vanilla or almond, but straight honeysuckle. Maybe there is something else (citrus?)but the honeysuckle is so strong in this that it is all I can smell. I'm not a fan of honeysuckle, so this is a no go for me. I might just annoint candles with the imp that I do have, but as soon as I opened the vial I got a sneeze attack. Oh well...
Ina Garten Davita Report post Posted October 1, 2004 I bought Horn of Plenty for the benefits, not the smell so I'm not going to do my usual review. I've been dabbing it here and there and handling the imp a lot since I got it yesterday. This morning in Target I found a small pile of dollar bills on the floor just under a clothing rack as I leaned over to pick an article of clothing that had fallen down. Coincidence...perhaps, excellent...most definitely. I'm keeping this baby and going to keep dabbing!
octopusgrrl Report post Posted October 6, 2004 In the bottle: rich and fruity Wet: wow, this is pure cherry on me! Dry: it develops into being a bit drier and spicier on dry-down, but still lots of luscious cherry goodness Verdict: I adore cherry scents, so I'm sold on the scent of this oil - this is my favourite fragrance of the 5 Voodoo oils I've tried so far. As for the Voodoo powers: I'm wearing it today for good luck with our house purchase - I applied a dab to the logo of our bank to gain favour with regards to our mortgage arrangements and approval. I'll keep you posted
stardust Report post Posted October 8, 2004 Wow. I must have some whacked-out body chemistry, because I got two scents out of this one: wet: cherry medicine, like robitussin dry: diapers. Others have backed this up, lest you think I'm crazy. I wonder what note is the culprit...
Bard Report post Posted October 21, 2004 Like many others, I received this as a freebie, and I'm really glad the lab sent it along. This is not a scent I would have ordered on my own. In the Bottle: It's quite sweet, but with a depth to it that makes one take a second whiff. It's quite unusual. It smells very berry, but there's something else besides. In the bottle, at first, I found it hard to identify. On my skin: sweet and dark. It smells like candied cherries, or cherry candy (take your pick) with a rich warm vanilla-scented tobacco beneath it. Although it doesn't mention any confidence-boosting or mood-improving qualities in the description, this scent noticably lifts my mood when I wear it. After a few hours: The smell has hardly changed. The tobacco scent is a little more prominant, and the cherry more subdued. On me the scent is quite stable and lasts a very long time. I can smell traces of it a full twenty-four hours after application. This scent has become my second favorite, next to Snake Oil. Incidentally, I've now worn it two or three times. One day, I found a coupon shaped like a $20 dollar bill. One day, while wearing it, my old checkbook suddenly appeared on my dresser. Let me state that this checkbook is about six years old. It's my account from a bank in Champaign, IL. It's been missing for years. I can't imagine how or why it suddenly appeared in my dorm room in Madison. There is money in that account. I don't know exactly how much. When I call the bank to close the account, I'll be wearing Horn of Plenty. Horn of Plenty Haiku: "What's this in your nose?" Grandpa chuckles, producing A shiny quarter. Your humble and obedient Renaissance Man, Bard
Reinaluna Report post Posted October 27, 2004 (edited) Horn of Plenty: I gave this one a chance to grow on me. The first application only needs a little, if I slather too much it smells just like Voodoo and I dont like voodoo. This is a very strong blend. It starts off cherry, when it dry's I can smell vanilla, almond, a little pepper and a nutty note. I think I like this enough to get a 5ml next time. quinkel Report post Posted November 8, 2004 (edited) Lovely Clover threw this into a swap, and i am very happy she did because i have an 5ml unsniffed on order and with no regrets! It's a sweet cherrylike, and like others have mentioned, a red scent. Somehow it reminds me of some cherry liquor. It's not overpowering but the scent last all day So far for the scent, because i mostly chose the Voodoo blends by what they do in life then for there scent. In my mailbox where the swap parcel was, was only post with financial good news! i can really do with some good news and some money right now. This scent gives a feeling of trust, like: " don't worry, there is plenty and when you need it you get it, just ask" ETA: a weeks ago we went for a weekend away to a place where there is a casino so i gave HOP a try. We di so well at the casino, that we decided to stay a night longer because with the winnings we were able to pay for that extra night, including diner! It was fun, and no, I did not become betting addict It was a luck we never had for years in the roulette game, HOP played with us Edited May 13, 2005 by quinkel
Shollin Report post Posted November 8, 2004 First sniff: The predominant note is sweet almond (or maybe cherry… I sometimes can’t tell them apart), and… well, that’s pretty much all I can smell in the vial. Like Seraglio, Horn of Plenty reminds me of the taste of my mom’s almond iced tea. Wearing: Ooh. I like this. It smells like dessert. As it dries it goes smoky, with a hint of incense, but seems to be behaving itself. Something I'll definitely wear again.
velvet Report post Posted November 8, 2004 i have been on a big voodoo kick lately and i am trying all of them as soon as i can! this smells wonderful it light almond and ... sweet/light cherry and something very warm lingering im so glad i tried this
pekeana Report post Posted November 8, 2004 In the vial, Horn of Plenty is almond, cherry, vanilla, and the dark herby touch of what I think might be vetiver in the base -- it's the same note from Saturnalia and Helping Hand, all the way at the bottom. On me, it's all warm, toasted almonds, cherry, and sweet vanilla, until about 6-7 hours later, when it's all dried down to a soft, sweet vanilla + herby vetiver[?] scent that's just very divine. Where Helping Hand is mint + vetiver[?], this is vanilla + vetiver[?], and while they dry down very similarly at the end, the journey is completely different and utterly delightful. nephthys_lvx Report post Posted November 10, 2004 Interesting scent, kindof like amaretto with the same odd undertone that I smelled in Has No Hanna. But very pleasant. And effective - I wore it yesterday, today I got a call offering me a contract job cleaning up and rebuilding a badly hacked website. I think I'll be using this a lot
nevermore Report post Posted November 12, 2004 In the imp, Horn of Plenty smells exactly like Voodoo (in Bewitching Brews) - vanilla, almond, lime and vetiver. It retains this for a while on my skin before morphing into vanilla, vetiver, and the rather herby note that all the Voodoo blends seem to share. It's quite nice smelling, but I can't comment on it's effectiveness yet, as I haven't worn it very much.
surf-tormented Report post Posted November 15, 2004 (edited) It smells like cherry cough drops from my youth and doesn't seem to calm down. I am going to try it again and see if it does something different. Then again, I got it for its purpose, not the scent. Note: 12/30/04 I mixed Horn of Plenty with Iambe and put both oils in some perfumer's alcohol. It smells very good. The cherry mixes well with the tea and amber. It's nice. I am trading the imp though. But I wanted to be able to spray my room with the intent of the oil. Edited December 31, 2004 by Madame Nyx
Diana Report post Posted November 24, 2004 I got this as a freebie imp from an ebay auction. Whee! Thank you. In the bottle it smells incredibly like Cherry Jolly Ranchers. *resists temptation to taste* Wet/for the first hour or so of drydown: there's a really juicy sweet cherry with a very very faint almond & something green in the background. And now that I've had this on for about 2+ hours, it has dried down to a powdery almondy type scent with very subtle cherry notes. Usually super powdery stuff gets on my nerves, but this is quite nice. Hopefully the voodoo part kicks in soon. I think I need a 5mL of this!
with coffee spoons Report post Posted November 24, 2004 My first 5ml, I bought it scent unsniffed hoping that it would work-- both as a fragrance and as a voodoo blend! On my skin it smells exactly like cherry Chapstick, a blend of cherry and vanilla. Now, my skin does not do fruit, especially not berries--it turns them rather artificial, I'm sorry to say. Nonetheless, I don't dislike this--it has a certain appeal despite its Chapstick association, so it was diffiult to decide whether or not I would swap it. I decided that I'll keep an imp but will swap the bottle--I won't use it often enough to justify keeping it. It's efficacy as a voodoo blend has yet to be proven-- I wore it to a job interview, will find out next week whether I got the position or not.
