FireInCairo Report post Posted December 27, 2004 Slivers of warm, pulsating blood forever crystallized in golden amber resin. Goodness- Blood Amber is unusual. I love it. It's seems very musky to me. It lasts for ages on my skin and actually blended perfectly with my body chemistry. I also think that this could be considered a unisex fragrance. I'm sure it would be damn sexy on a man. The color is very fitting too...
stardreamer Report post Posted December 27, 2004 The description doesn't say much, but looking at the color, I'd be willing to bet that the "blood" is dragon's blood resin. In the bottle it smells a bit cinnamony. Fresh on, I can still catch some cinnamon, but it's EVIL cinnamon -- there's something dark and unpleasant underneath. I'm not thrilled, and R. puts it squarely into the "Ew, yuck!" category. It gets a bit less obnoxious (to me, at least) after a couple of hours; I could probably get used to it, but with so many other scents to try, I don't see any good reason to keep this one. I did try to layer it with Bliss, but that didn't work so well -- and now it's overwhelmed the chocolate and the original scent is back full-force! (Vice might have been a better choice.) Given my experiences with this and Wrath, I'm beginning to think that dragon's blood is something I should avoid.
sh1mm3r Report post Posted December 29, 2004 In the bottle: reminiscent of other blood scents. Wet: Reminds me of Dragon's Tears, but not as much sweetness. Dry: The amber is the sole scent that is sticking around. This is a great scent of warmth. I can almost feel a bonfire on a summer night. There is something sexy about it in a masculine way too. I think I am a fan, and will be trying more amber/blood scents. My main concern, after more time, is that this scent is so ... thick, for lack of a better word, that sometimes I feel as if I'm smothering. Huh. I guess I need something a little lighter. Theravada Report post Posted December 30, 2004 I have loved almost all of the dragons blood scents that I have smelled, but this is by far the best of them all. Lovely, juicy dragon's blood sweetened by the sexy spiceyness of amber. This is just perfect, and is on the top of my list of 10mls to order. Sometimes it's Beth's less complicated blends that really blow me away.
The Ace of Spades Report post Posted January 7, 2005 It seemed a bit too sophisticated for my tastes initially, but as it sinks in over 30 - 45 minutes, it becomes less so and just becomes a very lush scent that is constantly on the edges of the senses without being obtrusive to me. It smells opulent and luxurious -- my initial reaction is that it was too posh for a woman of simple tastes. It also lingers, even more than most BPAL oils I've tried. Dragon's Blood seems to really, really like me.
cuervosueno Report post Posted January 7, 2005 I think I also got this as a freebie...hard to remember now. It smells exactly like what it is: dragons' blood and amber. And on me, these scents don't morph...they smell on me just like they do in the bottle: very heavy sweetness, with a cinnamony edge from the DB (I think). I tend to like heavy resiny scents, and I do like this. Its just not my favorite. I like Dragon's Milk more.
fairywingmaker Report post Posted January 9, 2005 This, to me, is a softer, sweeter version of Blood. A very golden scent, that has staying power. There is almost a floral, orange quality that comes through after wearing for awhile. I really like this one!
harlequin Report post Posted January 27, 2005 In the vial: smells exactly like what it says.. amber and (dragon's) blood! and just think. 3 months ago i had no idea what either of those smelled like. On: this takes on the warm insencey quality i've been getting from amber in other blends, but with a slight tang. pretty nice! kind of a "snuggle up under a warm blankey" feeling. After awhile: aww man, for some reason this turned somewhat sour... not the same sort of strong sour i've gotten from some of the wine/champagne blends, but sour none the less. Verdict: well, i was just testing this one out before sending it off in a swap.. don't think i'll miss it that much. it starts out so nice, though.
phaedrine Report post Posted January 27, 2005 I really, really wanted to love Blood Amber - and I did! In the vial, it was exactly what I had been hoping for, warm and sweet and spicy all at once. On my skin, the promises of the vial were totally fulfilled, and it became warm and rich and red/gold/beautiful. So wonderful. Sadly, it doesn't last very long on my skin, which is odd for anything with Amber in it. As much as I like it, I'm not one to want to reapply it every two hours all day. scourgeotheseas Report post Posted February 5, 2005 Blood Amber In the bottle: Smells like Dragon's Blood to me. I love that, so I'm hoping for good things. On me/wet: As almost everyone else has said, I smell Dragon's Blood and amber. The cherry sweetness I associate with Dragon's Blood is definitely subdues by amber, which gives it an incensey feel. Drydown: The amber stays true, but I wish this had more Dragon's Blood kick to it. I feel like it took a big backseat to the amber, and I'm beginning to realize I can take amber or leave it. It also doesn't seem to last that long, fading withing a few hours to just a faint whiff of scent. While I certainly don't dislike this, I'm not sure I'm in love with it either. There are many other Dragon's Blood combos that I love a lot more than this.
Finny Report post Posted February 10, 2005 Mmmm, dragon's blood. This blend is very simple on me. I get the spicy, almost floral dragon's blood scent and a powdery dry scent from the amber. It stays exactly how it smells in the imp on me, and is quite nice on.
oatmealneko Report post Posted February 10, 2005 Like Water of Notre Dame, a little bit of Blood Amber on me goes a long way. Seriously, this one has a lot of "throw". I think I put too much on, I feel a little sneezy. After dabbing it on my wrists, it smelled good. Dragon's Blood alone is overpowering with roses. Amber prevents the rose scent from becoming horrendously amplified on my skin. It's a warm, comforting mixture.
anmorata Report post Posted February 17, 2005 Wet, in the imp and on my skin: slightly sweet, almost fruity. A slight amber note, not as overpowering as I'd expect. Drydown: a very mild resin scent, with hints of powder, but it's not bad. Nowhere near as bad as Bastet was for me. 1/2 hour later: pure baby powder. It could be that I'm confusing the amber for a powder scent, but it's just not working on me. Resin scents just do not seem to be for me.
paperdoll Report post Posted February 19, 2005 Initial Sniff: In the vial, I can't pick out the amber note. It smells like straight dragon's blood resin. Wearing: Oh dear lord. I still can't pick out the amber note, but this is not like the dragon's blood single note. The heat of the dragon's blood is mellowed, and the overall tone of the blend is a glowing golden red. As it dries, it sweetens up a bit. Fianl Impressions: I need a big bottle of this. It is just too gorgeous for words.
rainbow Report post Posted February 22, 2005 Dragon's Blood and Amber are two notes that smell very distinctive on my skin, and which my nose seems to be able to pick out from a mile away. Thus, this scent smelled *exactly* as I expected it to on me. When I put it on it smelled of two separate components- dragon's blood and amber. I could smell each, but as the oil dried the amber amplified and ultimately took over the dragon's blood. My skin amplifies amber like nobody's business, so no real surprise. This is a warm, sensual scent. It makes itself right at home on the skin, and stays storng. This scent isn't really me, however, so I'll probably pass my imp on. siriusstar Report post Posted February 22, 2005 This was a freebie that I'd never have chosen, but I like it a lot. It's a very pretty amber and I swear I smell a sort of dusty jasmine, but that could be my imagination. It is certainly elegant; it would make a wonderful dinner party scent, or one for a casino concert. It was far too elegant for a night at Target, I'll save it for more interesting occassions in the future.
Kijeren Report post Posted February 23, 2005 (edited) Am I the only one for whom everything goes musky? This was a freebie with my first purchase and I fell in love with it the instant I smelled it. Wet in the bottle and on me, it's thick and rich and red-chinese-dragon As it dries, it gets dark and musky and sensual - makes me think of opium dens at sunset. Not as much staying power as I could wish for, but it's so very very *ME* that I don't mind re-applying. I've worn this nearly daily since I got it months ago. I'll need another 5ml at this rate! *note to self: find out how to make soap and lotion and shampoo out of this! edited to fix spelling Edited February 23, 2005 by Kijeren
gdogs Report post Posted March 2, 2005 i didn't like this the first time i tried it, i thought it smelled cheap on me. so i put it aside and haven't used it in months. today, i tried it again. put it on just before going into a meeting. at first it was honey and cinnamon. . . several people asked, what is that smell? i didn't respond, only because i didn't want to call attention to it. had quite a bit of throw, tho, because i didn't put very much on.. . . the cinnamon faded soon, however, and it settled into thick sweet goodness. amber. dragon's blood. i am lovin it. i'm glad i didn't get rid of my imp! after about 4 hours, it has faded, so the scent stays very close to my skin. . .still nice. bodegaselkie Report post Posted March 2, 2005 This is probably the first BPAL scent I've tried that stayed almost the same from the vial to my skin, over the course of many hours. And what staying power! I applied it around 7pm in the evening and it was still strong the next morning, despite my sleeping face-down in the bed all night. I love the resiny scent shared between the dragon's blood and the amber. It's slightly exotic and sophisticated, and reminds me of some smell from long-ago, possibly one of my mother's perfumes from when I was very young, something like that. There's also something astringent about it, which almost seems medicinal -- but that may be particular to the scent-associations I'm getting. Not sure. I like Blood Amber quite a bit, though I find the scent very confusing. It'll take a few more tries before I decide whether this is a "me" scent or not. shelldoo Report post Posted March 3, 2005 this has such a strong dragons blood scent when wet i double check the vial to make sure it is blood amber and not dragon's blood as it dries it become a beautiful combo of amber and dbr, there seems to be a hint of maybe carnation or some similar floral in there too, possibly violet, this is goregous and i will be getting a big bottle w/ the next order
mmcfa2 Report post Posted March 10, 2005 (edited) dragon's blood, amber and cinnamon? Sweet, warm and a hint of firey spice. Very sexy smell! It stays true from bottle to drydown except that the spice component takes a back seat after 20 minutes or so. This one is a skin scent with little throw and lots of lasting power. I love amber and I love dragon's blood so this is easy and wonderful!!. ADDED March 17: I love this scent. So far I love all the blood scents, dragon tears, blood amber, blood kiss, they are just sisters in the same beautiful sweet comforting family! It's not floral sweet, not insence, not fruit ,but it edges on all of these and then is grounded by the warm amber. Sniffing again, I just LOVE it! It's a me, only better, scent for sure. This is on the big bottle list for sure Edited March 10, 2005 by mmcfa2
olympia301 Report post Posted March 11, 2005 (edited) Feminine, that is the only word that you could use in relation to Blood Amber. It would have to come in a pink bottle if it were something from Avenue de l'Opera in Paris. I can imagine Manet's Olympia would wear it. Though there isn't any rose in it, I carry away the impression of roses from Blood Amber when I think about it. And clean skin, like a beautiful woman who has just emerged from her bath. Amber and Dragon's Blood seem to blend seamlessly and become another entity entirely due to some magic chemical affinity. Blood Amber lasts and lasts. I don't think I would ever need more than an imp at a time of this. Edited March 11, 2005 by olympia301
helarctos Report post Posted March 16, 2005 On me, this is a lighter sweeter amber than I expected from its name and color. I was expecting a heavy, viscid sweetness from "blood." It also has a delightful spicy kick.
Reinaluna Report post Posted March 16, 2005 Blood Amber, I just smell streight dragons blood with this one. Nice though, no bottle for me but im keeping the imp.
warmfuzzies Report post Posted March 21, 2005 ooooooooh, mmmmmm! got this as a freebie in a swap! i have added some everclear & made it into a *lovely* spray perfume. i wasn't expecting much, and wasn't in a hurry to try this one, but so pleasantly surprised! smells to me like amber with a very soft flower (and i dislike flowers) and possibly a hint o' vanilla or a fruit that sweetens it up nicely. what a nice surprise! kinda like O without the sweet factor? and i looove my O!
