voodoocatwoman Report post Posted June 21, 2009 Pink rock candy, strawberry cream, and splashes of gin, vermouth, and grenadine. Oh, man do I smell juniper and gin. Something very sweet is lilting right at the very top. (strawberry sugar candy? Grenadine?) Drydown doesn't change the order much, except the candy sweetness is stronger and lasts longer. Not bad. Schmoozy Report post Posted June 23, 2009 Fun, light hearted blend. Hints of strawberry and rock candy mingle with gin to create a fizzy, pink drink that is perfect for the summer. I love how the gin & vermouth balance out the sweetness of Velvet pink kitty, otherwise this could of been a little too sweet for my liking.
bookandbroom Report post Posted June 29, 2009 This one smells like being at Coney Island with a flask in your pocket on a hot summer's day. It's pink and artificially-colored and boozey as all hell ... and flirty and strong and overbearing and giddy, too. It makes me think of that particular faux-strawberry flavor that McDonald's milkshakes have, and like those milkshakes, there are times when the scent of pink tipsiness is the only thing that will do. hlemonds Report post Posted July 2, 2009 I'm going to make my first attempt at a review. I'm very new to BPAL, so please take this one worth a grain of salt A lovely friend sent me quite a few imps to try, and this was the first one i tried because, having read the reviews, i was very curious. From the description i thought surely it would be too sweet for me, i was afraid it would make me smell like fake strawberry candy. Thankfully that did not happen. I'm no good yet at picking individual notes. In the imp i do get a slight boozy quality, but once it hits my skin i really only get a bit of effervescence, no real "booze" smell. I consider this a VERY good thing since i have no interest in smelling like an empty pomegranate martini glass. Almost immediately this becomes a warm "pink" scent (i suppose that's the strawberries, but again i'm no good at notes). It is sweet, but not at all cloying on me. While wet, i do get a pleasant sharpness that is most likely the booze, but it doesn't make me think booze really. It's just enough to mellow out the sweetness. Once dry it is all smooth, warm, creamy, pinkness. I have already searched out a bottle, that's how much i love it. I'm a bit sad it seems to have very little throw for me, but it does wear reasonably well.
caffinatedangel Report post Posted July 8, 2009 (edited) This scent is that pink marshmallow salad concoction at the family reunion every year. My mom says it's called Heavenly Hash. My dad says it's called Heavenly Rice. I say it's a pink fluff of evil. It doesn't morph or change. Levels are the same. Throw is consistent. I sniff, and all I can see is me poking this weird blob on my plate, asking my mother for a fifth time if it's actually SAFE to eat it. Yep. Heavenly Hash. I'm keeping it for my amusement. But it's not something I could wear without laughing all day. Edited July 8, 2009 by CaffinatedAngel
Coldfire Report post Posted July 21, 2009 Decant: strawberry but not as sugary as I was expectingWet on Me: oh…the sugar part comes out. Strawberry cream nowDrying Down: now it’s like a strawberry cocktail. I get the alchohol touches now.Dry: this smells like something I’d drink when I am invoking my inner girlie goddess. The only thing that does not sit well on me is the traces of sugar. I’m glad I got to try it.
aquazoo Report post Posted September 14, 2009 That is one sweet drunk! If you like candy, you will love this one. Sweet and slightly fruity, with the boozy overtones.
Monster Report post Posted September 16, 2009 A lovely forum member provided me with a frimp of this Velvet Pink Kitty smells like it should be part of the Atomic Tiki Lounge series (which I love!) Wet on my skin this has a burst of boozy and refreshing gin notes, a moment later the gin almost completley disappears and is replaced with a deliciously sweet pink, candy-like strawberry scent VPK dries down to a lighter smelling, boozy version of Strawberry Moon 2005. Gah! This is wonderful. I think I might have to track down a bottle of this.
ElectraV Report post Posted December 8, 2009 In the imp: Very pink and sweet Wet: Strawberries, sugar and gin. This is really sweet Dry: Pink and creamy. Lots of sugar and strawberries and I love the hint of gin. This is amazing, and probably my perfect scent- I love foody scents, I love boozy scents and I love anything pink. This combines all three. PurringPulsar Report post Posted December 18, 2009 In the imp: strawberry sweets soaked in gin.Wet on skin: strawberries and gin.Dry on skin: thr gin amps completely! This smells predominantly like strong sharp gin on me, with a hint of candied sweetness. It’s a shame because I actually really like the strawberry here! For once it’s not turning to sugared acid on me, it smells sweet and sugared but I smell more of the rock candy, and I am reminded of Treat 1. The only difference is all that booze. The gin is a little too strong for me. I think I smell a bit of grenadine too-which is fruity and blends better with the candy notes. After a while: this wavers between smelling of gorgeous sweet strawberry liqueur and hard gin. I love the strawberry stage-I don’t know what’s keeping the strawberry under control, maybe the cream or the grenadine? But something is making sure this smells like strawberry, and stops it from turning sickly or sharp. And the sugar is perfect-it reminds me of the sugar in Xanthe. But then the gin comes in and interrupts this sweet strawberry scent. It reminds me of how the gin spoiled Blue Fire for me.Verdict: this is Treat 1-the adult version. Imagine Bon Vivant with the champagne replaced by hard booze. Or maybe Blue Fire with the blueberry replaced by strawberry. It is strawberry gin, pure and simple, with a shot of sugar. The strawberry note is actually really nice in here, it doesn’t screw up on my skin, despite being the candied variety. It smells like my ideal strawberry note. But the gin is so strong, so intrusive, and it amps on my skin, blotting out the strawberry. So sadly this is not a hit for me, despite the cuteness of the pink kitty art!Emoticon rating: Is it a keeper? maybe the decant. If you like this, try: Blue Fire, Bon Vivant, Floating Brain, Sticky Pillowcase, Velvet Unicorn, White Chocolate Strawberry
beliefunwrought Report post Posted December 18, 2009 I've tested this a couple times now and it just confuses me. In the imp it's lovely boozy strawberries with a hint of juniper. The second it touches my skin all I smell is strawberry banana. Strong strawberry banana. For hours. No candy. No gin. No cream. Where did the banana come from? I don't get it. filigree_shadow Report post Posted December 20, 2009 This one smells like one of the Tikis to me. Fruity and fizzy. The problem with scents like this is that I can't really tell them apart too much. The all just sort of smell fruity and fizzy. It's a nice scent and it smells exactly like the description, it's just not my cup of tea personally.
Deiicide Report post Posted March 13, 2010 In the bottle it's junipery love, which I guess is from the Gin. As soon as it hits my skin the booze literally explodes into a softy piney effervescent note. It's wonderful, the strawberry is in the background with the candy mixing with the other booze notes. They always do well on my skin so the fact that they amp for a bit doesn't surprise me. After awhile the booze dies down, and soft cremey strawberry candy remains. It's awesome, I'm glad I got a bottle when I first saw it.
Geminirubyshoes Report post Posted April 20, 2010 I have finally procured a bottle of this! its so fizzy strawberry, sparkling gin and tonic when sniffed out of the bottle. I think this belongs in Willy Wonka's factory I was afraid when I put this on it would smell like an icky cosmolpolitan but thankfully no! its sweet and creamy and light with a great throw. People have been saying I smell like strawberry shortcake all day LOL.
Gold Dust Kitten Report post Posted September 5, 2010 In the vial, gin and strawberry. On my skin, the gin disappears . There's the BPAL cream note, with strawberry. This is so delicious, I smell like a strawberry tres-leches cake. It would be nice if the gin stuck around to give this a little edge but I seriously love this anyway. white_jenna63 Report post Posted December 12, 2011 This is pink. Very pink. At first, you definitely get both the rock candy and cream pinks, but later it fades to a fluffy pink. There's some light booze notes; light as opposed to heavy wine notes. They're there, for sure. As always, I'm amazed at how BPAL manages to get "fizzy" to come across so well in a perfume. The booze backs off a little, so it's lovely pink fluff with a little bit of fizz. Lasted all day. Not too much throw.
sunlitgarden Report post Posted May 5, 2012 In the bottle: Strawberry cake with a hint of coolness from the gin/juniper. Wet on my skin it's mainly sweet strawberry with some juniper. It's not too strongly boozy on me, though I am getting some booze. It's the same sweet strawberry note from Velvet Unicorn, but without the cherry note that has recently turned medicinal/plasticy on me with VU. This is basically like a sweet fruity drink, and to me it could go in the Luau Lounge category. I enjoy that category, and I also love VPK. It's not really something to wear to work though, lest I smell like I just came from a bar.
cherrycherry Report post Posted September 3, 2012 I was worried about the booze notes - I like booze notes in general, but gin is not my friend! - but happily, this is all pink sugar, marshmallow, candyish, girly-sweetness and I am one very happy kitty right now. Yummy! *lick*
Ajila Report post Posted June 24, 2013 In the bottle - Candy floss and fizzy sweets Wet on me - A pink fizzy soap powdery scent Dry on me - A pink, fake strawberry candy scent, pretty long lasting Overall - I like it, but I can't help but feel it needs something to lift it
Missy_killer Report post Posted May 20, 2015 In the imp: This smells very nice. From the imp I smell sugar mostly. A light, white sugar! I can't say that I smell strawberries exactly, but there is also something light and pink mixed in here, very candy like. On: The same light pink and sugary smell. I can't pick out any of the listed notes, sadly. They all mingle together really well with eachother. I do want to say that this kitty has a citrus tone to it. And then I think I start smelling the cream. Now, the cream in BPAL is either a win for me, or it smells iffy. This one starts with the iffy, but thankfully the rest of the blend saves it, and it turns out to smell like a strawberry marshmallow! there's no alcohol or fizz here yet, which I'm actually perfectly fine with. About an hour in and it's already fading. Smells like a creamy, light pink candy. Like a marshmallow but not. It's a beautiful scent though, and even though the notes faded I could still smell the sweetness on my skin for hours afterwards.
Soupy Twist Report post Posted January 30, 2016 Juniper and strawberry candy in the bottle, but the juniper note never makes it to the skin. All I get is hard strawberry candy — an authentically fake note, if that makes sense.
LizziesLuck Report post Posted March 14, 2016 This was not even on my radar, but I am so happy and grateful I was able to swap for a bottle! This is perfection. I love how Beth can make "fizziness" a smell. Magical! This is sweet, a bit creamy, fruity, and effervescent. For once, the strawberry doesn't go to plastic on me. The effervescence keeps this from being TOO sweet and cloying on me. I am going to cherish this bottle and thoroughly enjoy wearing it in the summer. A perfect summer scent! Fun, girly, mostly innocent, but just a hint of naughty.
mandragora369 Report post Posted March 1, 2018 I expected this to be creamy and sweet. Unfortunately it is neither creamy nor sweet on me. It is quite sharp, boozy and floral. After application I can detect a faint strawberry note. But my skin amps the boozy grenadine note. Not even a sweet candy note is there, but I don't know what rock candy is or how this smells. I really wanted this to work, but it just doesn't smell good.
VetchVesper Report post Posted May 29, 2020 Wanted to review this one since there were several very pink, very lovely, strawberry fragrances in this years Luper release. Rope Pulley and Party Tricks, I'm looking at you. I wanted to compare. I bought my bottle of VPK lab fresh of Etsy a couple years ago. Think pink. Strawberry cream candy pink. In this way, it's very much like Rope Pulley. I've had issues with strawberry smelling plasticy or "lip-smackery" on me, but this one, like RP and PT, works. The gin is what sells VPK for me, though. It elevates it above simple pink confection by adding a fizzy, tart contrast against the sugar, making it feel a little more grown up and perfect for summer. It's definitely a keeper. If you put liked this one, Rope Pulley is a less complex cousin, and Champagne and Maraschino Cherries has a similar contrast of sugary pink vs. tart fizz. Not dupes, but worth looking into.
