Iceblink Report post Posted December 10, 2009 A lighthearted winter scent: chilly vanilla rose snowballs! Dainty, soft, and certainly unfit for flinging! Oh, lovely! This just SQUEALS pink. Soft powdery rose/flowers (I almost want to say I smell some carnation) and equally soft vanilla. Makes me think of a fluffy girly old-fashioned boudoir. Nice throw, too. This'll be a bottle for sure if the staying power is good.
Ravenclaw79 Report post Posted December 10, 2009 First whiff: Roses! Pink roses, a whole freakin' ROOM full! Drying down: Say, who just did dishes? *sniffs* Drat, it's me. I smell like Palmolive.
izile Report post Posted December 11, 2009 I had read a lot of the reviews saying it was like Snow White + Rose Red, and got all excited. In the bottle: I'd say totally Snow White, maybe a little hint of greenness in the background Wet: I can smell the Rose Red in there, but it's kind of like in the comic book "Fable" Snow White is definitely the dominant sister and hardly anyone ever remembers Rose Red. Dry: Powdery, soft, sweet, Snow White. . roses? .. I can't find them *le sigh* and I'd had such high hopes. I wonder what would happen if I could layer it with a little The Rose to restore the balance so it doesn't end up *just* like last years Snow White on me. musichappens Report post Posted December 12, 2009 When I first applied this, it reminded me of walking into a bathroom at a fancy restaurant. I know, weird. As it begins to dry down, it begins to become more feminine and less "cleaner-ish." The rose is up-front with just the perfect amount of Snow White; there is also this creamy note in the background that just rounds it out beautifully! I think I'm going to need a bottle. hlemonds Report post Posted December 12, 2009 So, for the longest time i avoided anything that listed rose as a note. Having had some bad experiences with rose (once, my brother bought my mom this super stinky rose scented hand balm, i put it on once, and it nearly made me vomit. Then, this other time, at band camp....no wait) and it's interaction with my skin (Persephone, i'm looking at you), i was convinced i must steer clear. Then i had the opportunity to test Pink Snowballs at a meet n' sniff, and i fell in LOVE. Right of the bat i definitely get the similarity to Snow White. That said, i prefer Pink Snowballs (although i still really do enjoy Snow White). The rose element in Pink Snowballs is very soft, but it is also a vibrant, youthful rose. Pink Snowballs makes me think of soft, blushing, nubile flesh. It is lovely, and sweet, and i adore it. As with Snow White, this fragrance has excellent throw on me. It is soft, but somehow potent at the same time. In that sense it also reminds me of The Girl.
Molls Report post Posted December 13, 2009 well, I bought a bottle of this right off the bat, because I just KNEW it was going to be awesome. I love rose! I love snow! I have an iffy relationship with vanilla, but was willing to take the chance. *sigh* This smells exactly like Snow White to me. I did not like Snow White. Sure, there's a teensy bit of rose trying to peek out, but it wasn't enough to make much of a difference.
Prism Report post Posted December 13, 2009 in bottle - rose, slight plasticky scent which I believe is my nose misinterpreting something. and vanilla.. Wet - a very faint rose. With lots of vanilla. It's somewhat like victoria, but not. I don’t get the plastic bit anymore. Dry - mostly vanilla, and...something else. a non rose floral? There's just a hint of rose in this. 6/10 I was really hoping for something more like Victoria, or Rose Red.
boxinghelena Report post Posted December 13, 2009 From the notes listed, I usually stay away from rose scents since it turns to soap on me BUT from the reviews, people mentioned Snow White & Red Rose, two scents with rose that actually worked on me. I took a chance & that's exactly what I'm getting in Pink Snowballs, a mix of Snow White & Rose Red but a tad sweeter on me. It smells divine!
surlygurl Report post Posted December 13, 2009 Rose & I don't usually get along, but the name sounded so cute that I had to get a decant. On my skin, it's 98.7% snow white - the remainder being the faintest pink rose. Maybe the rose in place of a different floral in snow white. Whatever role it plays, it's barely there. On me, it's not that big a deal. Oh well.
kbrighton Report post Posted December 14, 2009 This is lovely, just lovely. Soft and pink, roses and vanilla, exactly as I expected when first reading the description. To me Pink Snowball has the same soft young girly vibe that Alice does. Many reviewers are saying this is Snow White plus Red Rose I've never smelled Snow White, so maybe that's what I'm picking up. I ordered a bottle unsniffed and am quite glad that I did. This is going to be one of my favorites. So very happy.... and curious now to give Snow White a try
sunshinedaisybliss Report post Posted December 15, 2009 I had to try this one, because I've recently discovered Snow White which has become a major love for me. I don't usually handle rose very well - my skin amps it badly. However.. I've had some luck with very soft pink rose, so this was worth a try. When the oil was still wet on my skin, I thought OH YES this is gorgeous - beautiful vanilla, the lovely touch of snow that's very Snow White-ish, and a gentle sweet soft pink rose. Then.. WHAM the rose overtook the vanilla, and it all went horribly wrong from there - in the end, I was left with something that smelt like those cheap air freshener sprays people use in the bathroom. Given that my favourite Snow White is from 2005, I might hang on to this bottle and see whether it changes a few months from now, but I don't think I'll be keeping it. It is, however, very very pretty and I'm envious of people who are lucky enough to have rose-tolerant skin.
gingiemay Report post Posted December 16, 2009 I can see where people are getting the Snow White + Rose Red description, but on me Rose Red is a much stronger, more powerful seductive rose. Rose Red is serious business. The rose in Pink Snowballs, however, is light, fresh and girly. It's cute and fun and flirty. I do get the chilly vanilla floral, almost identical to Snow White, from this in the bottle and on the dry down, but it's blended beautifully with the fresh rose note I described above. So far I love it, and I think it's close enough to Snow White that I don't need to track down a bottle from this year's release; I have last years and still love it. I should also note that Rose is usually ugh, ugh, ugh powder awful on me so I'm excited to have found a rose blend that works.
femmefatale Report post Posted December 16, 2009 (edited) Not surprising, though I'm still sad, this went straight to rose soap/dish detergent on me. I have to accept the fact that I just can't wear any "snow" scents. Edited December 16, 2009 by Femme_Fatale
AliBabble Report post Posted December 17, 2009 uh oh. it's not working on me. i prefer the purity of snow white i guess...since i love snow white and rose red, i thought pink snowballs would work for sure, but i'm getting an intense rose of the glade air freshener variety, blotting out the softness of the snow white layer...gonna try again on a different day, but i think this one may be a lost cause for me. roses are tricky for me - some work great, others not so great. oh well. PeshaRocha Report post Posted December 18, 2009 For some reason, I have trouble picking out the vanilla as such. I smell the light rose and can definitely tell there's other scents in there, too, but not what they are. The best description I can come up with for what this smells like to me is baby powder without the powdery component. In any case, to me this is an infant's or child's scent without a hint of sophistication. Sweet, but not for me. I was expecting the vanilla to round it out and give it a more complex effect, but it doesn't.
CiaoBonefish Report post Posted December 19, 2009 Another Yule I have fallen in love with! A lovely Moryssa on this forum sent me a bundle of yule partials to test and I'm so glad because they are my favorite bpals thus far! Moryssa told me she wanted to send me snow white but when she realized she didn't have a decant she sent pink snowballs instead because they're very similar. I actually had received a decant of snow white from kmasden earlier so I could compare them. I had already tried snow white and didn't fall in love so I didn't really have too high hopes for pink snowballs. I opened the decant and lo and behold it smells jut like snow white to my nose, BUT along with snow white came a creamy deliciousness that was well VERY inviting. I don't even know why but I felt drawn to the scent. I applied some to my wrists and instantly noticed something different something I wasn't expecting. I liked it! After wearing it for a while, it grew on me, grew on me so much that I was trying to casually position my wrists by my nose so I could smell it and not look like I was trying to smell the perfume oil o my wrists. Ahhh. It smells like creamy snow with sugar and creamy vanilla goodness. I also smelled something feminine and sweet. Now I realize it was the roses, although it is very fait it still never truly disappears. Just stays in the background being beautiful. I decided to whip out snow white again to compare them (I have them both on right now), and when compared side by side, pink snowballs is much softer, creamier, and whoa roses. They were faint before, but when compared to snow white they are really prominent. That doesn't make them bad or anything, but it smells more creamy sugar soft rose floral now compared to snow white. It is crazy how scents can morph depending on what scents are near it! That being said, Pink Snowballs is essentially a wonderful creamy vanilla snow saturated with sugar and with a faint hint of soft roses, lovely and soft. I think I will definitely get a bottle of this
oakmoss Report post Posted December 19, 2009 Oh, pretty pretty pretty! I tend to like most of BPAL's rose blends, so I'm always happy to try a new one. As others have said here, this is Snow White's identical cousin (they laugh alike, they walk alike....) but she has a softer accent and fades into the corners a bit more. Gentle rose sweetened with vanilla and the faintest hint of the snow note, not edging into the mint zone. If you like Black Opal, Mouse's Long and Sad Tale, and Antique Lace, you will probably like this as well. I am delighted, as almost every other blend I've tried this year has not worked on me -- either too sharp or too musky or just too weird, though I enjoy sniffing things even though I can't actually wear them. This blend is lovely, and I look forward to giving it lots of wrist time in the coming months.
filigree_shadow Report post Posted December 19, 2009 Pink Snowballs - This is all vanilla and red rose, and smells almost exactly like Arcana's Rapunzel, which I adore. I agree with that whole sentence completely. This smells like BPAL's Snow White and Arcana's Rapunzel got together for an afternoon tryst. I approve. Smells fantastic. Lovely, soft, creamy, and not too rosy. My husband likes it a lot as well.
Ondine Report post Posted December 20, 2009 I love rose scents, and I really am not getting a lot of rose out of this. I also cannot do snow scents--Snow White is always terrible on me--and this smells slightly, but not heavily, of Snow White. What this does smell like on me is a small, rose-shaped, "pink" scented guest soap in a hotel bathroom or that pink soap that comes out of gas station liquid soap holders. It smells like the color pink, but not like a light, girlish pink that might be bubblegum or candy, but on me at least a nauseating pink that's like gas station bathroom soap that won't wash off. milo Report post Posted December 22, 2009 (edited) The rose is screaming at ME. "Get me off this Bee-otch, she can't wear rose worth sh_t". <img src="http://www.bpal.org/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/00000288.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="00000288.gif" /> This is screaming, sour rose, that goes rather soapy, not sweet at all. I get a touch of vanilla that is somewhat similar to Snow White, but overall this is a soapy rose mess. 2011 version: This is coconut and vanilla in the imp, with just a touch of rose. Much the same on the skin, but after a bit, the vanilla takes a back seat and the coconut disappears. This is mainly a soft, sweet rose now. Still not my cup of tea, but it is much nicer than last years version. Edited January 12, 2012 by milo
DeltaCat Report post Posted December 22, 2009 This. is. beautiful. Roses with a slight creamy vanilla. Beautiful. I do not get any of the snow or coldness smell. Just roses with a slight vanilla.
dreadpiraterustypants2 Report post Posted December 23, 2009 expect- snow white creamyness with a tea rose imp- excatley that- wet- more little girl-ish than I expected- a plastic tea set, the rose is faint~ verdict- mmm, this might grow on me-perhaps I will apply it in the secret corners of my life. The teddy bears are thirsty you know!
Aldercy Report post Posted December 24, 2009 (edited) Pink Snowballs is very like Snow White, but a little more rich and womanly on my skin. While SW went thin and plasticky, Pink Snowballs stays true. Snow (a slightly minty variety-- but not very much, or it would have turned me off)... ice cream... and a musky floral that smells pink, but doesn't really smell like rose to me. I like this blend quite a lot. Edited December 24, 2009 by Aldercy
azndragoncrimson Report post Posted December 25, 2009 As a lover of Katrina Van Tassel, who blooms into a rich honey and rose scent on me, I was very curious to try this one. On me, this is straight Snow White [which, incidentally, smells like Dana O'shea on me too] and if I try really hard I can maybe pick out some rose. Alright, another yule to pass! So I personally am not enamored by Pink Snowballs, but glad to hear that so many people are enjoying it!
silver_springs Report post Posted December 30, 2009 This was a gift from my fiance. It was the one Yule I picked out if I could have any. I am a HUGE fan of Snow White, it's in my top 5 so I was eager to try this. At first I see the comparison, the scent is very similar but the dry-down to Pink Snowballs is much more powdery than Snow White, the rose really comes in. I've never tried Rose Red so I can't make that comparison. At first I was not crazy about the dry-down, it just smelled like expensive baby powder. But I was determined to have it work because I don't have the heart to swap anything someone else bought me. I was glad I stuck it through because give Pink Snowballs some time and it sweetens up a great deal and smells lovely, still a bit powdery but more notes come out. It has pretty decent lasting power too. I think Pink Snowballs is a more mature and womanly cousin of Snow White. Between the two I can't deny I would still prefer Snow White but Pink Snowballs turned out pretty nice and I'll wear it a lot in the winter time I think. It's a great go-to scent, you can wear it work, out to dinner, meeting someone new and I think it fits pefectly.
