MVJHL Bake Sale v3

Recommended Posts

In the bottle this is very sweet foody blend, almost like butterscotch, but not quite. On the skin, it blossoms into a gourmand, rich, buttery, maple syrup scent. Like the way syrup smells when it's drizzled on buttered pancakes. It has very strong throw, at least on my skin, and lasts HOURS.

Sniffed: Slightly cloudy pale yellow oil. Foody, slightly boozy. Pancakes, maple syrup, butterscotch, and coffee? Very sweet, but not heavily or cloyingly. Oh wait...I know what this is - BANANA BREAD! But delicious. I usually recoil from banana, but not this.

Wet: I take it back, it's not maple syrup - it's fake pancake syrup with a hefty dose of butterscotch, over rich, fluffy, buttery banana pancakes. It's much sweeter, a bit tooth-achingly so, on my skin. Corn syrupy. The buttery note is not like the lab's typical butter note - it's not a savoury note, or artificial. It's a very TRUE buttery note. I can even smell the buttermilk and baking soda (very very slightly tangy) in the pancakes - it's that realistic. Amazing.

Dry: My roommate thinks it smells like caramel corn, and I do agree - that corn syrup/butterscotch note is quite caramel-corny indeed. This is getting increasingly buttery, and it's going TOO buttery for me. Wet, the syrupy sweetness was in command, while dry, the butter is definitely in command. The light, natural banana note holds. I detect a slight trend towards that sort of musty/powdery drydown that many baked good foodies do on me.

Later: I think there is definitely some tonka in this. Also, this is now reminding me a fair bit of Eggnog Latte's later drydown. Also, those golden-orangey-yellow butterscotch hard candies that come in the sort of orangey plastic twisted wrappers, with a faint hint of flavoured coffee & buttery creamer. It's odd how the coffee note comes out so much more on drydown but isn't really present in the earlier stages. This also reminds me of Splatter Comedy, but it's a much richer scent and the banana note is much, much, much lighter and totally different (realistic).

Summary: Morphs alot, and it's very complex for a foody. It never actually goes musty, but stays bright. It's very rich and very sweet. I pick out butterscotch, butter, natural banana, pancakes, corn syrup, coffee, and cream - with probably some combo of tonka and vanilla. Definitely some tonka, actually. Strong throw and crazy strong longevity.

In the Bottle: maple syrup, pancakes, and coffee (the coffee note used here is similar to the one in Eggnog Latte)

Wet on Skin: maple syrup, pancakes, butterscotch, coffee, and hints of butter and caramel

Dry: pancakes, butter (a lot stronger), maple syrup, coffee, and hints of butterscotch and caramel. After about a half an hour, the butter note backs down quite a bit and the maple syrup and butterscotch get stronger. After about 1 1/2 hrs, the coffee note begins to fade

OK, so I used to think I loved coffee notes, but this blend has just forced me to realize that probably isn't the case. One of the first BPAL blends I fell in love with was Pinched with Four Aces. Before testing Pinched, I'd had previous experience with tobacco and woods, but neither were friends of mine. Coffee was the only unfamilar note (well, as far as use in perfume goes), so I assumed that must be the note I was in love with. However, since then I've tried every coffee blend that BPAL (and pretty much every other e-tailer) has to offer, and I've disliked... even hated every one of them. But then again, the coffee note in Pinched is unlike any other I've ever smelled.... this one included. So the question is..... do I keep this blend for the delicious nearly coffee free dry-down, or do I swap it away???

Gah! My skin chemistry is so weird. Initially, I smelled burnt pencil shavings( is this supposed to be the coffee scent people have mentioned?? maybe burnt butter, I don't know) and a slight aroma of caramel. Did not like at all. Luckily, the pencil shavings smell took a hike when the caramel decided to dominate. ~But~ it took awhile for this to happen.

I'm still on the fence about this one though. The pencil shavings really threw me.

This is real pancakes and warm maple syrup at the start, it`s delicious and smells completely like the real thing. I can detect the banana bread too, as the other reviewers already wrote. But the best must come yet! In the drydown, after one hour it becomes the best coffee blend I ever tried, fragrant, deep and rich like an italian espresso with a dribble of caramel! Oh, such a joy is this blend! :wub2:

Love this!!! Starts out total banana bread on me then the benzoin/caramel notes come out so it smells all warm and snuggly. Definate foody but that mellows as it dries down. This is one of those blends that just makes me smile. it also has some great throw to it.

Dear god. This is pancakes, butter and.... bananas? I think really the best way to describe this banana pancakes with a healthy dollop of syrup and butter.

It's too sweet for me. But enticingly realistic.

I'm hungry now. :yum:

This starts as pure banana bread on my skin. And lets ask ourselves seriously, "What bake sale doesn't include banan bread?" It is realistic too. Then it slowly turns into butterscotch- caramel type scent. Then pancakes. This is a morpher. It finally seems to settle down at ancakes with maple syrup, and a touch of coffee.

In the bottle: Banana Bread with a bit of boozy butterscotch

Wet: Banana bread! And then it morphs to coffee..

Dry: This is the most morphing I have ever had with a single scent. It stays coffee and then goes to coffee and something sweet and baked and then goes to maple syrup and slowly gets a more pancakes and maple syrup scent. This scent is VERY strong.

Unfortunately.. no banana bread for me. When this hits my skin, it's a blast of butterscotch-caramel. Then I notice the strong pastry/cake behind that, and there it is - sticky toffee pudding. You know those little muffin-shaped pudding cakes, the ones you turn upside down and all the hot caramel sauce oozes all over it? One of those.

This is very strong - I only put a teensy drop on, but it has massive throw. And it stayed on my skin For Ever, I actually had to wipe it down a bit because I kinda don't like it... brown sugar smells are not my friend. But if this ever gets released, everyone who enjoys caramel/cake combo type blends is going to love it!!

BLARGH! Maple syrup and butterscotch. I'm getting some weird celery note here too, which can happen with some of the really sugary scents. Not for me.

In the vial and on my skin at first, this smells like maple syrup, burnt brown sugar, and something bread-y. After a while, I think I'm getting the butterscotch that other people have mentioned, because this starts to remind me of the sharp butterscotch note that I get from Creepy. I think I can smell something like the banana pancakes that other reviewers have mentioned, but this is mostly a mess of buttery sugar smells on me. After an hour, I can smell a hint of coffee grounds mixed with pancakes that have been smothered in butter, sugar, and butterscotch. It's intensely sweet. It has decent throw and sticks around on my skin for 4-5 hours.

I think that this is too sweet for me, and my husband doesn't care for buttery scents, so he hates this one on me. I might use up the rest of my decant in an oil warmer, though.

This is almost all pancake syrup on my skin. I had hoped for banana bread, or even butterscotch, but no such luck for me. :(

And, jeez, does this have throw! I skin tested a drop of this--one drop. And my husband came in the door an hour later and said it reeked of pancakes in the room. While he won't say that he hates it on me, he does admit it's too strong for his tastes.

I don't get any bananas from this (but it could be my nose that doesn't quite smell correctly or fully) - I get a very warm foody scent - caramel, butterscotch, and pastry - almost like Underbed if you stripped away all of the cassia. I imagine this would have been very popular if it had been released - I imagine its namesake when I catch a whiff of it - just a mixture of cake and cookies on a table wrapped in colorful plastic wrap with little price stickers - and the heavenly smell that would have wafted around the entire table.

LOVE. :wub2:

I don't think Bake Sale is unique, it smells like a lot of other BPAL baked goods scents, but that doesn't make me like it any less. It's like going to the Summer Summoning Pancake Breakfast and someone's spritzed the dining hall with Sugar Skull atmosphere spray. The pancakes are topped with Mother Shub's Peanut Brittle Caramel Popcorn and then covered with a layers of butter, syrup, and caramel. And when the sweetness starts to stick your teeth together, you reach for your cup, and find that it's full of maple syrup. So basically, it's like the best breakfast ever.
