fairnymph Report post Posted December 6, 2009 Sniffed: Pale gold oil. Very different from released O or v5! The amber note smells different, much lighter, softer - reminds me of the note in L'Estate - actually this blend has lots in common with that scent - I think it also has sunflower, that slightly dry, warm floral note. Also some soft floral note that reminds me of Pink Moon 2005 - I think it's that same carnation. Light honey and even lighter vanilla. A little creamier. Much less sweet and much more delicate than the other Os. Wet: Spicier! Carnation for sure, and yep, it's that same note from Pink Moon 2005. The honey is similar too, it's there but it's not prominent as in PM. The sunflower is a tiny bit dusty, but mostly just sort of golden-warm. There is a hint of that cloying plastic aspect that I hate about the other Os, but it's very faint. I think it might be a saffron or a vanilla note that's responsible for that aspect, I've concluded. Also unlike the other Os this has low throw & sticks close to the skin. The honey/carnation combo reminds me a bit of Maiden v2. Dry: Carnation amping and becoming spicier! I think that it's the same note in both PM & M v2 and here. It smells really pink to me; it's bright and girly, a little sassy, but not that sort of intense, clove-y sharp spiciness that some carnations are. It's also velvety in feel without being at all dusty. Carnation rules, with honey & sunflower just below, then more distantly vanilla (very creamy and soft, not too rich, definitely different from the other Os), and lastly very faint whispers of amber and that sharp plastic note. These last notes stick so close to my skin and are so light that I think I can handle them. Later: This feels like a warm golden afternoon in late Summer, but with a bit of bright pink girliness thrown in. Relaxed but not boring, there's that quiet spark of carnation that keeps this from being totally languid, perks it up somehow, but in a way that absolutely works. Very feminine and youthful but mature, not naive. Sweet, but only lightly. Very balanced and seamlessly blended. The honey/carnation combo reminds me so strongly of Pink Moon & Maiden v2; the balance of notes is more similar to PM, but that has other, more prominent that thus differentiate it more. Summary: Nearly carnation SN from a distance! It amps up and holds strongly, giving this scent far better throw on drydown than in the earlier stages. It's softly sweetened by the very true, light, and not at al cloying/syrupy honey note, and ever so slightly powdery from that hazy warm golden amber and almost-dusty sunflower. These are distant, faint notes though. The sharp plastic note fades away virtually completely after about 2 hours. A simpler cross between Maiden v2 & L'Estate, without the other floral notes of either. Shockingly lovely. Good throw and decent longevity. I'm not sure that this is 'me', and I already have Maiden v2 which I adore and doesn't have the briefly annoying wet stage - and also has better throw and longevity and is less 'dry'. But I expect this to be one of the most popular of the new protos.
slave1 Report post Posted December 6, 2009 O v6 (prototype) In Bottle: Sweet honey and powder On Skin: This honey is much more sweet than the regular O. O is my trademark BPAL scent that I wear more than anything. it gives a feeling of confidence and beauty. But... then this version quickly goes to powder on me... and the dreaded pencil shaving stage. No!!! I was so excited for it from the bottle, but on my skin it loses it's sweet stickiness and becomes very dry and almost pure powder. I think the amber just takes over, and normally amber works on me, but here it's having an odd reaction to my chemistry. It does have a warm side and I do sense a very faint light spice in the background. I agree with fairynymph that it may be carnation (or geranium), but I think it is so slight it's almost not there. You have to really search for it. After an hours wear there is still some sweetness, but for the most part it is dry and dusty. Not at all the way the normal O smells on me. I would say it smells slot more like Sed Non Satiata if I had to compare it... After that hour if fades very quickly. The throw on the scent is very light and I would say it has a short wearlength. heathercaley Report post Posted December 17, 2009 Well Hellllllo there sweeter version of O! You're FANTASTIC! Wet: it's O on sugar coated crack! It's so bright and beautiful and somewhat "pink". Drying down: It goes through the same morphing stage as original O where the honey comes out to play in its powdery way. It really is just like regular O, but turned all the way up to 11! The honey in this is just like Kama Sutra Honey Dust body powder!! What a wonderful and sexy scent association Almost Dry: WOW! It doesn't loose any of that punch! It's still glowing on my arm, making me think of sexy naughty things. Dry now: It's O for sure, but brighter and with an extra dollop of sexy innocence. tarotgirl99 Report post Posted December 20, 2009 (edited) In the bottle, I'd say Ov6 is O Lite, a kinder, gentler version. It's more ethereal. Wet, it's an absolute dream. I understand the comparison to Maiden v. 2, it's like honeyspun Fairy O. As it dries down, it goes through phases of being slightly plastic-y, but then it goes back to gorgeousness. And back again and back again. It lasts forever (overnight!) and there's more gorgeousness than plastic. Thanks to a dear BPAL'er for the gift. zankoku_zen Report post Posted December 22, 2009 Hmm. Definitely honey, vanilla and carnation. I think there's amber in here as it turns slightly powdery. This is less aggressive than the released version and definitely more delicate. I get some major honey out of this.
crebbsgirl Report post Posted December 22, 2009 I totally agree with previous reviewers about this being a softer more delicate O. There is a powderyness here that is not in the released version for me. It's sugar-spun with hints of carnation in there, adding a little floral spice. There is a little creaminess here as well. I like this alot. I'm not sure but I think I can detect a trace amount of orris in here, or something that my skin is translating as orris.
sunshinedaisybliss Report post Posted January 8, 2010 Well.. this is interesting, and not like the O we all know so well - what a nice surprise! I can't really add much to what's already been said.. this is very creamy, warm and languid. When it first hits my skin, I'm guessing there's a touch of amber, light honey, and something pink-ish - is it carnation? I'm not getting any of the pepperiness that carnation sometimes has, and this feels more 'pink' than carnation usually does, but I'll defer to the judgement of those with a far better nose than me on that one! When completely dry, the honey comes up stronger but it never goes over the edge into sweet honey - it stays dry and soft, and I'm pretty sure that there's amber in here because I'm now getting a slight hint of baby powder. Actually, it's gone quite girly frills on me - the pink factor has amped up. This actually reminds me a little of my lovely old Hod, it doesn't really smell like Hod, but it has a similar feel - very creamy. Overall, a very nice and smooth blend that I think would be lovely for a summer's day when you want to smell soft, clean and sweet.
Little Bird Report post Posted February 1, 2010 I get tons of carnation from this scent. It's a sweet, dry, spicy carnation rather than a fresh carnation smell, but still definitely smells like carnations on me. I get tons of dry carnation and little hints of the dry, golden amber & honey that I associate with O. The amber and honeyed vanilla do get stronger in the drydown, but they don't overpower the carnation at all. The released version of O has a tendency to go powdery and cloying on my skin, but O v6 isn't powdery or overly sweet on me. It's not quite as strong as O, but it does last all day on me and it has decent throw.
Invidiana Report post Posted March 4, 2010 Carnation? Really? I get a very vanilla honey with a possible hint of spice (might be a drop of carnation in there, who knows), but the vanillaed honey is the dominant, and sometimes really rich honeys seem to have a tinge of spice with my chemistry, not like I mind. This is like the yang to O v5's yin; v5 is more honey, this is more sweet creamy vanilla, both of them are downright gorgeous. If there is carnation in here at all maybe the reason the Great Carnation of Doom is (thankfully) not showing up is because I usually tend to amp the sweeter notes in a blend and the honey and vanilla won the deathmatch with it in .0002 seconds. It clings close to th eskin like v5, though my chemistry tends to broadcast even skin scents within a decent radius of me, but has excellent staying power and a sweet sensuality about it. The maintenance guy in the office who stops by every day just to sniff my bottles (true story) got the tiniest bit on his finger and told me the next day that he couldn't stop huffing it like a maniac for hours. myth Report post Posted June 17, 2010 Sugary sweetness like simple syrup, and honey. Then honey honey honey. Starts pretty but ultimately fails at honey, which is not a note I can wear, as it turns funky on me.
bheansidhe Report post Posted July 28, 2010 A much drier, less sweet version of O v5. Amber is the immediate top note in this blend. This one is ever so slightly boozy, like cognac or mead, but without the alcoholic note. This dries to a much more womanly, seductive "skin scent" kind of smell, predominantly soft (but not powdery) amber and lightly acrid (on me) honey. Final: to my shock, this wears down to a light, powdery amber that works better with my skin than the released O. I actually like this blend.
Gold Dust Kitten Report post Posted November 5, 2010 I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a prototype for Bengal rather than O. It's a spicy carnation honey with an almost overbearing sweetness that just knocks you over the head. It's much different than the GC O, which I love to death. I'm really enjoying this version because it smells like my beloved Bengal which I can't wear because of the cinnamon.
lilacea Report post Posted November 9, 2010 This certainly is O with carnation. I'm having a hard time making a conection with it to the O I know, as I amp carnation so much. There's honey and a touch of dusty amber, but the carnation is at the forefront here. I'm getting a slightly creamy vanilla note too. It is however a lighter carnation, not super spicy like some can be, and I think this is because it is in combination of such smooth flowing notes that keep it in check. I'm also picking up the lightest hints of tea. It's a light, clear floral honey blend, not at all heavy, but I am glad that carnation didn't make it into the final product as I am not a big fan. saralaughs Report post Posted April 30, 2011 (edited) OMGWTFBBQSAUCE!! No, I'm being serious. This is BBQ sauce on me. This is the kind of honey that was/is in Autumn Moon of the Mirror Stand. Unfortunately, that honey (with the addition of mayhap a bit of spice) turns to BBQ Sauce on me. Slather me and stick me on a damn spit because DAMN. It smells like good BBQ Sauce but still... IMO (and definitely compared to Ov5), this is a very sweet, cloying, heavy honey. Definitely sweet and sticky. There may be some amber in here as well but I doubt it. I agree with the bit of tea assesment though. And maybe, just a bit, of carnation. If you can't tell already, this is not for me. yakiguri Report post Posted July 30, 2011 This is a much sweeter, more golden version of regular release O. I unfortunately get no vanilla, and the amber is very quiet in the background. I do get the soft spicy floral note that I others have pointed out as carnation, and if it is indeed carnation I'm a little disappointed in how weak its spiciness is here. Then again orientals are my favorite fragrance family, so I'm quite picky when it comes to them. Interesting enough to keep the decant, but I don't foresee ever needing a bottle. I'm surprised at how much stronger the staying power of Ov6 is over regular O though, it hangs on at least 2 hours more.
angelamaria Report post Posted September 15, 2011 In bottle: spicy! Spicy, creamy, and sweet. Disclaimer: actually, I have no idea what the released O smells like. I still haven't tried any. Anyway, back to this prototype: thickly sweet honey, and a bit of floral. Is that carnations? Wet on skin: mmm, vanilla, honey, and a carnation-y floral. Beautiful. Slightly powdery, but the amber note is light and golden and pretty. Less thickly sweet than the bottle scent. Promising! I am really loving this light, sweet honey. Dry: mmmm, powdery amber, honey, and vanilla, and that floral carnation note, though I think there has to be another floral or two here. There might be a hint of the carnation-clove, but the sweetness is so OUT THERE that it's not noticeable! So basically the clove-ness and the syrupy sweetness are cancelling each other out and leaving behind a not-too-spicy and not-too-sweet blend of beautiful amber, vanilla, florals and honey. Verdict: this definitely feels like a keeper. I'm not too on-board with the carnations, but it IS pretty...but I'll reserve judgement about whether to hold on to this or not until I test out the released O, or O v5 (I bought a decant of it a while ago, but it got lost in the package apparently--and I can't seem to grab hold of the seller now...). LizziesLuck Report post Posted December 8, 2016 Wet: Smells like O, and something spicy. It's trying to go just a wee bit plastic on me, but it may recover from that. I hope so, because it has potential to be lovely. It's sweet, and I think has more amber and less vanilla than the released. Not sure about the honey, as I say, it's sweet, but indiscriminately. Dry: This smells almost exactly like O once it's dry, on me at least. The throw especially smells just like O, but nose to skin I catch a faint difference, in that I think there is some sort of floral note in this that goes vaguely soapy, or clean smelling. Not unpleasant, but different from O. Enough that I like the released version better, and will likely rehome this. Glad I got to try it, though!
