BPAL Madness!

Recommended Posts

Vampire smut: patchouli-infused honey, red musk, red sandalwood, red ginger, pink pepper, Peru balsam, dark Eastern florals, Himalayan cedar, smoky vanilla, bitter clove, and leather.

In the imp: I smell myrrh (which isn't listed amongst the notes), a heady honey and dark musk. It's supposed to be red musk in here, but it reads more black musk to me. It's definitely a deep, heady scent. Perfect for a smutty (and slutty) vampire!

I close up the cap and lean back, and I smell a much sweeter scent but grounded up by the patchouli. It's VERY strong.

On: A thick, yeasty smell, peppery and patchouli-heavy. It's got that black musk or vetiver "soot"-feel that typically ruins most scents to me. Is it the clove making that happen? I don't smell any honey, ginger or vanilla. Nothing to sweeten or lighten it up. 15 minutes later and still no change. It's heavy and peppery with no sweetness at all.

An hour or so later VILF sweetens up quite a bit. A thick and super sweet honey wrapped around the yeasty pepper. Unfortunately I don't think VILF is for me.

Wet: Pepper!!!!!

Drying: Still very peppery! The leather peaks through and shares equal footing with the pepper. This is unfortunate as I dislike leather! It has ruined many a blend. About 30-40 minutes in I can smell the musk. It's vanilla musky peppery leather. I'm afraid this decant is off to swaps unless it morphs to something yummy soon!

ETA: It morphed into a patchouli single note. ARG!

On me, this is leather. Sexy as HECK leather with a hint of sweetness from the honey and grounded by the woodsy notes and spices. I sniff this and think, "This is what my other leather blends aspire to be." The patchouli-infused honey really becomes prominent as it dries, and it makes me want to eat my arm.

I usually have a fantastic miss rate with the harder-to-find scents, but not this time around. I'm definitely holding onto this decant and am probably doomed to a Bottle Quest.

edit: Effin' a, this dries into the loveliest woodsy clove scent. This is perfect. Why must I fall in love with you?

VILF

In the Bottle: Generic musky, slightly smoky cologne

Wet: Whoah, I get a lot of smoky cologne from this, but then opening up almost immediately, is this honey and chemical leather ..what? I wasn’t expecting that, lol. There is a lot of heat in this scent, combined with something peppery- but it smells more like a red pepper than a pink. The red musk comes in during the drydown and amps quite furiously, it smells like a very peppery, sharp gingery, dry red musk, tinge of sweetness from the honey, but nothing I can write more about. It’s less honeyed than Bright Red Dildo or Infernal Lover.

Drydown: I never get much of the vanilla, at least not in the way I usually enjoy it,

The florals come out more during the drydown but they are distinctly masculine when combined with the leather- even though now it is a sweeter leather with some of the ‘new’ chemical smell burnt off. There is definitely a woodsy note I can detect but it smells more like a hardwood than a sandalwood to me.

TL;DR: Peppery red musk, sweet chemical leather, and smoky woodsy cologne.

My nose thinks VILF is cherry for a brief moment when it's wet, then it morphs to leather. At this stage it kind of reminds me of Haute Macabre and As Above. The leather is really strong at first and gradually softens, as I start smelling some vanilla coming in to calm it down.

At about the half-hour mark, I start to think I can smell a blend similar to Blood Kiss hanging out in the background behind the leather--I can smell that whole vanilla/honey/clove magic back there, but the leather is still kind of whomping on it.

At an hour, I really like it! Patchouli has joined the party. The leather is behaving, and the Blood Kiss-like thing is still going on in the background. The throw starts to get smokier.

In the later stages, the whole scent fades a fair amount; I can still smell it on my arm, but most of the throw is gone.

I like this, and it's definitely sexy, but I probably won't move the earth to locate more of it--I have other oils that fill the same niche in my collection. VILF sits at sort of an intersection between Blood Kiss, the Haute Macabre scents, and maybe Pleasures of the Imagination I, all of which I have.

Wet: Much lighter than I expected, based on the notes. I do get some honey (not surprising, I amp it) some spice, some musk. It's really interesting - much more of a skin scent than I anticipated. I thought this would punch me in the face. Instead it slaps me playfully.

Dry: My skin just eats this right up! I'm left with the vestiges of honey, musk and ginger. A bit smoky, a bit sweet, a bit spicy. Very light. Sexy. But just not enough throw on me. I don't think I would end up wearing it as a result.

Hhmm. Very sexy from the start. VERY peppery hot though - it's currently making me nervous whether it's got saffron in there, which makes me sick.

sligthly bitter, very red. Aaaaaaaaaand then, when dry, it's a copy of the robotic scarab on me, with a slighty more herby-reddish feel. It's lovely, I just don't know if I need it.

In the decant: There's a lot going on here. Honey, sandalwood, red musk, cedar, ginger, vanilla.

On my skin:

Wet, there's something that almost smells like almond on skin. As it dries, the balsam and cedar really amp up on me. There's enough sweetness, from the honey or the vanilla, to keep the notes from going sharp or acrid, but this is definitely woods-dominant right now.

Yeah... no. There's something weird about this blend on me. It smells like artificial sweetness and wood having a war. Like, instead of all the notes forming this complex layering of scent experience... on me, each VILF note chooses a side and has an all-out war with its enemies. Probably needs a home where VILF can be a lover and not a fighter.

I was lucky enough to receive a half decant of this in a circular swap and I understand why it is so highly sought after.  On me, it's lots of leather, spicy honey, patchouli and what I would describe as a very dark red musk.  Not a grapey stompy red musk; something more understated and closer to black musk.  The evergreen notes don't really emerge on me, and there's too much floral action for this to be an ideal blend for me, but it is undeniably sexy as hell, with good wear length on me.
